First off, and I stress this is the most important part of colouring droids...

No droid that was built BEFORE the latest big patch colours properly

The fact is, no R units build before the patch will keep the colours. Other droids that DO keep them (LE, Surgical, probot) that were built before the patch don't colour properly (the colour change cant be seen by everyone).

So, first step to colour a droid is to make sure it has been recently built within the past day.

I'm not sure if ALL droids can be coloured yet, but I have successfuly coloured Surgical, LE, probot, R2 and R3. Since the R2 and R3 worked, its a good bet all R's will.

The best way to know if an R series droid's paint will stick is:

If (before being painted) it changes colour every time it is called, the paint will stick

So, this is how you do it!

Sell your droid to your customer. Get them to tame it there and then, right infront of you. Get them to type /consent yourname. Once you have consent, set the FRAME colour first. Once the message "you have finished customisation droid" appears, set the TRIM colour. After the message has appeared again, tell the customer to store the droid, close datapad, open it again and call the droid. If the colour did not stick, don't panic! It just means you have got to try again. This can sometimes take several attempts before it sticks. So, repeat the process.. store, close datapad, open datapad, call .. paint.

If the paint sticks, its always a good measure to get the customer to store it and call it a couple more times just to make sure. Also, once a droid has been successfuly painted, it seems to keep all new paint jobs first time from then on ... so its easyier to repaint.

I have to say, today was easily the most fun I have ever had as a DE. I spent the entire day selling more droids than I have ever sold in over 2 months of being a DE... there are now lots of happy fully coloured R2 owners running around Bestine

the fact that droids sold before the patch won't hold, is not acceptable.

The fact that droids change colors randomly, is not acceptable.

The fact that you had to go through all of these steps, and even twice if the first time does not hold, is not acceptable.

I'll color droids, don't get me wrong, but these issues, and more,need fixed.

does that mean I'm supposed to chuck hundreds of thousands of droids from my vendor in the dumpster ?

This seems to be comon practice for SOE... changes are not always retroactive.

My old customers are going to freak out cause they were hoping to color there droids. Now they are going to have to buy new droids and I can't sell them for the same price. What can I do? Cut the price in half? I wish we can hold more droids and take trade-ins.. Oh well, at least they got it to work anyways. I did color my Probot last night and it stucked, It is still red now. Do you think people can see it after this last hot fix? I gotta see.

Also, Do you know if our Probot armor is back to normal?..

Just my results here.....

I have had no problem customizing my old droids - including a prenerf probot. I didn't build any new ones because of the untamable bug so those were all I had to work with. I colored them, stored them and they held their colors - even after logging on the next day. The droids I tried were: a probot, 2 binary load lifters (not that I am madman DE, just let my kid build one and took the only oneI have ever sold back in an exchange deal 'cause of its uselessness), and an r4 and an r3. Also checked to see if a friend could see the changes and he could.

Locked up a second time tonight so I thoughtI might as well makea correction now... BeforeI locked,I was playin around with the customize tool on my old bots again. R4 and R3 would not hold color through storage again, maybeI was hallucinating last night when I though they were. However, the older probot seems to be working okas well as the BLL.

Well, long story short is I wasn't able to make it stick on my previous R2 advanced, but it did on one I made today... all the parts except the WDG station were premade- including the chassis. I hope they find a way to make it stick to premade droids, though.

I know from experience it sticks to premade repair droids, probots, and DZ70's... it seems that its the droids requiring two colors that it didn't stick to.

No offense, but I'm actually hoping against premade droids having their colors stick. I've already sold 3 droids to previous customers that already owned the same droid, that they had bought from me before. They wanted a new droid, just so that they could get it colored. I already have a few more orders for 'replacement' droids. Yes, there will be people that will gripe about having to buy a new droid, so that it can be colored, but in the end they will end up buying the new droid, so that it can be colored.

Its not like I'm out to make more money, since I have what are typically 'lower end prices', when compared to the prices that I have seen on the DE forum. I sell most my my Droids for 15k. Now that we can color most of the droids, I will have a lot of return business, over someone that charges twice what I do. People will be willing to come back to me to buy a new droid, just so they can get it colored. This is a great oppurtunuty for many a DE to get that return business that they have been asking for.

If this is correct, what about those of us that have Vendors stocked with 100+ Droid Deeds before this large patch? To me this is not acceptable. They add something like this, should not make it almost impossible to use, and only on droids that were created after this patch.

Yes it does indeed work - but I wouldn't ask the customer to take the droid in/out as many times as you suggest. The customization doesn't last very long to start with - I think that's a huge problem.

It takes enough stuff to make a customization kit (mostly the control unit is a bitch, for those who have to buy them) when the average person probably takes the droid out enough times to loose customization in a day or two. It's certainly not worth it to have to pay every couple of days to have it recolored.

AudioOrgana, storing and calling R-series droids isn't effecting the length of the colour at all. In fact since the patch I haven't seen a single "customisation has faded" message and neither have any of my customers.

The fact is, you have GOT to get them to call and store several times to make sure the paint has stuck. Besides, remember that when (And if) it DOES fade.. thats another chance for a DE to make a little more money ... every credit helps.
