Brilliant!

And do they require an extra module if they are for use in a JTL ship?

yes the must have a data module. they come in lvl 1-6 and this decides what lvl cert the astromech would be... lvl 1 data module would give a lvl 1 cert astromech ect...

They need a Droid Data Storage Module. There are 6 levels of these modules. Higher levels can hold more programs, but can only be used by higher level pilots. Check the Droid Engineering 101 sticky for more details.

Can someone tell me which components go into an Astromech Droid please. I am still only Novice but have had people asking for these. So I thought I would ask a Friendly MDE to make me up a schematic. Just dont want to sound like I dont know what I am talking about.

I know main part must be R series Chassis.... thats about all I know.

Cheers

Edit: Can't spell.

Please note: The Pilot Level requiredto use the AstroMech droid is not dependant on the level of the data storage module created, but its rating. The table looks like this -

(listed as: Pilot Level Required= Data Module level / FC Equivilant = Possible Ratings - this has been color coded to show overlap. The Pilot level required refers to the -/-/-/x branch)

NovicePilot= Data 1 / v1 = 1 2 3

Pilot Droid1 = Data 2 / v2 = 3 4 5

Pilot Droid2 = Data 3 / v3 = 5 6 7

Pilot Droid3 = Data 4 / v4 = 7 8 9

Pilot Droid4 = Data 5 / v5 = 9 10 11

Master Pilot = Data 6 / v6 = 11+

As you can see above, a Novice Pilotcan use a droid with a module rating of 1 and 2. But a Data 1 can also have a rating of 3, which bumps it up to a Pilot Droid1 rating.

In a nutshell, DON'T EXPERIMENT ON THE DATA MODULES! You don't want to craft for example, a Data2 and put it in a droid only to find out you experimented too high and it's now a Tier 3. I made that mistake with a series of factory runs at JTL's first release. Sucked bad.

As a lower tier DE, you can still make the equivilant of the higher rated modules by stacking the lower ones. You can find the exact stacking rules in the Droid Engineer 101 thread sticked at the top.

Lots of different coloured numbers = Confused

I will get my nose stuck in the 101 and see if I can understand it a bit better. Not going to build anything till I know what I am doing.

Thanks Guys. Very helpful as always

Basically, for a lvl 1 astromech, use a lvl 1 data module. Don't experiment and you'll be OK. It's only when you try to stack multiple low level modules to get a high rating that it gets complicated.

I've experimenting all mine, just carefully....

in a nutshell

module rating / 2 = astrolevel (always round up).

so make a level 1, experiment it to 2... get a v1 astro.... if i went to 3, i'd end up with a v2

If i want lvl 4 astromechs, i'll experiment that lvl 4 data modules to 8.

of course.. you could just not experiment, but /shrug... i like to experiment everything

Ok. You are allowed to throw pillows at me, but i need to ask how do you stack modules? Do you drag them in on top of one another in the crafting stage?

I did look through the 101 Droid Sticky but came up with a blank. There wasn't a 'How to...' unless I am being blind.

Thanks Chaps

Stacking simply refers to adding more than one module of the same type to one droid.

To expand a bit on that: If you put two unexperimented level 1 data storage modules into a droid the droid will have the same storage capacity as if you had used a level 2 data storage module. The storage from the two level 1s will 'stack' on top of each other to produce a larger storage rating. Some modules don't stack, like the structure maintenance modules. Put two level 1 structure maintenance modules into a droid and it will have exactly the same capabilities as if you'd used just one level 1 module. You add them just like normal. I don't know what level DE you are yet, but if you can make at least Advanced MSEs you'll see that there are two module slots in the droid. Stacking modules would just mean putting two modules of the same type into the droid, one in each slot, as opposed to putting two different modules into the two slots.

<offtopic>By the way, you may be interested to know that the newly spawned Crystallized Bicorbantium Steel on Lok is the best steel so far ever to appear on Infinity for certain droid modules like Auto-Repair modules. We should get even better eventually, but there's no knowing how soon.</offtopic>

At the moment I am only xxx1 DE mainly due to the fact that refuse to grind and not know what I am doing when I hit Master. So I made an R5 and put 1 Data Module in no problems. Do I understand it that I need a seperate slot for the other Module?
