Thread: Needing DEs (all of you) opinions.
2) I consider this class fun for a few reasons: Primarily because it is the most "star-warsy" profession in the game. It also has a level of complexity in the crafting that is one of the highest in the game, IMHO. But also because I have been a DE for such a long time, I am known as an Old Timer on my server. And that gives me pride in what I do.

1) There is profit to be made in the DE profession, but not boatloads. You will mainly cater to the BH class, with occasional special orders from crafters. Compared to WS/AS, we are not very lucrative.

Arent you on the Ahazi server as well?
DE is my 4th crafting profession (architect for2 months, tailor for 2 years, BE for 1.5 years, DE for several months now).
Negatives:
1) Low revenue relative to other crafting professions. It's not terrible, you can still earn plenty, but especially with BH droids being broken, volume tends to be pretty low.
2) Little repeat business. A happy DE customer puts the droid you made in his datapad and uses it constantly, and tells his friends about you, but you may never actually see him again, or know that he's satisfied.
3) Bugs. 'nuff said
4) No experimentation. For the most part the quality of materials and experimentation don't matter, which takes a lot of the fun away (for me) and also makes it impossible to really distinguish yourself as a DE in terms of making better products.
Positives:
1. Little competition. There are few DE's so it's not difficult to "break into the biz".
2. High margins. Droids seem to sell for a very healthy margin in terms of the cpu on the materials used. Therefore you can buy rather than mine and still make a really good profit on each item you sell, and there is also plenty of room to discount and still be profitable.
3. Master Artisan stuff. Since DE needs master artisan (essentially), one of the big pluses is all the cool artisan stuff you can make on the side. Lots of really good food, vehicles, powerups, etc. The artisan stuff sells about as well as the droids do, lol.
4. Complexity and Customization. The complexity of DE makes it fun (for me). Tons and tons of components, lots of different configurations of different droids etc. Not near as complex or fun as the old bio-engineer crafting system (imo) but still fun. Would be a lot more fun if quality mattered, but oh well.

Well, I think I answered the "fun" question in my previous post. Sick in the head? Maybe. Gluttons for punishment? Definitely.

I have a "Rasal" toon on Ahazi; I just don't use it much.
Well, considering I've been in one gimped profession for a while (Creature Handler), I figured I'd get into another one too. ![]()
But it is alot of fun since you can customize all kinds of different droids to do all kinds of various tasks. And even if you're not making actual droids, you can sell the chassis' for decoration in homes and shops!
