Thread: Opinion Request: Module Clusters
Hi all,
Need a general opinion here on something . . . with regards to module clusters. Do you generally use them in droids they are not intended for? (such as MSEs) If not, how strongly do you stick to your guns if a customer insists you make a such a droid (not necessarily a MSE) with "improper" clusters? Or, are you hoping that the next publish will make this a moot point? ![]()
Personally, I avoid using the clusters in a chassis they were not intended for. But that's just me, and I wondered what the general community stance was on it . . .
Thanks,
Voco Ackopogo
I don't use the socket cluster modules except in the droids that actually call for them, the R2 and R3. Otherwise there is really no reason to make an R3 when you could do the same with the two module slots in an MSE droid.
50 smugglers got banned this past week for exploiting a known slicing bug. Though the cluster module bug may not be a "game breaking exploit," it is being used intentionally and could get one banned. Just because it CAN be done doesn't make it OK. You CAN cheat at poker, but you WILL get thrown out of the casino.
I don't put any clusters in non-cluster spots (at least, I haven't since they finally clarified that they weren't supposed to go in normal module slots). If a customer asks me to do it, I say it can't be done, if they argue with me I tell them they can go find someone else to do it if they want (person almost always ends up buying a droid from me anyway). On a similar note, to get away from the whole MSE thing I just have a minimum price that all my droids are at. No matter how little you want in it or what kind of droid you want, it will never drop below my minimum price (MSE's, R4's, R5's, Treadwell's, and DZ70's are all at this minimum price to start, plus module prices).
In the immortal words of George Bush (on SNL).
Nah ganna do it.
Naaah gaaannnaaaa ddah it.
Until its fixed, im not adversed to do it, but that said, i rarely do or have a need to. I never use it for MSE or low end droids. Ill be pleased when its fixed.
I make some Beginner MSE droids for folks who can't afford more than the 600 credits or so that I sell them for -- but I always stick only L1 modules in them, or low-quality crafting modules, and never anything higher-level or clustery.
As a n00b, nothing beats walking into a droid shop and being able to afford something that helps you in your career. And if you have more money, you'll typically go for looks since you often care that other people not make fun of you crafting or healing with a Mouse.
There are around 50 smugglers who probably felt the same way.

Back when I was a young andinexperiencedl33t hax0r of droids, I found clever engineering ways to cram lots of modules into tiny droids. Now that I have read the boards and know that it is against Imperial policy, I don't advertise that I can do it.
Of course, I've seen the web page where a guy crammed four or five different video game consoles into a single PC case. Seems like a similar concept...

Quite honestly, after they have left it in the game for 7 months, let them ban me for using a "game-breaking" exploit. It'llat least give the rest ofmy DE brothers a good laugh. I continue playing on the pure basis of what the game can be rather than what it is, and if SOE feel inclined to make the decision for me, so be it, there are plenty of competitors for my monthy fee.
I've never seen anything stating NOT to do this.. can you point me to it? I don't know how you can avoid doing it really. If someone orders a MSE droid with a L6 inventory module, but you don't have resources to make it, but can do it with two L4 inventory modules, you obviously have to use a cluster to create the droid the customer ordered. I've never used the infinate cluster bug, but I have used clusters to make droids that customers have ordered when the resources required aren't available. Literally aren't available.
