Thread: DEs and DHs how they can live together.

My first response to a droid handler profession was, no way not fair the devs haven't fixed the DEs yet and they want to add another droid profession to fix the broken one.

I've thought about it for a few minutes and realized a droid handler profession isn't so bad solong as DEs can make the droids DHs are going to use. In other words DEs would be crafters with the same abillity to use level 10 pets like everyone else. DEswould get new schmatics for high end droids(up to the highest level of creature tameable)but would be unable to call them.DHs would be a pure fighting class. DHs would be able to make up to level 10 droids to get themselfs started after that DHs would need to buy thier high end droids from DEs. THis would create a nice symbiosis betwen DEs and DHs. This idea could also be applied to BEs and CHs also.

What a interesting character templet. Engineer IV to Droid Engineer and Droid Handler(just guessing a logical prerequisite for DH would be Engin IV).

Why is it a bad idea? Because some DEs like myself have not only mastered Artisan and DE, but also hold combat skills as well. I am a Pistoleer 0-2-1-1 and an elite profession like that deserves the ability to use combat droids that fit my abilities. If I have to start leveling up a DH profession just to use them, I not only have to give up Pistoleer, but maybe even certain Artisan skills as well.

Creating a DH profession is nothing more than SOE's plan to get more of us to buy more accounts, so we can actually use the droids we build. I hope this overwhelmingly negative reaction makes them think twice.

Or you could drop DE and pickup DH. If you don't want to use up the skill points to craft them then don't. I wish all the Bio Engineers would come into this forum and read these posts. They would be spouting flames.

Besides do we really want a prof completely relying on another prof? Like I said in another post I do not see a droideka sitting there while you say ...... good er boy? Which means that they have to completely rely on DE's.

And Daltek, I honestly do not think that anything has gotten this much of a negative response yet in this game

Almost all combat profession completely rely on weaponsmiths. What's wrong with Droid Handlers relying on Droid Engineers for their weapons?

True, Weaponsmiths service all combat profession. But with this DH plan the devs have set forth, we will only be able to service one profession.

I don't want to use UBER DROIDS, I don't even care if I can make droids I can't use, and I don't want to be a combat class. I just want to make droids. And if droids are useful to more than ONE profession (like say all of them) then I have more customers. And to me that is what being a crafter is all about.

YoWeaponsmiths provided MANY PROFESSIONS with weapons. We would provide for one, but that isn't even the main issue. The main issue is the fact that DEs know droids best, and not only that but droids will do what thier master says no matter what. We don't want DE only droids, we do not want any class to have specialized droids. We want droids the general public can use.

Monthigos, you consistently miss the point in every thread you've written in.

A) We're mad because Thunderheart has COMPLETELY misrepresented us and our suggestions by saying that we want a DH profession. The idea of a DH class has been shot down hundreds of times for months, yet today TH said it's exactly what we want. So much for "improved communication." I have defended TH for weeks against people badmouthing him, but after today, I wonder if I've been wrong in doing so. I hope I haven't been.

B) We are NOT asking that everyone be able to use every droid. Just because I could make a Droideka doesn't mean I should be able to use it. However, someone like a Master Marksman or Commando SHOULD. Certain guns require certification to use. Combat droids should be no different. Combat droid certification should be built into the EXISTING combat professions, not an entirely new tree.

C) NO ONE has come up with a plan to create an entirely new skill tree and fill it with Droid Handler-type skills. Why? Because it'd be lame. There is no "taming" skill involved here. Droids are programmed. It doesn't take four skill slots to teach a droid how to Transfer.

D) A certification system has been proposed and explained IN-DEPTH by our own Correspondent, yet it seems the devs are completely ignoring it. Not only has he created this system, but the majority of us agree that a cert system is the way to go.

E) A whole new class will bring a whole slew of its own bugs, both exclusive to the class and related to other in-game skills & professions. And we know how well bugs are being fixed when it comes to droids.

F) Creating a carbon copy of BE/CH is not only exactly what we have been against, but it lessens the significance of BE/CH in the game.

Dang it hillsayer lol, I was gonna change my mind until you said this! It does make me think though, how many players have you seen controlling pets at all, be it droids or creatures? None! Nobody really uses cl10 pets because they suck! I think they need to make them a little more powerfull.

I agree here. I have said on more than once. I want to make droid people will buy. If there is a DH class I want to make those droids too. I want to feel useful.I would love to sell droids to everybody and I think it can be done if all the bugs get worked out. There have always been great ideas floating around the DE boards and it looks like the devs are making progress.

Lets face it combat droids are a special case. I get the feeling everybody who plays SWG wants to see combat droids in the game. I know I do. The more I think about a DH profeesson the more I like it. It's a very simple solution to a big problem.

I don't se a problem with selling high level combat droids to one profession. Weaponsmiths do exactly that. Only a rifleman can use a rifle with any great effectiveness. True weaponsmiths get to make more than one kind of weapon for more than on kind of class. This is true for DEs also. Now not all are combat droids but DEs can make nedical droids for medics and personal crafting staions for other crafting professions.

As I stated earlier get all the bugs worked out and us DEs have a very large market in which to sell droids. Adding a pure combat class for DEs to supply with droids can only bring excitment to SWG and the droid engineering profession.

I have to agree with Salahsur here. In my opinion, the certifications idea just won't work, although all ideas are good if it gets a debate going. Please, though, keep the debate civil.

How about having a DH profession but also having the DE already qualified in the same skills (or some of)? Or change the DE Refinement line to Droid Handling? This is probably a bag of bollocks idea as well but its just a thought.

Well whatever way they go do us DE's ONE favor and make it so droids CANNOT be healed in any way.....That way the DH's would have to come see us DE's for new droids.

Heh, that thought occurred to me as well.

Going into it a bit deeper: If they can only come up with three skill trees that actually do anything when CRAFTING droids, how are they going to come up with four skill trees for spamming "a"?
