Thread: So was it worth it? Killing Droid Commander? =)
During this time period in the SW Universe, combat droids weren't used. In fact, they were illegal. And as cool as the attacks were, even as a Droid Commander, you would have never seen that power. You would have been no more powerful than a CH.
We don't need combat droids. You want a combat pet, become a CH.
Droids need to be A) Useful to all and B) Usable by all
Well Dhav, your a troll just by doing that post, welcome to the party Pal =)
You said Combat Droids are not used in this era, true, but I dont think Rancors walked around Coronet, or Jedi openly exposed their powers, or the Rebels controled the galaxyeither, so whats your point?
To be honest with you Ilike the idea of the Droid Commander. Sorry but I do. It's better than building for the sake of making fictional money, Heck if I wanted to make moneyI can go to work for that.
So flame on won't bother me after all this is just a game and were really just playingfor fun...

Droid Commander in the proposed 4-tree format WAS a bad idea. IMHO it made combat droids too inaccessable and just a carbon cutout of the CH profession. As you may notice, there are VERY few CHs these days, and there would probably be just as few people willing to spend a whole profession's worth of skill points to control combat droids that have less HAM than creatures andno status effect special moves.
This is why I think we should be pushing for a 2-tree mini-profession for DC (example: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=droid_engineer&message.id=77977) It avoids all the CH-cutout and other problems associated with the 4-tree idea and allows people to get cool combat droids for a reasonable skill point investment, as well as making devs happy because it requires people to spend skill points to acquire CL10+ combat droids.
The 2-tree ideas "split the baby" and provide a compromise solution that I think makes everyone happy...
you presuppose that droid commander was far enough along for us to have ever been in a position to kill it, and presuppose that the community here actually did kill it. neither is certain. I consider it likely that the developers wouldn't have been ready to finish DC by publish 8 even if the community here did support it. Afterall, in the end, they did say that adding another profession just wasn't a good idea at this time.
Also, look at the combat modules we have now. Is a single, experimental combat module that stacks really enough to build a DC profession around? I think not. If all we have is one combat module to work with then higher level combat droids would be pretty boring. The only difference between two combat droids of the same chassis would be the combat rating. Do you think they would have kept them from us if they had developed additional combat modules to enable more configurabillity in the combat options (like damage type, etc.)? I think not. But more combat modules and flexibility would be needed for anything like DC to be interesting to play. Chassis would not be enough.
I think the developers were no more ready to implement DC by publish 8 than this community was.
And with that thought, I'm glad its not implemented yet.
I dont think the Devs had much going on for DC. They seem to be putting a lot of effort into space, the jedi revamp, combat balance, and wookiee armor. Since DEs get so little attention it is reasonable to assume that whatever developers they have are working on those other things and not on DC. Honestly, if SOE had really spent money and time to develop a new profession do you think they would let it all hinge on the opinions of DEs and then just let it go. I dont imagine everyone at SOE just gets to sit around and think about what they should put into this game, they are probably working on a lot of other things not even related to SWG. My thinking is that DC was brought up in some Monday morning meeting, they hashed it out a bit on paper for probably 30 minutes or less and then brought the idea to the forums where it became the center of discussion for weeks to come.

Don't gloat. It's not becoming at all.
Besides, it's a dead issue.
Work for something positivefor the future publishes instead of bringing up past dead issues all the time, please.
