Thread: ALL I WANT IS ONE COMBAT DROID

Why is this such a big issue, even granting DE 1 light 1 medium and 1 heavy combat droid at master, why is this such a big thing. Then allow every other proffession to use up to CL10 droids. Atm pure crafters are going to win both ways. If they scrap DC then it looks like combat droids are getting scrapped to. If they make DC a proffession then the pure crafters still win.

We may have won in getting rid of the DC proffession but we still lose out on combat droids, so we (those who want combat droids) lose every time.

The decision to scrap Droid Commander has already been made. TH announced that last night. He also said that he and the devs are having a big 11th-hour meeting today on whether combat droids will ever even see the light of day in SWG. The DE community at large pretty much has shot down the combat droid idea because no single way can be decided upon to impliment them into the game without a number of "game-breaking" side effects happening (a la the CH "pet wars" syndrome, for example). What's basically happened is that since no one can agree upon or make up their minds over what exactly they want for the future of DE and combat droids...nothing is going to be done anytime soon.

TH mentioned last night that the alternative to adding combat droids will be to add new utility droids and revamp existing droids with a wider range of uses and inherent functions. Also, the combat modules will still go live...assuming you want a CL 10 R2 unit with a laser cannon in its chassis or a Threepio droid carrying a scout blaster. At this point, these are going to be your combat droid choices until some sort of compromise can be reached over exactly WHO gets combat droids and HOW they get used.

All we want is a droideka and the other droids to be more useful (and that thing I talked about in my topic would be really cool too) but give us the droideka and we'll be perfectly happy. Who doesn't want a droideka!?

Just a quick clarification on this... Holocron on 07-21-03 practically assured the DE community that a Certification system for combat droids would eventually be put in place.

It's the current SOE development team that is "not agreeing" on what should or shouldn't be done, and they're not upholding their agreements made back in July. Holocron told DE's and the community what was going to happen; they're now backtracking on that promise.

I have to remind people of this...

Yeah all I've ever wanted was a Droideka rolling by my side as I tend to the harvesters. Nothing "uber". Just a nice perk for us Master DEs who have seen a Droideka out in the wild and dreamed of making one. Thats all I've wanted in terms of combat droids.

But thats always just been a fantasy of mine, I'd much rather see our long list of bugs fixed first.

Gotta agree here. Since the Devs have rejected the "Certs for all/Droids for all" plan we all wanted, and we rejected the DH/DC plan they wanted, they won't be implementing high end combat droids. What we probably have to look forward to is concentration on more bug fixes and additional modules (beats a poke in the eye) and maybe some new CL10 chasis. This is NOT a bad thing. Not what we were looking for initially but not the debbil either.

Something that needs to be added is additional combat capability for DEs themselves, certainly not to the level of CHs (what is that, Godzilla following you around?)but perhaps a CL15 and CL20 chasis to be used as a testing ground for any future combat capabilities. There's absolutely NO need to reject combat capability. It doesn't turn us into CHs. Having the ability to use a combat droid does not force a pure crafter into combat. It's ridiculous how vehement some people are in rejecting additional combat models for use by DEs.

The reason many of us don't like the idea of this is that it diminishes the crafting capability of the profession. You cannot give a profession combat skills at no cost (I say no cost in the expectation that we get more utility modules as they've said their working on, making us just as good of a crafting profession as any others). If we get combat capabilities does that mean that chef does as well? Or how about tailors? I'd say if you want to use a profession as testing grounds for combat droids give them to squad leader, it makes the most sense, they've already got combat skills, and they are worse off than we are.

I'll 5 star you Jenden, the 1 star weenie can piss off. Most people clamoring for droideka (god I'm sick of seeing that word) are those that don't care about anybody else or how the game as a whole works, as long as they get whatever they want. They were probably CHs who are pissed that they can't have a datapad full of graul maulers that they can pull out by the pair and are nearly indestructible.

I'm waiting to hear how a new combat droid for my own use diminishes my crafting capability. Will I get more crit fails with such a droid in my datapad? Will some of my schematics disappear? By the way the new foods on TC for Chefs are being touted as great for combat professions, so while they don't get the ability to attack themselves, they now make foods that help them (and anyone else who buys them) in combat. We have a weak profession. It must be strengthened on all fronts, not only in debugging and utility addition but in it's own abiltity to go afield. Add a little fun factor here. Crafting in the shop only goes so far. You can limit yourself if you like, but why demand that all other DEs do as you do?

The devs would be doing the limiting, to their mind adding combat droid usage to the Droid engineers would turn us into a combat support class, as as they consider all the classes to be balanced now, it would mean that to maintain this balance they would have to increase the costs of Droid Engineer (WHich they couldn't do) or remove something else rom DE

To the few who saw the light of reason I am sad that the DH profession has been wiped from the slate.

To all DE i am very happy your profession is getting fixed. This was one of the better arguments presented in all this mayhem. How can you create a new profession without first fixing its support profession? Well it seems they will and i am elated for you.

To those DE still making racket for Combat Droid i want to still approach this from the Dev/Blance issue and warn that a CL25 droid in the DE tree with no combat requirements will eventually mean you have BE's running around with more pets. If you hold on to this dream of more droids over pets, then you destroy it by opening the opportuniy for more pets in the long run. Most current CL25 BE pets can take a pet of double that value from the wild. Being a BE with a 25 pet could replace CH just as easily.

What i would ask for if i were DE at this moment are uses for BLL. Such as (but not limited to) BLL adding better values to crafting within the DE profession. It is apparently meant to be a tool, if nothing else i expect it to become more of a factor in say Spacecraft building. For instance, BLL will be the only possible crafting stations for building space craft. They are large and require way too much heavy lifting for a person to do on their own. I realize this suggestion is long term for BLL but i believe it opens a market for the DE to sell their BLL's.

Youve somehow made TH and the Dev team fold. Something my own community could not do when they got nerfed. I take my hat off to you for that feat. But now get what you really asked for in the process and forget combat droids for the moment. Take what they are willing to give you. Focus on the utility modules and the uselessness of certain droids. Ask for the mid bar on droids to represent power levels evn if those power levels are equal a whole crate of batteries, it atleast is some fair representation of the droids power.

This time of turmoil created a rift in the community in some ways, it made it stronger in others. This strength can be used correctly if you are mindful of the power. Yeah i guess im really saying use the force. But right now the force is strong in you if you dont give in to greed and hate.

Yep, that's pretty much how I see it working. Can't increase costs/requirements because its already an established profession, they won't take peoples skills away from them and they can't do a grandfather clause deal. They'd either end up taking something out of the profession (some of our utility modules or something) or, depending on how much they were planning on adding, scrap some of the changes they'll make down the road for utility and non-combat droids.
