Thread: Why is everyone so disgusted with Publish 7 ??

We all knew that publish 7 was going to be the low level combat droid pass with maybe a few bug fixes.

I am quite impressed with the new probot for being a CL 10 droid. It's a hella better than what we had before.

I am happy to get a talking combat droid again. I miss my old sarcastic Probot. Too bad he only had 25% resists.

I am happy the DZ70 is combat capable. A nice cheap combat droid to sell to the just starting crowd that will have more than 180 HAM.

I am happy that we FINALLY get to make and sell healing kits for the droids.

And finally I am happy that batteries will be worth thier cost now. Doubling the life of a battery is a great improvement.

Let's wait to really **edit** and moan about Publish 8 until we really know what is going into that one.

Did they change it so the BLL can take a combat module now ? If so, awesome! Alll the better. The BLL serves no purpose now, with a combat module at least it would be worth making them.

Why?

Droid Invasion

DROID INVASION

Frankly, I don't feel invaded.

Personally, only two of those changes effects me - the Probot enhancement and the droid stimpacks.

I think the issue for many is that this is called a "Droid Invasion", across the board, not "Droid Engineer Slight Enhancements". When people log in, for a month they are going to see "DROID INVASION!" in the launchpad, where very little is going change for them in terms of their game experience.

It's not that these slight improvements are not welcome, it's that they do not a Droid Invasion make in many people's eyes.

As to waiting until Publish 8 comes and then complaining, it makes much more sense to have discussions on it now, before they even get it finished - we have much more of a chance of getting positive results in the patch if we get those ideas across now instead of just sitting and complaining when it's already here which will do little good.

I think many of us had hoped that there would be bug fixes (TALKING DROIDS NEED NAMES TOO!) and issues addressed (module/frame combos that are busted) that we were told was to also be a part of the Droid Invasion. Those bugs that we were told didn't need to be brought up because they were already part of the "package" haven't arrived.

For DE's specificly, Publish 7 does mean a fair amount more work as well. I only generally make Probots (only do other models as special orders), and now instead of constructing nine components per bot I have to make 20 - and if the factory timer on combat modules stays as high as it is, I'll be spending probably three times as long doing factory runs of crates.

Add those things up : 1) Many of us know the public won't think there is much new for them here (many of them are under the false impression that Droidekas are moments away from being put in game), 2) We still have all the old bugs staring us in the face, and 3) Between the upped Probot costs and the huge increase in named resources and subcomponents for Stim packs, we just got a whole lot more work to do, while 1) and 2) are still in play.

1+2+3(1+2)=Unhappy DE's.

The Dev team really should open lines of communication as fully as possible at this point - silence and the last red-name words spoken on this board are just making people more upset, not less. We need to be told exactly what we can and cannot expect out of the DE profession so we can all make our personal decisions to stick with it or not.

No, BLL's are still not combat capable.

Would have been an invasion if we could build (toned down versions) of the droids on the new corvette dungeon.

Patch 7 addition are just mediocre and have no overall affect in the game.

For a patch that is touted to be a Droid Invasion which has set high EXPECTATIONS from the other professions, we get;

The Status Quo. You get the daily tells, you know what i mean by expectations.

Probots with a slight boost, but no more helpful in combat that its predecessors. And a few other droids that have less

ability, or at best equal, maybe.

Oh yeah, and the combat droids that people dont want to use are twice as hard to make. And we have to collect another 19 resources. And our brand new experimentation system is being nerfed before we've even seen it.

Also in TH's Patch 7/8 notes, the way he introduced the utility modules was with (paraphrasing) "these are ones we know are going to make it but there may be possibility of others", but after Runesabre spanking of the forum on Wednesday, it seems thats ALL we are getting, period.

4 New modules.

1) Entertainer Droid - Eye candy only with no mechanics enhancement

2) Barker Droid - Have no idea what it does, but everyone wants to nerf it anyway

3) Exploding Droid - Good to get frustration out for new DE's who are forced to make 1500 mice, but if the damage is useful it'll be nerfed, and if its not, it wont be desired. Talk about a free checker.

