I haven't been able to name my droids for some time, am I missing something new, do I have to be in a certain spot now? Not sure I am doing anything different than how I always named them. What is the name restrictions on them.
Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing you have a 3PO, LE Repair or surgical droid. Any droids that 'talk' cannot be renamed anymore as far as I know. All the other droids are named the same as pets.

Why is it that the R-type droids can be renamed but the talking ones cannot? I have an LE Repair droid with combat model and want to give him a witty name!

Because the commands are given to them differently. If you notice you are programming your astromech type droids, but you have to actually talk to the other droids. My best guess on why this happens like this is that you used to be able to rename them, but people were also renaming faction petsas well (which you converse with almost identically) so the devs brought the hammer down and nerfed it all to hell. Not being able to name the talking droids as well was probably just a side effect of this.
Just a guess though.

some of this is out of date, but the instructions for naming still apply

According to J'vees Owner's Manual...
http://www.jveedroids.com/manual.html
"Remember. the names can not contain any numbers, is case sensitive, and can not have any punctuation except dashes and apostrophies."
Maybe that might help??

Yeah, while it's probably a good idea to have droid and pet names follow player naming rules, why can't we have numbers for our droids? I mean, I'm tired of seeing probots named "Spunky." I wanna see droids with letters and numbers alas EVE-9D9 or 4-LOM or C-3PO etc.

I had a customer come in today and buy on of my Det droids. It was an R3 but he was going to use it as an R2 Helper Unit. I made it the appropiate colors for him and transfered it back. He then tryed to name it RZ_Helper_Unit. It would not stick to that name. I have seen other droids around with names like "come_to_my_shop_on_tat" and stuff like that. Why would this name not stick? Was really cool he even had the newb clothes made and he was wearing them. Was gonna go up to the jedi acting like a total newb.
If someone can explain why the name wouldn't stick and some ideas of what to name it that would be great
Also can you rename a droid once it is named?
Thanks

I think it has something to do with Naming Protocols. Like, why you can not name your character Han Solo or Luke Skywalker. I think SOE has protect Names and that could be one of them. However, I do not have any supporting information to back that. Perhaps something that is in the coding with naming it that.
