Thread: Combat Droid Types (Discuss!)
How about a new conecept fro droids....
I would like to see Droids as slow factorys to take with u.
-The FX-10 Medical Droid from Empire Strikes back
as a slow factory for Chemicals up to Complexity 10
-The COO-2180 Cooking Droid from the refugees ship in Episode 2
as a slow factory for Food up to Complexity 10
-Our LD Repair Droid or the lil PIT Droid from Episode 1
as a slow factory for Droid/Weapon parts up to Complexity 10
- A to be defined Droid yet
as a slow factory for Cloth parts ...
You get the idea..
Here some reference to not so known starwars droids...

To Be Honest. I'm not currently a Droid Engineer... Though I do plan on it for at least one of my alts.
With that being said.... I see no one has mentioned Assassin Droids? How bout it. ![]()
How about droid parts for the player. Like anikin and luke both had droid arms. People could be PART droid. I know its off the subject and i will humbly sacrifice myself to beg forgiveness.
I'm more into seeing more powerful weapon modules and not necessarily droids... add the rolling and walking combat droids from episode 1 and 2 and spread out weapon module skills.
The DE skill tree is broke in my opinion. There is but one real way to level up DE imo if you understand the skills gained from the tree. It goes something like this... a) must get adv prints at least to grind arm packs for exp, best if you go expert prints first for adv frames grind... b) now you gotta grind production to expert level for the socket clusters if you want to make R2s & 3s, and lastly c) you need adv construction after this due to the sheer demand for food droid crafting modules.
I knew one fellow who instead of the prints line started up production line until I spelled out the above to him. What a trooper this fellow was while doing production from Novice DE. His logic was sound... he figured everyone was doing prints, someone would need to do production. Well the poor guy doesn't have that much time to play and on top of that the time wasted grinding production from novice level... well I don't wish that on anyone past novice level if that. Going from novice to prints 1 was the longest grind of my DE experience so far. Bottom line, mix it up
Where's the droid that has a posture down attack?
What about the droid that stuns?
And where's the droid that runs faster than a player that's good for chasing someone?
I'm sure you guys are all very aware of the fact that Droidekas are already in the game on the planet Lok? They look quite cool too
I may be the only one... but I would like to mount a blaster on the head of an R5 unit for a combat variation.
A droid like IG-88 would also be nice... to say nothing of a training remote.
Of course it is possible that they are in the game under a name I dont recognize.
Just going to add a link quick. This lists droids already in the SWU, mostly combat capable droids and a couple of extra utility droids, as described in SWU materials.

Remove Droid PERMADEATH. add Droid DECAY. Combat droids should decay faster than utility droids, with armor ratings making a difference on the decay rates. Droids should need replacing eventually, not EVERY DAY!!!! Incap should take a chunk out of condition, not bank accounts.
I completely agree witht the idea of Droid Engineer Masters should have the upper hand with Combat droids. More advanced droids such as the Droideka and IG 88 SHOULD only be used by Masters of the craft, it makes logical sense.
But there should be more perks for being a master as well (as a gift for the terrible grind!) I am all for having multiple Standard Battle droids out at once, as seen in the movies(like NPC Factional pets), but for the everyday combatant, or crafter, 1 would be more then enoughand just overwhelm the unenlightened. A carefully planned Cert system could solve this problem..
Droids I would like to definetly see (at the least!!)would be...
-Battle Droids
-Super Battle Droids
-Droidekas
If we could be lucky enough to have working droids as above, and by working i mean good damage, armor, and HAM bars, what more could we really want?We really should not be too greedy, I do not want this to turn out into a mirror class of the CH! I want Master DEs to be elite, not the newbie hype of the week.
I think adding just Battle Droids and Droidekas would be nice. I was hopeing there would be a droid engineer only droid which could be Droidekas. Here is the thing with Battle Droids. In the movies Battle Droids has a Commanding droid. My suggestion is to Make a Commanding droid that the person would Call from his/her Datapad. Then you can make the Commanding droid pull and control the Battle droids from its Datapad. Nowif you understand this then you understand that the way these droids aresetup there is always going to be a delay in commanding the droids to attack orto stop giving you the reality of Battle droids in SW.
Doing this would allow 3 Battle Droids per Commanding droid. Now these droids should be around 5k ham and 180-200 damage. This would put them in par with most other classes and pets. You do have to limit who can get these some how and I think to use the Commanding droid you need to have an Elite profession and then to have all 3 Battle Droids you need to have Mastered an Elite profession. This would definately give something people can look forward to.
Droidekas are what everyone wants just as much as Jedi. I think most of the droid engineer profession started this class because of Droidekas. Making this a Droid Engineer only pet would boost the Droid Engineer class and help us retain and build up new Droid Engineers.
Well firstly I'd like to draw your attention to my thread "Why Droidika/Battle droids wont help"
Regarding IG88 droids.....
While I dont recall anyone mentioning the IG series specifically I have seen assasin droids come up a few times. Its widely established that assasin droids are banned during the reign or the empire, and although there were some assasin droid programs (the IG series being the most famous example) they are not going to be something that a humble DE is going to know how to make.
The IG program (project Phutdroid or something) is well established asthe only source of IG prototypes and source material lists that only 2 models were know to have survived (although where IG88 got the dummy chassis from is a mystery)., So the previous restriction on assasin droids notwithstanding making an IG droid is not going to be an option I suspect.
Where I suspect we have the most capability for 'assasin' droids though is through customisation as it may be far easier to subvert the programming of an existing droid to be an assasin than to build one form the ground up (I believe there was a 3PO droid 'converted' to an assasin droid in the source material somewhere - I believe he had a large X on his head)
What you have to bear in mind though is that an assasin droid is not really in keeping with the game - the only reason I suspect it keeps coming up is because they are generally thought of to be the most uber of combat droids (although this isnt necessarilly true) and what people are _really_ talking about is just a dedicated combat droid (IMO the probot _isnt_ a combat droid and would have been better off implimented as a remove survey droid)
However before I get a reputation as doom-monger and all round party pooper there are several example of 'law enforcement' and 'security' droids in the old Star Wars roleplay material in addition to those already listed which may well be within the abilities of the humble DE (I dont think the empire would let joe public citizen construct their own battledroids for obvious reasons - so we may not get them from a continuity point of view) and when we are in a position to look atnew droid content (if you read my other post you will see I believe we should get the current content fixed first) these may be suitable.
I will close however on another negative post. There seems to be alot of 'noise' regarding combat/battle droids compared to new types of non-combat droids. I dont know if this 'noise' comes from non-DE's just looking for an uber pet (which wont happen, look at the Probot for proof), from DE's looking for a reliable marketable product (I can sympathise and see your point) or from players just looking to satisfy the powergamer within (I disagree with this).
Dont get me wrong I do believe that the DE should have a decent combat droid to supply players with, but I'll be the first to call for balance (even if that means nerfing the CH pets) and continuity because combat is not the be all and end all of SWG.
