Audio, they are giving the ablity to see all the droids. We just have to make a finished droid. If you dont put any Modules in the nonadavnced droid it the same requirements (for most) as the droid chasis.

I understand that is true component wise, but the addition of the chemical is going to make them more expensive in any case.

You'll have to pardon me for being upset, but I don't see why if this isn't even going in until Publish 8 they had to take one of the few things going for us out.

People LOVED our colored chassis and we could produce them quickly and cheaply. Even if they just added a frame for the Power Droid (the only droid I get asked for that doesn't have a chassis), we could have just been happy.

I fully understand the concept of a means to an end, but in this case - yes, the end is nice and all, but I don't feel it's worth a) not having it for a month or more, or b) taking away one of the few things a non-Master, and even Master, DE could do to make people very happy at the same time as making some credits.

Even if they needed to add this system, I do not understand why the old one had to go. Just leave it in for the chassis and make the droid deed ignore it. They are redoing the deed system anyway, so simply make it view a chassis as a chassis - colored or not.

I have a hard time believing it "had to go" totally; I think it may have been more the case of, "Well, they won't care, right?"

Audio, who still wishes we had just been left alone

Gee, thanks. I think. 90% of the display chassis that I sell have been customized with the customer's desired color... now I'm going to have to tell them that they have to take the default color or else buy a full droid to use as furniture.

A warning ahead of time seems like it might have been wise. This is EXACTLY the kind of miscommunication (or lack of communication) that upsets us so much. Yes, it will be nice to be able to drop all of our droids and have them displayable at some unknown point in the future, but we should have been warned about this nerf ahead of time.

You aren't losing anything, in the long run. A "Chassis" is the same as a full non-ADV version of the droid... Presumably, under the new post-Push 8 Scheme, you'll be able to craft a cheap version of a droid (a non-ADV droid with no modules), customize it, and give it to the customer. In the end, it will be exactly the same as it is now, except you'll be able to do it with ALL droid types.

Ah, another "can't make omelettes without breaking eggs" situation... I just wish SOE woudn't break the eggs a month before they're ready to make the omelette.

If this is a change that is needed in Publish 8, why are we getting hit with it in Publish 7?

I am a relatively new DE, having started just a little over a month ago, but it didn't take me much time reading through the forums to learn that building customized droid chassis was a good way to generate income. Don't the devs read these forums too? Don't they care that they are nerfing a popular function? Also, in my (admittedly limited) experience, customized chassis were the only reason that we have a droid customization rating at all. What else is it used for? Why do we even have it if we can't actually customize *anything* now?

Anyway, you can put me down as one more DE that would have askedfor this to be leftalone until they were actually able to replace it, instead of just remove it. Of course, there didn't seem to be an opportunity to express an opinion before they did it, and now it seems to be too late.

What I really want to know is: With these changes in preparation for Pub-8, when are we to see Pub-8??

2 weeks from now?

4 weeks?

2 months?

3... ?

I agree. This is aperfect example of a case where SOE has failed to communicate a fundamental and very important piece of information in a timely fashion. If it has to be, so be it. But that doesn't change the fact that silences on changes like this are exactly why the community is sometimes livid at SOE regarding this game.

The standard is clearly different for us, and I don't like it. If a change was made which made it so the entire concealment tree of the rifleman profession was going to be broken for a month, they would have told everyone up front. The degree to which this affects the DE profession is identical.

This is the sort of thing that belongs in the patch notes. This information is infinitely more valuable than the information about droids that is currently in the patch notes.

Two questions (forgive me for being a little suspicious):

1. Why does this change have to be implemented over the course of two patches?

2. What would be so bad about being able to customize chassis and deeds?

Are you sure they know that we sell decorative chassis?

I guess this explains why my answer about decorative droids wasn't added to the knowledge base. Maybe we should try to get patch information from CSRs in the future.

Okay...so...I know the deal on this now.

Let me state the problem first, just so we are all on the same page:

Droid chassis (LE Repair, R2, Probot, etc.) used to have a color-customization step right when you'd actually make the item (before Publish 7). This allowed DEs to create 'furniture'/display droids (in custom colors) for their clients. These would not function as regular droids...they were only something you could drop in your house for show.

Publish 8 will include a new 'display model'-like option for building ALL droids (not just the versions we had before).

As part of the work for getting to this feature for Publish 8, the color customization step got removed (since, I'm guessing, it will work differently down the line...and had to go).

So...we're unfortunately in a tight spot.

They have removed this step as part of getting to the new feature coming in Publish 8. But, that is some unknown amount of time in the future. It is not, I repeat, not a "bug".

For now (as best as I'm currently aware), this step will not be getting added back into chassis crafting. This means that you will not have the ability to custom-color chassis that are sold as 'furniture' again (until Publish 8 is released).

This is gonna hurt (it hurts me pretty good, as 'furnishings' was a good size of my business) but after having had it explained to me, it doesn't make sense to force them to backtrack on this. It's yucky we got stuck where we did with this...but there it is....

So, this isn't a "bug" as much as it is a step on the way to the new feature that had been requested.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings on this one, all. Obviously, I wish it were better news.

You think we'll ever be able to make colorized droids? Not using the customization kit which means repainting every week or so. But base colors. I'd like to color code my droids for sale by purpose, like Architect Droid gold/black, Weaponsmith Droid black/red, etc. I sell a line of Profession's Friend R4s with crafting, item storage and datapad (or, for the Medical Practitioner's Friend, med, crafting and item storage). It's nice to have a color go with each type of droid. Since I charge 7500 or less for these little guys, I actually sell a few.

One of the amazing things with this patch was the HAM experimentation. Now, with just about everything we make, experimentation only changes numbers when it's done on Quality. So, I made a Probot with a pair of lvl 6 armour mods in it. Got to the last step and decided to see if the HAM could be increased. Put 3 pts into my first thought: Durability. No change, as usual for any durability experimentation. So, OK, 3 pts into quality. No change. For completeness, I put 3 pts into the third category (Effectiveness, I think). Lo and behold, the HAM increased! Pretty non-intuitive if you ask me. Couldn't one of those little pop-ups that ocassionally appear when you put your cursor on an experimentation line (cf., Docs' adv BECs, artisans' bone armour) be included to the effectiveness line that said "HAM"? Lotta implementation inconsistencies with this group of developers.

I still love droids and will always be a DE on my crafter char. Droids are Star Wars. Droids are Sci Fi. I find it strange that the toughest fighters in a universe with star travel are the guys with fists, swords and animals. Anybody remember Raiders of the Lost Ark? Bad guy pulls out his huge scimitar, swirls it around preparing to attack. Indy pulls out six-shooter. Bang. End of fight.
