Thread: How do YOU do YOUR crafting ?

Okay, so, I have this Droid Engineers Belt, the one with the inherant bonusues (schematic loot from one of the themeparks) and I can't really use it with the way I currently work.

It's a shoulderbelt, so it takes the place of my Backpack. A Backpack that contains my resources, and is usually full/almost full. My inventory is usually full of droid part crates. So, basically, I can't actually wear the droidsmith belt with my current setup.

I had thought of perhaps leaving most of my resources in my workshop.. But.. alas.. being a bit of a decorating freak, my house is already full (TAT PA hall, 250 items max). I've also got a full datapad of droids with storage, all full of various necessities.

So, I'm wondering.. is there some trick i'm missing out on ? And how do my fellow droid engineers get by ?

I'd really like to use this belt, but right now, it's just gathering dust in my bank vault.

That sucks that the belt takes up the slot of your bag.

As for me, well, I'm probably the worst DE out there. I don't really get into all of the complex stuff... I just gather some resources and craft basic droids for myself really... occassionally crafting a few to put up on the bazaar. Needless to say,I don't have nearly as many components and resources as you probably do, so I just keep them all in my main inventory and just craft from there. Just bust out my treadwell droid with a droid crafting station (Fusion-III), sit down with my crafting tool, and pump out whatever droid I'm in the mood for making.

I do all my crafting out of my backpack as well. I've got my inventory full of crates, and the rest of my inventory and most of my backpack full or resources. I like being able to build any droid on the spot, so obviously its got quite a bit of overhead.

I've got all my stuff in my backpack. At the moment that is the best way for me to do it. Most of my crafting is done around the starport waiting for a ship. Once I get into more complex crafting I'm sure I'll need the added space of my house to hold all of my resources and crates.

I'm lucky enough to have three buddies who have no interest in crafting. I use their lots which allows me a nice shop and storage facilities. I have seperate facilities for each craft in which to store component crates and resources, plus a generic bulk storage building. I'm easily distracted, so I only have those resources I need for whatever Im crafting at the moment. It keeps things....organized. Try to find some gun-bunny buddies or join a PA that may have people who aren't using their lots. It really helps and let you keep your lots free for harvesting.

The droidsmith toolbelt sucks.. Plain and simple. Unless you have +7 droid exp tapes in other clothing, don't even worry about trying to wear it, as it won't really give you any bonus' at all.

In fact, i've pretty much decided to get +20 or more experimentation bonus thru skill tapes only... having my backpack of resources (~40 resources + 3 chassis styles, + paint kits + batteries) and a backpack of components (~30-40 items, all factory crated droid parts) is faaar more important than that droidsmith toolbelt. Also, the extra +exp bonus is only good to recover from fails, and for crafting the repair/reconstruction kits, where can experiment on 2 different attributes.

I only know 1 DE that uses it, and he only uses it cuz he never leaves his shop! if they would make it a "belt" rather than a bandolier, i think we'd all be happier.

I have three houses, one of which is my showcase and sales shop. So it looks pretty and all that. My other two hold resources and mass-produced droids, and I keep most of my mass produced components in bags on a vendor in one of those houses. I also have eight factories which I occasionally use as storage, but for the most part I keep them vacant for making items.

Storing valuable items in a vendor like I'm doing is not the smartest thing, I know, because vendors sometimes lose things. But I just make sure I store things in there that I can afford to lose.

Ok. This is balanced between 3 accounts (mine, my wifes, and our shared). We live on Tat, so all small houses are 2 lots. One char is Master Merchant as well as Master DE / Master Artisan, and 4/3/0/4 in Architect. All chars have Admin on everything except vendors, of course.

2 medium houses, 4 small houses, 2 equip factories, 1 each structure / food / wearables factory, and whatever harvs we have lots left for. I also have accessof use on2 additional equip factories from a friend.

One medium house is the Mini-mall we run. 1 of the small houses contains nothing but resources for storage / use (wherewe do allour crafting) and includes a non-registered vendor for crates storage. While this may not seem that efficient, with my trusty Toolbox droid at my side (all 4 crafting, Item 6, Data 6) I can simply stand in the middle of the room, and get any resource I need from well organized bags and the vendor, then return them just as easily when I am done.

My regular inventory goes to misc items, and batches of resources waiting their turn to go into the factories when the lastrun is complete.

