Thread: Is there a naming issue with probots now?
I have a feeling that I've tried this too. I'm not sure it would be counted as a bug (as far as I can tell it's always been the same). Once a droid has been named, it cannot be renamed. At least thats the way it's always been for me - I just assumed thats the way it was supposed to be ![]()
If I need to demo anything I never name the droid, it makes it a little tricky to demo but it does mean that the customer can at least name it themselves...

What was the name? It might not have been allowed by the filter.
I tried it with the name the customer wanted (can't remember that now), a single character and also with 'jim'. It didn't change the existing name of the bot.

Not true. I've renamed droids dozens of times.
Some more likely reasons the droid could not be named:
some names will fail the name filter, and you won't get any indication that the name is being rejected. For example, you can't name a droid Doc. but Dok is accepted. strange but true.
some names are too long, or to be more precise some command strings are too long. If you're not seeing the '!' over the droid's head, then it means the name you are trying to teach it is too long. Use single letter commands to follow the droid's name to mitigate this because the length cap appears to include the command that suffixs the name.

also: did you happen to see how the customer was naming the droid? I had one customer who had trouble naming his droid. It took him 40 minutes to get it right. First, instead of training 4 seperate commands, he kept training the same command over and over and over again. Then started complaining that the droid couldn't be named. Then I discovered he was trying to name his droid R2-D2. Then he was trying to give it a name that consisted of multiple words with no hyphens between them. And it went on and on. Finally he did it right.Yes I watched him program the exact same spelling over 4 different commands. I also tried it myself, can anyone tell me why 'Jim' would be rejected. I wasn't aware of Jedi Jim within the Star Wars Universe, or maybe he's going to be introduced in Episode 3.
I was under the impression that if the name is taken, it also will be rejected without any indication. The true test is to name it something you know cannot be taken, and see if that works. Don't just keep trying one name. You can even try aghfvkdisbx and see if that works.

If any of my customers have trouble naming their droid, I always have them start over and try "fred". Then if it still doesn't name, then I know it's battery power, or they are doing something wrong. Once they get "fred" to stick, then they have a much easier time trying out whatever odd-ball name they really want.Plus, I have ready-made in-game emails to forward to new customers. The emails cover different topics for them about droid operation, naming, commands, etc. These are always appreciated and probably even helpful to those who read them.
Would you mind posting those? I have been thinking of doing this, but don't know what i should or shouldn't include.
