Thread: to those DE's that want to be good at combat....you are wrong......

that would be VERY unfair....why should DE get a combat advantage....THERE IS NO OTHER CRAFTING PROF THAT GETS A COMBAT BONUS......why should you be able to make money from selling the droids you make AND be able to use more/better droids than every other prof?.....BE's don't get to have better/more creatures out than other profs, weaponsmiths don't get to use better weapons than other profs, armorsmiths don't get to use better armor than other profs....etc.etc........why should a crafting profession give someone an advantage in combat? i'm sorry, but i think that would totally unbalance the game.....i know i would become a DE, and so would most of the people i know....you would get to craft AND be good at combat just from that one prof...crafting professions are supposed to let you craft....and combat professions let you enjoy combat.....there are no combat professions that let you craft, and there aren't any crafting professions that enable you to be good at combat.....and it should stay this way.


I welcome other prospectives and arguments....but on this issue i don't really see how someone could persuade me to the other p.o.v......

thank you sooo much one-star ninja.....if you are going to one-star me then i guess you don't agree with what i'm saying....how about you engage in conversation and explain why you believe i am wrong.....?

just to be clear, i agree that the DE profession has been f'ed over, but a crafting profession should not be good at combat....that's why it's a crafting profession....not a combat profession..lol

I've never had any interest in DE becoming a combat profesion. It would un-balance the game and we would end up nerfed. Thats why, way back when, we told TH we had no interest in this. We wanted combat droids for all professions. Who really needs a good combat droid? The uber FOTM tka/fencer or whatever? No, those with limited combat skills that still need to go outside. Unfortunatly the folks at SOE can't figure out a way to make that possible, so we're stuck with the undesired alternatives.

1) Thanks for joing a day late and a dollar short


2) A crafter w/ combat abilities would be aHYBRID profession, which was what the proposal was for, and what the Devs had originally proposed to DE's. That fact is doesnt exist is part of the reason we lobbied for it, ie...it doesnt exist in game, per Runesabre's requirement, it was Unique. Either way, the Devs have said no to the concept last week.


3) If DE's had it their way, every profession would get combat droids worth having, preferably specialized for their profession.

You do realize how limited of a market we have right? We arn't like weaponsmiths and armorsmiths who has a product forEVERYONE. I believe the point is, if we can't have a wide market....we might as well be viable some other way.

yea, but even in our current state our crafting is probably at least 5 times better than smuggler, and smuggler combat is almost completely worthless without pistoleer.

wow....i sense alot of hostility, lol


I did no mean my post in a hostile way at all.....maybe i worded it bad......or maybe it is because i write lots of words in caps..and most people interpret this as yelling....i just do it to emphasize certain things...maybe i should use bold instead?


Anyways...I know that not ALL of you wanted this....I was just reading through the boards and read SOME of the DEs complaining about how weak they were with combat, and that DEs should be able to fight decently....and I thought it was absurd and wanted to put my opinion out there and get a conversation going on WHY they think the way they do......


and you have alot of people to sell too......I bought3 droids because i need more storage, and I wanted a droid that would allow me to craft advanced BE schematics while i was away from my house.


And if you think being a DE is hard.....try being a BE, not in the sense that the DE profession is better in any way, i think the opposite is true at this point in time, BUT to get good DNA BEs HAVE to go out in dangerous areas and get attacked and killed often since they suck at combat, we HAVE to be around strong aggro creatures to make good creatures, all you need are resources...you don't HAVE to be around dangerous creatures constantly to make what you make, so you don't really need to be good at combat.


and like i said above, i agree that the DE profession has been f'ed over, and I believe that they should make high end combat droids, but that the high end droids should either be useable by any elite combat profession, or there should be a Droid Handler proffession, the way to have this be different from CH is to have creatures be good at PVE...like they are right now, and have droids be good at pvp. (the way to do this is make droids have high damage and variable types of damage, and AP 1, 2 or 3, but much lower ham than creatures)


again....i'm not tring to be hostile....that wasn't my intention at all, and i'm sorry if i offended anyone....

I can give you one reason why DE's would want to have some combat capabilities added. Its like this: As far as I know, DE is the onlyelite crafting profession that (pretty much) requires the basic profession under it to be mastered. That is, you either have to master Artisan, or resign yourself to buying half the components for your droids. The other elite crafting professions generally onlyrequireone branch of the artisan tree filled up in order to play them effectively. This means that DE'sare using a higher percentage of our skill points juston being DE's. These are skill points that the other elite crafting professions can put into fighting skills of one sort or another. This is why DE's should get a bonus to their fighting skills. Either that, or the schematics that are created by MA's and used almost exclusively by DE's should be moved to the DE novice skill box, so we can drop MA, and Artisan trees 2 and 3... and put those skill points into a fighting profession.


The fact that we have to master Artisan in order to be effective DE's is a handicap that should be, but is not, compensated for. Adding fighting skills to DE would be an easy and effective way of compensating for it.

I have two accounts. My longest has Mastered Artisan, Armorsmith and DE and has the rest in Merchant. I went to a pure crafter when I started my second account. My second is now a Master Scout, Master Ranger, Master Rifleman, with the rest in Marksman.


I have droids for my alternate: An R3 crafting droid (for my scout/ranger stuff), 2 probots, and 2 MSE's....


I grouped with my probot to try to get some tougher missions and, would you believe, it actually LOWERED the mission difficulties offered to me. Not only that, but things that Con white, con yellow or red when I am grouped with my CL 10 droid or pet. Okay, so that didn't work....


I used my probot in combat. This is the medium armor, 40% resist probot with 851 HAM. Didn't last but a few seconds....


Now, I tried the new combat droids. Didn't see a difference.


I can't sell anything that isn't a medical or crafting droid to anyone but the lowest skill noob's, and they can't really afford much...


Now, I don't really think we should have combat droids. During this period of time in the SW Universe, combat droids weren't used. Probots had weapons for defensive reasons, they weren't hunters. But, if we are going to have them, we need to have ones that are worthwhile enough for people to actually use them. My droids are nothing more than storage space and crafting stations now, and quite frankly, I don't need any combat help...