I can't live out of my pack for crafting. I keep several tools on me for building ANYTHING [all 4 types] that I have a schem for. This includesseveral (8 each) of W/D/G and Structure for those long timers so I don't have to stop and wait. Perhaps that's overkill, but with a finish hotbutton (macro that skips the experimenting and pumps out the finished product right from the resource select screen) I have managed to keep 7 of the 8 tools working at once at times. I keep them on me so I can keep them ready on a hotbutton bar, and they're always there just a keystroke away.

I also keep my food, drink, droid repair / reconstruction kits, batteries, etc all in there (yes, I use droids for that too but it's inconvenient I feel). Therefor, my pack is essential. I can't use the toolbelt

Advice: Unfortunately, a second account is the way many of us have gone to solve the lack of lots problem. If you lack the means and/or desire to get a second account, get a friend or guildie to spot you some lots. That'll help you with factories for one.If you trust them well enough to transfer ownership of the PA to them, that frees up several lots for harvs and possibly a small house for a workshop. Once you have lots freed up, your options open significantly.

Perhaps you may even want to concider downgrading to a Large or Medium house for your showroom. Alot of people tend to not like the medium for a purpose such as that, but I have made use of both the upstairs and the backroom *with vendors* and they all get plenty of traffic. It's just a matter of making sure you can direct people to them with signs and a couple of well worded vendor barks. My shop is locatedinHot Sands (up and coming town), on Tatooine at1760, -5090(Between Mos Eisley and Anchorhead) if you'd like to check it out and see more of what I'm talking about. Note when you get there, that I'm still 14 items under the 150 limit. It's all in how your arrange things.

Store your resources in the hopper of your Crafting Station, after about a day, your house shouldn't count those items. I used to have 3stations full of resources.

If this is still occuring, you need to fill out a /bug report on this one. This is not an intended use of the Crafting Station hopper. If I was you, I would remove what you have stored in the Input hopper. Storing resources in such a bugged manner leaves yourself open to losing all of the resources that you have stored.

Dang! Too bad that hopper idea is really a bug. Otherwise I would so do that!

I have only one account and probably wont get my 2nd slot open for a year or more(and I'm not even sure if that will give me another 10 lots.... anyways....)

I too am not happy with the Droid Bandolier as is.... My suggestion: Make it function like some of the bandoliers in Test Center that also act as packs do. I always thought belts and bandoliers should act as packs, giving players some clothing options to wearing a backpack all the time. Until that happens though....

I have two houses. A medium one, my showroom and "factory" decorated house (full 150 items) and a small one, my "workshop" for crafting.

I have taken to wearing the bandolier for the bonuses, and carry a pack of about 20-odd resources for most general crafting, and a satchel of my droid tools, survey tools, crafting food, droid batteries. I normally run around about 70% full. Which leaves just enough room to craft components and assemble several droids. When I get full, I have to go put them on my vendor to free up space to craft more.

In my workshop I have a couple ofcabinets almost full of resources that I can grab when needed. (this makes my workshop also full, 150 items (including some decorating)) My 2 factories remain 80 to 90% full of additional resources and components.

The most helpful thing are my4 droid inventories full of component crates. All my droids have different uses, but each one hasan item storage module. When I craft, I call each one (one at a time) and open it's inventory. Then store the droid and call the next... When done, I have my inventory window, plus 4 droid inventories all open and full of needed parts. I sure hope this isnt a bug that is ever fixed!!!!!

But I REALLY REALLY think the DE bandolier needs to act as a pack as well to be a real bonus and not a disadvantage. Wonder if it will ever happen.....

Ive made an overall observation.
The Droidsmith Toolset is worth using. It doesnt cost more than 500k (As opposed to the 1 million credits for a simple +1 tape sometimes)

I've found that Assembly almost matters more than Experimentation. You should also only experiment on modules where the quality matters most (Creature Harvest, Combat, etc) so having +12 experimentation all the time really means you spent a lot of money. The real reasons to experiment on anything else is to keep its quality up high enough to avoid critical failures. HAM can be experimented to max on 10 points.

So I figured if you kept a back with at least 11 experimentation, you should be able to do remedial tasks without hindering work. When you need to get good quality, drop the pack and go with the 12 points, if this means equipping a bandolier.

Ya know, this game seriously needs a "minimize window" button attached to things like inventory windows etc, so we can keep them up all the time without having to reopen them everytime we need them....
