Correct me if I'm wrong (I may be!) but it is perfectly feasable for a character to be a Master BE/Master CH (with associated medical skills), pistol 4 and still leave 23 skill points free

One of my MAJOR beefs with the DE profession is the virtual necessity to have Master Artisan as well becuase of all the sub components such as EGP's, EMM,s, control units etc. If I knew I could rely on an MA to provide these I could free up some skill points and get SOME decent combat (or CH) abilities but I can't as the guild & player city I was invloved with collapsed.

As it is, at the moment I need MA, MDE & merchant skills just to sell the droids & advertise my vendor on the planetary map. I have rifle 3 & pistol 4 and no medical skills and thats about it. I even committed sacriledge & built myself a combat R3 just to help protect me on harv runs.

I do not know what reliance BE or CH have on other professions but my guess is not as reliant as MDE is on MA

If I wasn't so reliant on my Master Artisan skills I'd love to go CH but this game is getting so anti-droid/anti droid-engineer it's unbeleivable and the latest publish was a complete joke and the next doesn't look like (at this time anyway) getting any better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking to solo the genosian caves or anything but at least let me be less dependant on Master Artisan so I can at least TRY some other skills to see whether it's worth staying in the game at all...

/rant off

Sorry - had to get that out of my system!

This type of sentiment has been argued about many times on this board...

That is why I am in favor of a compromised approach to this issue that makes everyone happy by making higher level combat droid available to everyone, but provides a slight advantage to DEs.

One example would be the 2-tree DC proposals (example: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=77977) that allow almost every player who spends extraskill pointsto controlCL10+ combat droids to have them (and DEs to sell those droids to those people), and a DE droid advantage for DEs that want it(DEs would get to control an extra droid of any type, including combat droids).

I personally believe that would make everyone happy, but that is just me...

Well not that I disagree with you but you can retain Master Artisan, Master DE, Management I-IV, and almost master an elite combat profession (to the point of maybe 3/4/4/4). Maybe my math is wrong but I figured it before...Elite combat profession 92 SP, MA=77, DE=63, Management I-IV=20...total=252, so you would have to skimp somewhere. I dont think this is a bad template for the fun factor.

I dont think BE has much reliance on other professions, and CH only RELIES on BE for pet stims, but can also by pets from them. CH really doesnt even rely that heavily on Scout (its prereq) except for Creature Knowledge and Mask Scent, which is necessary to determine CL, stats, etc...

The problem with MAs is that so few just stay at MA and why would you. Many of them go on to elite crafting professions, and craft the MA components as they need them, if they need them at all. Therefore, anyone with MA is probably trying to market their higher end goods, say harvesters, and arent particularly interested in wasting factory time to craft tons of components for sale to the public. I have Master Artisan and as a DE I will only sell components when I cant use them in factories because of the serial number issue. So if I have 3 crates of GP modules left over with the same serial number it is really not going to produce the quantity of seekers or whatever I want so I sell them. So the only people that want those are the ones who dont need them in factories
