I hope this helps in future reference when desciding on what kind of combat droids we'd want. So what kind of droids do we want?

I would suggest that DEs be able to build Droideka's at master level, but have them require lvl 4 shield generators and a master-weaponsmith component as well, after all, they we a match for jedi. Basic battle droids would be really nice with blaster rifles and such. The other combat droids are nice but are either huge or dont seem to fit. But anyway, what do you guys want to see? (I didnt include the IG since fiction-wise only 5 were made.)

I would like to see a small, spiderlike droid who could be used by certain professions like a grenade. Only that it would not be thrown, just dropped. Then it would attack, all by itself, the nearest enemy. Dosen't has to be much damage, just a better to hit chance. And the fact that the user couldn't select a specefic target would offset this advantage.
Preferable in stacks of five.

As I posted on the devs thread, Look in "The Essential Gude to Droids" Book. It has a lot of good info.

How about one that works?

Actually, I think the first post pretty much sums it up - the combat droids from the databank would rock.

I wouldn't mind seeing 2 different flavors, though:

Firsttype being a close combat sort - think Binary Load Lifter with an attitude. Goes right up on things and just sucks up damage, letting the player shoot from a distance. Give it better armor at each level (i.e. 1st is resists, but no Armor rating, second is resists, light armor, etc. Eventually resists + heavy armor - big damage sponge)

Second type being a sniper droid - low ham, but hellaciously powerful weaponry. Give it 200HAM and have the different AR/damage type by level. (First would be energy, ap 0, second would be heat, ap 1 and so on)

Then, put those capabilities intothe droids from the databank. Make droidekas the combo droids, and let them get shield generators bought off of armorsmiths! Give them a decent attack and decent HAM/armor, put them at master DE and require some kind of cert for them so the same thing that happened with the pre-nerf probot doesn't happen here (which is why the probots got nerfed to begin with -3300 HAM, 150 damage pets with huge armor? And anyone can have them?Oops)

Or, failing that, just give us all mind control powers, and make CH's ournew droid models. Yeah. I'd like apet that has creature handling abilities - give those guys an idea of what it's like to be completely screwed by an insane idea.

Those training droiuds were called "Training Remotes" and generally were used by the Jedi for lightsaber training. In JK2 they were powerups thatr performed a function like what you suggested for artisans.

As for other combat droids:

Battle Droid: As seen in Ep. 1 & 2. Should be huable. Can use any ranged weapon and theoretically various Commando weapons.

Super Battledroid: Has an arm mounted blaster and is smarter.

Droideka: Has shields and heavy firepower. Should be at Master DE.

Hailfire Droids: A large missile firing vehicle-like droid. Would cause Blast damage and be close to AT-ST's in power.

I think the Homing Spider Droids (with the precision laser beam) might be too strong for a player to use. It would be something w/ very high accuracy, a strong beam like attack, and heavy armor.

I also think there should be versatile differences and strict limits on the Combat Droids.

For instance, some Combat droids that do ranged, some that do melee.

Some which are good against buildings/vehicles (the AT-ST counts as a vehicle), and some that are better against creatures/people.

Some should be made and controlled by the DE only, such as the more "advanced" kind (Droideka and whatnot).

Some should be so advanced that to call and control, a DE must use a control station which inhibits their own movement. For instance, to call out that Hailfire missile droid, the DE will kneel on the ground, and look like they're controlling a box. Then, the DE is switched to a view as if they *were* the big rolling missile droid. Essentially, a droid that larger and electronically complex cannot just be commanded like a regular pet, it requires the DE's absolute attention, thus leaving the DE himself vulnerable. Naturally, the droid couldn't go far extremely far from the Control Panel, but far enough so that the DE isn't right behind it.

I took the advice from the original message at the top and started reading through the information about droids in relation to the movies. Here's the idea that has come to mind about how droids should be made.

