Droid Engineers live and breath droids. Who is the controller on battlebots? The creators. They know the droid inside and out and know what it can and can't do.
Adding a droid handler class is a bandaid fix that helps no one. Droid certs for other classes are a good idea. I can see how a few other classes would have insight into how some types of droids works.

Bulls---. Absolute crap.
A) I can list you thread after thread where DEs said the words "We don't want to be Droid Handlers, we're a *crafting* class." Polls on the subject by Droid Engineers, even. A cursory inspection of this forum perfectly justifies what Thunderheart understood. This community didn't want to handle droids, and since somebody had to, and certifications are a stupid and unbalancing idea, the only other choice was a new profession. Thunderheart didn't lie at all - he said exactly what the people on these boards have been saying for weeks.
B) Certifications for elite combat classes are unbalanced. What you're asking is to let every Master of every combat class pull out a powerful combat droid. Which completely changes the equation in PvP as well as PvE. Not only that, but it badly shafts the Creature Handlers, who've had to pay out skill points for an equivalent ability. The foundation for this game is that every ability has a corresponding price - well, we just found out the price for handling heavy combat droids.
C) Give me a few hours - I could easily come up with something good. 18 utility commands for droids is a lot easier than 18 utility commands for pets. A line for AI tactics, a line for movements, and two lines for specials - no big deal at all. A profession isn't hard to create the concept for at all...
D) Our Correspondent was thinking of benefitting Droid Engineers, not the whole game. Not to mention that our Correspondent is at best biased toward the form of imbalance present due to what was noted in item B.
E) Irrelevant and illogically connected. Droid Engineer has been low on the priority queue thus far and has seen no concentrated efforts at repair. There's every reason to believe that a development surge would correct ALL of the problems related to droid production and usage which presently exist. Past neglect is not proof that a corrected system will be flawed. Some new bugs may be encountered, but it is strongly probable that the resultant system will generate many fewer bugs than the alternatives presented thus far by this community.
F) Also illogical: competition is productive, not harmful. The monopoly situation presently held by the BE/CH camp can only improve if faced with competition from an emerging field. Indeed, this would probably act as an incentive for the engineers in either camp to strive to maximize marginal advantages, and highly reward quality producers from either side.
