As per the Test center notes, soon Structure maint will come out of your Bank Account directly.
This is bad for the game I feel in a lot of way,s but one that affects us directly is the Structure maint modules.

Yea... this whole structure issue is pretty nasty. On one side of it I know a large number of people that have been pissed about losing structures (sometimes not even there fault), but on the other side it does cause a lot of ghost towns, and clutter... I'd imagine if they jacked up the rates for drawing from bank to somewhere even higher than repair costs that might keep people from doing it actively, that and every time it draws from bank (so every hour) have it send out an email to remind you (I don't know about you but getting an hourly email or logging on to 15 emails about it would get more than a bit annoying to me).
Or, they could fix things on the maintenance droids end and let it add power, or check the status of a structure. That would give them more use at least.

I would think this hurts the architects more than us. At least we have a droid that every rebel who flys a starship will need at some point!

Not necessarily, if they want they can always use flight computers...

True, the already nearly useless maintenance droids will have no purpose at all if maintenance can be drawn directly from the bank. The only solution to make them useful again is for them to supply power and/or pick up resources from the hopper.

It seems this change is going to be hand-in-hand with the character purge change. So I think the concerns about clutter have already been addressed.
It will make structure maintenance modules unnecessary. It's not exactly a big seller tho. I don't expect my business will be significantly impacted.

I see it as a good thing. Sure, there will be ghost towns at first, but those characters are going to run out of money some time. At least this way, it doesn't happen on accident. Ultimately, if it makes the game better for all players, I think we should just suck it up and take one for the team.

I don't have a problem with structures staying while the owner has money in the bank, but according to the devs even after you run out of cash, the structure is still there, just "condemned"... essentially the only way a structure can ever dissapear now is if the owner deleats it, or of the owner is deleated...

I am both an Architect and a DE, and frankly this whole maintenence issue is a slap in the face to both professions - especially architects. It's bad enough that DEs have been saddled with broken and limited-use droids, not to mention a ridiculously small number of styles, but now they've taken away something that we've simply been trying to convince them to make work right! If they go live with this, I should hope they'll at least have the good sense to remove the maintmodules from the game, but I doubt it. Perhaps they should just nerf droids down to being as useless as C3P0so we can all get on with our lives in other professions.
It's been said in many other forums that this caters to the whining crowd that fails to pay maint and loses something ... I has happened to me, but I considered it a VERY costly lesson in responsibility. You know what the CSR told me? "Sorry" - I accepted it, so should everybody else. Btw, did everybody also see that they plan to give every n00b a vehicle now?(from the TC patch notes)Why not give them a house, pet, droid, composite armor and make them all jedi too - then they'd all be happy and the artisans professions would crumble.
So, soon we'll never have to worry about *gasp* maintaining our structures -"condemned" buildings will dot the landscape - cities will finally have those slums they've always wanted - and that recent spawn of amazingly high CD steel will be inaccessible because the field is full of defunct harvesters. This could be the best patch ever!

Right, I was just posting here about the downside ot the Droid part of it, however, it is bad for many reasons.
Archs lose what little resale market they had.
Now even if a house is out of money and so is the owner, the house will still stay there until it is deleted. It will never destroy itself as long as the character exists. This really hurts city planning and management.
Then our Structure Maint Module becomes useless.
I can see people being upset because they lost items from stuff blowing up. Yet at the same time, there is no limit to how much money you can put into your structures. Sure it is 100k at a time, but you can do that 500 times. If you are a forgetful person, keep a years worth of maint in your stuff. For 100% secure storage, use your bank.
The much better solution to this problem would be fixing or improving the games e-mail notification system of a damaged structure. Also add some type of visual effects so friends passing by could see it was damaged.
Also, from my understanding, the character purge that they are talking about to make this work right is not coming soon. So that means we will be stuck with condemed houses all around for a long time.

This is truly the death blow to these modules, but I didn't really see their value much in the first place. The reassignment bug breaking them and inability to do anything for the power as well made them pretty much unsellable, at least for me. I think I've sold maybe a half-dozen droids with Structure Maint. in the entire time they've been out.