First off, the probot wasn't even meant to be a 'combat droid' but instead was used in both science and military recon missions. It was 'sometimes' given a blaster to defend itself in case it entered a hostile environment but it's primary duty, above all else, was to gather the requested information that it was set out to collect, hence it's use of a built in 'self-destruct' function was to be utilized in case the information it was gathering be of a sensitive nature. The probot was used to locate the hidden rebel base on Hoth. The fact that the probot was sometimes given a blaster to defend itself with leads me to believe that the inherant functions of droids should be of a non-hostile nature and instead have a component add-on that will give it a weapon. As you get more blueprints in the skill tree you will be able to built a larger variety of droids that are capable of wielding bigger weapons.

MSE droids should be limited to data mods.

Surgical droids limited to medical mods.

Probe droids should be given a recon ability that allows it's user to view through it's own eyes (like the spell bind sight in everquest) and a rudimentary weapon.

The R-class droids should be more versatile and allowed data storage, item storage, crafting mods, and medical mods with the more advanced models given a very small weapon equivalent to the DZ70's attack.

Protocol droids should be allowed as a translation device, data storage, and low level medical mods.

Treadwell droids should be limited to crafting stations (multiple crafting mods) and repair capabilities.

Which eventually leaves no space for combat droids with the current abilities we have. So here I propose the following droids with the specific purpose of combat.

Battle droids have low armor and only a simple blaster that can do ok damage, no other mods allowed.

Destroyer Droids have a medium class armor, move fast and are capable of wielding a better weapon.

Super Battle Droids should have heavy armor but move slower, and have a high powered weapon.

This of course is just my opinion but I think it looks good...tear it up guys.

i still think the Droid Engineer Skilltree needs to be redesigned before new droids can be added, especially new combat droids.

Combat droids need their own branch in the skilltree!

I want to see a suicide droid. One that is pack with explosives. Runs into the con and blows it to hell. That would be really cool.

I would like to see Xim War-Robots (Source: Star Wars the Essential Guide to Droids) be available. Though a very old design they are remarkably resilient and impressively lethal.

It would be great if protocol droids or astromechs could be used to decode transmissions (like those from the monthly events). Not sure if that would foster more communication, but might be a cool added-function.

I too would also like to see more specialization in droids, in addition to more modules (weapon sockets for attack droids, for example).

Here is my list from Q's thread

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My List of wanted future Combat Droids:

The Basilisk War Droid: This would be easiestto add once mounts and vehicles are in, and although they have EU restrictions, theycould be made to be Rebel only as a ridable faction pet to counter AT-ST's you'd need to create a backstory of the Rebels finding a fleet of these or something along those lines.

SD-9 and 10's: They might have EU restrictions but it's not clear.

The X-1 Viper: Looks like ED-209.

The Fromm Tower Droid: They're known to be in the hands of Bounty Hunters so it would be reasonable for us to craft them.

E522 Assassin Droid: Assassin Droids were outlawed by the Empire but it is not known when, and besides it hasn't stopped massive cloning across the Galaxy.

Scarab Droids: ooo....Buggy...

Duelist Elite: Could be the start of a new line of gladatorial droids for us to build.

Mark X Executioner: Another Gladatorial droid that could also be used in combat.

S-ep1 Security: I love how they look.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, those are the ones I'd love to see.

One thing I would like to see given to Novice DE's is the "remote" droid. I can't find the technical name for it, but I think all of you know the remote Luke was solo'ing against with his father's lightsaber in Episode IV on the Millenium Falcon with Obiwan teaching him the ways of the Force.

I see this as a great device to help out melee classes or Artisans making trips to their harvesters; it hovers around them and helps with a couple extra shots. It would only act asa defensive only droid, only attacking if the controller was attacked. It would probably give it the same HAM as a current DZ70 (meaning easily destroyable) ...but extremely cheap to make (thinking about 50-100 credits). I would also want to at the very LEAST DOUBLE the HAM on the DZ70, since it's a melee droid.

If you want to take a look at what I mean, take a look at Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. I had no trouble finding these little droids amost everywhere and they really helped out when fighting Force sensitive enemies or when I was being swamped by a ton of stormtroopers.
