Thread: Droid Report: Info on the Color-customization on Droid Chassis 'situation'
Let me state the problem first, just so we are all on the same page:
Droid chassis (LE Repair, R2, Probot, etc.) used to have a color-customization step right when you'd actually make the item (before Publish 7). This allowed DEs to create 'furniture'/display droids (in custom colors) for their clients. These would not function as regular droids...they were only something you could drop in your house for show.
Publish 8 will include a new 'display model'-like option for building ALL droids (not just the versions we had before).
As part of the work for getting to this feature for Publish 8, the color customization step got removed (since, I'm guessing, it will work differently down the line...and had to go).
So...we're unfortunately in a tight spot.
They have removed this step as part of getting to the new feature coming in Publish 8. But, that is some unknown amount of time in the future. It is not, I repeat, not a "bug".
For now (as best as I'm currently aware), this step will not be getting added back into chassis crafting. This means that you will not have the ability to custom-color chassis that are sold as 'furniture' again (until Publish 8 is released).
This is gonna hurt (it hurts me pretty good, as 'furnishings' was a good size of my business) but after having had it explained to me, it doesn't make sense to force them to backtrack on this. It's yucky we got stuck where we did with this...but there it is....
So, this isn't a "bug" as much as it is a step on the way to the new feature that had been requested.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings on this one, all. Obviously, I wish it were better news.

Respectfully,
If this is in the interest of making things better then SO BE IT!
I'm an engineer, not a sculptor, anyway. ![]()

Yup...it's a step to where we wanted to get with this feature. So, it's one of those things that will 'sting' for awhile but will be for a better cause when it's all said and done.

Respectfully,
So they're removing our ability to provide a low-cost display item for people's homes?
Gee, thanks. I think. 90% of the display chassis that I sell have been customized with the customer's desired color... now I'm going to have to tell them that they have to take the default color or else buy a full droid to use as furniture.
A warning ahead of time seems like it might have been wise. This is EXACTLY the kind of miscommunication (or lack of communication) that upsets us so much. Yes, it will be nice to be able to drop all of our droids and have them displayable at some unknown point in the future, but we should have been warned about this nerf ahead of time.

Have they said without a question or a doubt future CHASSIS will be customizable?
Its not a big deal (ok it is) as long as we get the ability back in 8.
I don't have a "without a doubt" statement. However, the Devs know that this type of market/product is big for us, so I suspect (99.999756%) that we will have the ability to color these 'display' model droids.
I'm not sure how this will work/go yet, but...
I suspect that when the new "display" deed type is made/dropped that anyone will be able to color it using a droid customization tool (just like to do for 'regular' droids).
This means that you can have that display model and change it from red to blue to green at your whim...and never even have to pick it up or move it.
But...................................................this is a guess only.

For now...yes. It's just part of the procession of getting to where we all want to be (with full 'display' model droids that are customizable).

Yup, basically. However, let them know this is a temporary situation that will go away when Publish 8 hits.

Yes...I agree. Since I came in after the fact, I didn't have a chance to prepare everyone on this. For stuff like this (down the line), I'll be getting clearance to tell you anything/everything I can.......as soon as I can.

Not sure about that. They are basically making the deed look like the droid, but it will still be a deed. Woukd the tools work on a deed?
I assume it will be like the BE pets, in that you can drop them for display before you tame them.
I don't suppose there would be too much difference between crafting a chassis and a droid for display since you could just use a non-advanced model, which might even be cheaper in some cases.

We never asked for that, simply that we could create chassi for those droids that didn't have them (the R5, Power Droid, and Treadwell). Yet another case of giving us what we supposedly want by taking away one of the few valuable things we had. It is honestly getting so sad it's almost funny at this point.
So where are we now? Droids that had their one true asset, armor, taken away, and now the one thing that kept many DE's afloat was making chassis as furnature.
It's not even leading someplace that "we all want to be".
They have removed this feature from the game, and now people will only be able to buy deeds.
Taking away what some see as an essential function (making furniture) to give us some peripheral luxury (displaying droid deeds) is shooting us in the foot and asking us to be positive about the new shoe they put on top of it.

So on top of apologizing for the mess this "Invasion" has brought, we can tell people, "Don't worry, you'll be able to pay me twice as much later to buy a full droid that you don't really need." That's reassuring.
Unless these droids actually have function (i.e. a deed with a medical module acts as a medical droid), this is a monumental waste of time to correct what was a minor concern in the first place, now asking us to swallow ANOTHER huge nerf in the process.

You mean for the few of us that might stick around after getting slapped, beaten, and the two things we had going for us (Probot Armor and Furnature Chassis) get snatched away, when they again decide they want to beat us down with something else - we will be told ahead of time so we can say, "Thank you?"
That's reassuring.
Look, I know they have put a lot of time into droids - but again, I'm wishing, with many other DE's, that they'd just left us alone in the first place.
I would have rather been broken than gimped, which is what we are now.
