Document 3: Recruitment

Note:
For the purpose of clarification, "DEnet" (DENet) refers to each server-specific mailing list and server 'association' and is slightly different than the game-wide DEA association. When you see "DEA", we're talking about the association of DEs across ALL servers. When you see the term "DEnet", just remember that we're talking about the mailing list that runs on EACH server (i.e. Ahazi DEnet, Intrepid DEnet, etc.).

Recruiting has always been tricky for the DEnet and DEA. DEs tend to come and go and it's often hard to know how serious a DE might be with regard to actually utilizing the 'service' and helping it to thrive. To make matters worse, hologrinders appeared and started demanding access to the mineral spawn waypoints that we passed around (while not contributing themselves to our endeavor).

Now that the hologrinding is going to end, things should be returning to normal. As such, we think it would be a good time to start streamlining the initiation process. Devise a set of steps for admitting DEs into the 'ranks' (note: there are no "ranks" in the organization).

Here's our thoughts:

A good way of going about it would be to work in two parts. First, give them an /examine. If they have less than 10 or 15 badges (or have mastered less than 4 professions) then move on to step two.

Step two would be to send them a carefully worded questionaire. Something along the lines of...

Note: It's recommended that you have this info in your SWG "/notepad" feature and that you setup your cut/copy/paste commands. You will also want to have a ready-to-go email that has this info, so you can quickly send it off as needed.

"Hello! Sorry to bother but I'm currently doing a questionaire of droid engineers to help us put together a survey on the SWG DE profession forums. We're trying to mount a campaign to get more content for DEs, and currently need numbers on how large this profession is.

So if you could reply with the answers, it would be most helpful (for you and all other DEs, now and in the future).

1) What is your full character name?

2) What levels of Droid Engineer are you?

3) How long have you been a droid engineer? Are you planning to stay in it long?

4) What brought you to the profession? (Money, interest, holocron, etc.)

5) What do you think of the profession so far (be brief, please)?

Send something like that and you'll get all the information you need about them. Then, you can reveal your true purposes if you feel they are DEs who would benefit the DEA and benefit from it. (There have been several that I've not added to the lists because they were very well set already and/or unlikely to bring anything to the group, only take from it. Torr (or whatever his name was) is a great example.

No offense, Torr.

Also, for recruiting, create a thread on your galaxy forum, and in mail messages askthem to notify DEs that they see about the group.

The other really easy thing to do is make the list based on:

- who you train

- DEs that train you

- DEs you find when using the "Search" tool to look for any DE profession players (Ctrl+P, Search).

I've never found a PC trainer for DE and I've never seen a newbie DE who needed training from me.... :-)

Just use the handy dandy profession "Search" tool via Ctrl+P / Search.

You can select any profession players to search for and any specific titles. If any are found near you...you have a DE for the list.

That's what I did, early on...to get others on board sometimes.

Hey TK, I read the three documentations about the DEA/DEnet and would like to join up. I'm a master Artisan/Architect/DE on Shadowfire. I've already posted in the Shadowfire forums to see if a DEnet is up and running there. My ingame name is Gately,

Thanks TK, this is such a great idea.

Gately,

Excellent...thanks for the interest.

The DEA/DEnet isn't just a good idea...it's been around for some time, though not on all servers.

The best thing to do is work to build the list on your server and find out who will be the lead 'admin' of the list.

Soon, I would like to have DEA/DEnet admins in place on all servers. Then, Woodrow and I will work with the admins to coordinate larger DEA meetings. Anything that's local to a given server, stays on tha server (meetings, resource reports, etc.) and is run by that server's admin.

If you're able to find the lead DEnet person on Shadowfire (or any other for that matter), start letting me know ASAP. I've built a partial list but we need to find out who the key players will be on each server soon.

If any of you DO get the ball rolling on your server, please let me know the 'admin' that steps up ASAP.

Woodrow and I would like to get the list of each server's DEnet admin up and happening soon, so that we can start to coordinate larger events and DE initiatives.

I honestly don't know where I'm going with this. I've started to have a lot of fun in the game and ironically it has been when I don't have to craft any droids. I have somewhere in the range of 2000 droid components made right now, and about 350 droids on my vendor that will probably be my last run before I decide if DE gets dropped or not.

Just start building your DE player list like mad.

As soon as you can, you'll want to get a server DEnet meeting going. That's the best time to start figuring out who will admin and so on.

I want to get a 'chapter' up and running on each server, and geta current list stickied in these forums. Once they are up and running, it will be a lot easier to coordinate larger events (DEA meetings, etc.).

1) Build your list

2) Get an official DEnet admin

OH...so you really haven't put this into play yet...I get it now...lol.

Well, I am a guild leader, city mayor and Highly in-demand Droid Engineer. I do not see hardly any DE on my server. Many people come to me. The only DE I know are some in huge guilds. Most large guilds have at least 1 DE to fullfill that guild's Droid Requirements.

My point? Well if you are insinuating that I take part in administrating this...I would if I could but my fingers can only type so many WPM...lol. I could not keep up with that and continue what I do now. UGH...

Perhaps if I can get a newer DE to kind of take on this role it would work, but I don't really know any like I said...and all the people who have trained me have retired from the profession...sad, but true. The DEVS are pushing us all out of this role...they will mostly likely delete DE...haha, what would Star Wars be without Droids? UGH. Pretty sad & pathetic on the designer's and concept guys' part if you ask me. They brainstormed this game in the WRONG way.

"...live the movies..." the homepage says. Well, the movies had a hell of a lot more droids in them than this game. The movies WERE NOT fight fight fight fight fight fight...they were explore, learn, teach, fight, droids, question, deception, controversy, conspiracy... Fighting seems to be the only thing the concept guys focused on in this game. That is the only major interaction with the game there is. SAD...SAD...SAD I say.