4) Covert Droid - Im not sure why they want this. I imagine if this guy pops up in battle he'll be one shotted away. So is it to help faction farming? Not sure the relevance of disabling a covert scanner.

Also there's a strong possibility we are losing a module in gaining the 4. The repair module. We get repair kits now. Nothing has been said what the repair droid will do, or whether it will exist. Why use a wound repair kit when you can have your buddy use a repair droid?

This hardly seems like the "focus is ours". Especially when you see 20 patch notes for an upcoming dungeon and 1 patch note for droids. I thought Drashk said that bug fixes are going to be part of our time. Have you seen anything suggesting our 40 bugs are getting fixed?

I think patch 7 should be renamed the Artisan Assault. Its like they have declared war on Crafters of every profession. Reduced effectiveness of experimentation, removed bags from vendors, and at some point we know they're going to cap merchants, a couple months ago I thought they said this month, but havent seen that whisper yet. Pretty much all thats needed to finalize screwing over the crafters.

So yeah, if this was the "Pikeman Advance" patch, i think we'd all be happy we're even being noticed. But with it being the "Droid Invasion" and supposedly giving us stuff to make our profession better, it leads to grand disappointment. Every month we've been told we're the focus. Instead they completely rewrite Bio-Engineer & Chef and turn them from horrible professions to really cool ones. Then it really supposedly is our turn and we get R2 w/ a chainsaw, exploding MSE, and Droids that blow smoke.

I like the things you like (and have listed) and that is all I like.

BUT

This is no DROID INVASION...the thing we have all been waiting Months and Months for..if anything its possible to call it a Droid Recon, but thats about it.

If you consider how many existing bugs are left un-addressed, and the very little else they have done, it just seems to me that in comparison to, for example, the Chef revamp, we have not had the promised amount of Dev Power focussed in our direction that we were lead to believe would be the case.

On top of that, we have Thunderheart pouring out negative vibes all over Publish 8's potential

In short, the whole thing is too little, and that is why I am less than pleased with Publish 7.

This was supposed to be the big DE focus publish, and when I read of all the dev effort that is being diverted into a new 'dungeon' (just as one example) I just wonder if Focus means the same to SOE as it does to me.

Thats just how I feel

Simple answer is that people aren't happy unless they are moaning about something. Even if you gave them everything they wanted, they would still find someone to whine about. Unfortunately, 90% of the DE population seems to be that way. Be like me and not care what others say and just have fun with whatever the devs do. Get angry when the break something that prevents crafting or some other catestrophic error, but not care about anything else.

"People just like to complain" is the easy way out of a discussion where you have no valid points.

If you both agree with this line of thinking you certainly haven't been paying much attention to what people have been saying.

It's great that you are completely happy with the DE profession, but to deny the very valid reasons people are not happy with the "droid invasion" is not how to go about it.

It's funny about people that can be happy with the situation try to silence those who are not - because if you were truly happy and didn't care in the first place you wouldn't be in this thread complaining.

I don't think people are disgusted by pub. 7 specificaly. Personally, I thought the changes listed for 7 were a good start, and that more would come, but I am neither surprised or disappointed that more wasn't added. I think people are finaly realizing that the devs really don't have a purpose for this profession outside of what we can already do, and that the devs don't find this troubling at all. TH's and Runsabre's typicaly cryptic comments about functionality kinda soured the idea that droids would ever fit in to the game world as the "helpers" they are thought to be. And they don't seem to be working with the community to find a place for us. So, people gripe. They're entitled. They pay the fee every month.

People who are not satisfied with this profession as it is right now are not happy. Rightly so. And, as the weeks go by, it becomes more and more obvious that they'll never be happy, because the changes coming with 7 and 8 will not change much of anything. And once 8 happens, that's it for us. The devs are moving on to other professions.
