Thread: With these Concept Results, do we have any hope for the DEVS ability with the Space Expansion?

Couple of things:

1) They are doing with the space expansion EXACTLY what they did with the "droid invasion". Clam up until it's too late to listen to the players. It's gonna suck. It will only be combat and travelling. Nothing more interesting than that. And I bet the combat is gonna suck.

2) This game is now DOA. Ok...it's a little later than Arrival but it's dead now. My close to inside sources say that the game has serious design flaws that, unless addressed, no amount of "fixing" and balancing can overcome (most of you probably already see this). This game won't last more than a year from now. Look at what they have done so far: Free buddy key AND "come back and try us again" promos. They game isn't even a year old and they have done both of these within about a month of each other. And they claim that their subscription numbers aren't droping?

3) WoW is gonna kill this game. Why do I say that? Because I have heard that the Alpha of WoW is better than the current SWG. Think about that; the ALPHA of WoW is better than the CURRENT SWG.

Me, personally; I'm only sticking around right now because a buddy of mine are killing time before WoW comes out. He doesn't want to level in another game that he knows he is gonna bolt so we're just hanging out here until then. I have pulled up all my harvesters, houses, etc. I hardly log in anymore unless I know he is on so we can do something.

I used to destain posts like this (mine)but I cannot deny the truth anymore. And since there was other venting here. . .

Ha, ye...

The Devs probably lost their program for "Copy/Paste"

well. they are clearly working on the space expansion NOW, or else it wouldn't be on the schedule at all.

It's entirely likely that the reason the quality of development that is going into the existing professions is so poor is because they are devoting significant development resources to the space expansion, and have only a small staff of people working on existing game issues.

Sorry. But I disagree. The quality of development has gone to the crapper because the live teams sucks compared to the pre-release team. I actually had (have) respect for the original dev team but it is obvious that the live team stinks. You can actually trace it to when they announced "hand-offs" to the live team and Holo's "promotion".

Xandar,

/agree.

Blizzard has never failed to make a game that hasn't lasted more than a year on the shelf at full price. I like a lot of the old blizzard games. I still play Diablo II once in a while.

SOE should strongly take a look at the ideas and company goals of Blizzard and attempt to come to grasp.

Yet, perhaps all the bolsterous Devs on the SOE team are Blizzard rejects. They went to blizzard, showed their big head, and with a squeeze & plopping soundforcing their big-heads through the door, they were pushed out. Then, in turn, rising to the slowly upward travelling economy, they were recruited by SOE.

Well, if you didn't know this Blizzard lost most of their key-employees this year. They formed up under Bill Roper(from Blizzard) as a new production company known as: Flagshipstudios.

This is true and I have debated with my friends about the affect on Blizzard from this.

However, one point that I often tell them is that it's not just the developers but the managers. If the managers are willing to "wait until it's finished" to release the game then it doesn't matter what programmers you have. We all know that the managers pushed SWG out the door WAY before it's time. A big part of Blizzard's success is working ona product until it really is ready for release.

If they have the same managers still willing to do this then they can still release a quality product.

I don't think this game is dead, Seriously Sick maybe, but not dead. I for one will not be going to WoW although it looks nice its really not for me. I really like SWG in the fact that if I don't like what Im doing I can just drop some skill points and do something else, WoW and EQ have classes that don't change (speculation on WoW) once your a Wizard your always a Wizard and so on.

Yes, sick with a terminal illness of unoriginality. LOL

Don't get me wrong. I am having a lot of fun right now in the game, but it will lose its appeal quicker than not.

I plan on sending out a "Proposal of Guild Transfer" to a new game, if a new game with more promise comes out anyway.

but that sounds like exactly what I am talking about. you are saying that they shifted resources at some point and that everything went down hill from there. and that's exactly what I am saying is possible as well: the bulk of the resources gets shifted over to working on the upcoming content (i.e., the space expansion) and some, probably smaller, subset of the resources gets left behind to continue maintenance of the live content.

you appear to want to blame the team, but what I am saying is that the problemcould bethat the new team is smaller and is given less freedom from their management to make more radical changes to content.

The "Holocron Give-Away" promotion was done so they could keep avery large amount ofwould-be subscription cancellors on their customer list for a few extra months.

Everything is about marketing. Life, Love, Money....anything you can come up with, it revolves around a type of marketing. (not always the bestway, but in this world of today, that is how it is)

If you don't have a good product to start with, you make it sound good, then when people realize it isn't...you squeeze every bit of "make-it-up-as-you-go-along" as you can to keep the income rolling for as long as possible, even though you KNOW the fate of your marketed product.

OH, MY. 2 WHOLE PARAGRAPHS, what was i thinking. </sarcasm>

If this game was coming out in July, their marketing department would be in high gear making all sorts of promises they couldnt live up to. Screenshots would be released, feature promises made, Game Sites interviewing project lead and alpha/beta copies being looked at. You wouldnt be able to ignore it, it would be so pervasive. They need to get the buzz going, and the build up, so at launch people buy the game. That happens over months of marketting (if possible with all the negative reviews of SWG).

If they are lucky itll be xmas, but i doubt it.

Based upon some of the interviews that took place after the recent demos, I think we will all be dissappointed in the Space Expansion. What we will get will most likely be as follows:

1. There will be a "Vehicle Crafter" class added to the game. This class will make spaceships and some new vehicle types.
2. We will all be able to buy these ships from VCs. I'd bet that we will all be able to only have one in out datapad at a time.
3. Yep, you read that right, they will be stored in your datapad just like your droids and vehicles.
4. When you "generate" your spaceship, you will be transported to "space". This will be like being outside on a planet and will include random and static spawns. Think of it like walking around on another planet and you'll get what I'm talking about. Think of other planets like cities on this new planet.
5. When you are "in" your spaceship, it will become your avatar. Different ship types will have different combat capabilities and speeds.
6. When you get to another planet, you will store your spaceship and appear in the spaceport.

Doesn't this sound like the work of this dev team?
