So, I was thinking, why did others become a DE? For me, this was the biggest thing that attracted me to playing this game. I thought "Wow, the ability to craft and control droids in the Star Wars universe!!??? How cool is that!" Well even though our profession is not where it could or needs to be, I am still happy to craft droids especially with all the new features. The geek in me suggests that this is probably the best profession tailored to my personality in RL. Ive always been a tinkerer with electronics and computers. What possesed you to become a DE?

Up until I started the grind for DE, we had two Master DEs in our Guild and City already. One player had to leave the game due to real life needs, the other is in the process of dropping DE because he just doesn't have the time anymore.

I had been starting the grind to Tailor. My other toon is an entertainer and is a clothes horse, so I figured it would not only save me money, butI might be able to make some in the process. I wanted to do a crafting profession anyway and it seemed logical. As I started my grind, it became clear that there was going to be a rift between myself and the only other Tailor in town who seems to have been a tailor since the game started. I was worried about creating problems.

Not knowing about both the city DEs retiring, I continued on, until my guildleader suggested I might want to try DE because I would be able to fill a need in the city. So immediately I took up the grind to do DE and haven't looked back.

I have only been master since Monday April 26, and I have yet to set up a shop in our city, but DE is more than I had hoped for on many levels. #1, I'm going to fill a need of my guild/city which is great. I was also the city founding mayor for 5 months so I know all about giving to the city and guild. #2, I'll be able to make money with this despite the hard work. and #3...I mean HOW COOL IS THIS!?!?!?!

I feel like Chewbacca tinkering with C3PO trying to put his head on backwards (Dookiee is a Wookiee btw, my main Okie is human). I finally after all this time feel Star Warsy. Now, I'm certain that some day down the road, some other "Shiny New Thing" will come from the DEVs as a way to fix adifferentprofession and then DE will not be "the thing" anymore, but for now, this is so freakin cool. I love the technical side of making subcomponents to put into a droid module to put into a chassis to put into a finished droid.

Yes, it's time consuming, yes it's technically involved, yes it's resource intensive, but this is the most fun I have had since I first logged on in July last year hoping for some fun in the game. I'm still in the process of factory running modules and components. I can't wait till I factory run various droid chassis and then put up completed droids for sale on my vendors. This is going to be a blast!

Pretty much the same reasons as you. Droidsare Star Wars to me.

I wanted to try a crafting profession, and DE was the only one that itnerested me.

Why did I become a DE?

Well as the previous poster stated, "Starwars is Droids"

I always loved the idea of making and tinkering with droids. I made DE about 5 days after this server went live and played for months until it got repetitive. Now with the addition of the new content, DE is fun again.

I have, all my life, liked Mech's, Robots, things like RoboCop, Terminator, etc...

This is where I derived my likeness for Droid-type things. The day I started thsi game, I headed for Droid Engineer. Have had it ever since. Although, I took a long break from it when I realized there was nothing to be had. I sat at DE 0/0/2/2 for about 7 months while I persued Pistoleer, Scout & Marksman (yes, I was slow, but it was also very fun to take it slow and just enjoy the game). Then, following the announcement of the Droid Engineer reformat, I ground my way to master in December '03 and bought another account, creating my combat character (who is now Master Commando, Pistoleer, and Medic. Has been for about 3 months now, and having an awesome time. Commando ROXORS!

Well for the most part I agree with everyone else, Star Wars has always been droids to me. But also I've always had alot of respect for people who were able to actually build these things in RL. Well I've never had the technical ability in RL but at least in SWG I can play with my techno toys to my hearts content.

Hmmm, starwars IS droids but that didn't make me go for DE originally. When I got the game, I knew I wanted to be a chef ... yeah, okay, maybe I'm a bit obsessive about food but also I loved the fact that there was a great variety, I could choose food names, experiment on the results, etc. I stocked up our cantina with drinks named after guild members and just had fun with it.

Then came the chef revamp and food, well ... wow. It was useful, and you got to make choices (filling or nutrition, *ponder*) and look at stacking. I loved it.

Once I got a good stock of new food, whilst waiting for resources, I messed around with various other crafts. I threw some points into tailor, some into architect, and some into droid engineer. Of these, only DE intrigued me, as it gave some options for decision making (as opposed to Harvester is either BER 13 or it's not). When I realised it was getting a revamp not dissimular to chefs had, I threw away architect and tailor and finished it.

The revamp has done exactly what I've hoped for in terms of expanding the choices (John is novice scout and wants a combat droid with harvesting, what's the minimum harvest modules I can put in to match his harvesting whilst still keeping it as combat worthy as possible? Is John better off with the attack speed of the probot or the extra module of the R3? Does he expect it to tank?) and I'm absolutely loving it.

A lot of my food is now production lined and DE has a lot more scope for specialisation (i.e. making a special version for someones specific needs) than food does.

I'm sure that we will see an influx of new DEs same as we did Chefs, some of whom will be excellent but many will be looking for the "Droid Brandy" to get rich quick on.

My parents named me Machine'Zed. Could you see a Bio-engineer named Machine'Zed? Anyways I come from a long line of Droid Engineers, and it one of the few things I still cherishfrom my parents. Other than that I have disavowed any knowledge of my parents. I ran away after I turned 13, the kids would make fun of me for my name. When I turned 16 I joined the Empire, they saw me for my rank and for the droids I built them not by my name. They even helped me out financially for training in my pistol skills and resources for my Machines.

ooc:

Machine Zed is my nickname and it fits my persona....

Personal I made it up the artisan ladder to master. Then I thought about what I wanted to do next. I thought weapons and armor maby. Those didnt fit, and I droped both. then I though of droids. I didnt become a DE because it was the easiest one to do. I did it because it was hard. That and theres just something entertaining about having a little box following you around going "*briip* *berrr*, *briiip* *berrr*"

I figured some on would respond to that.

I do make odd sounds IRL too. Just ask my wife, she tells me to stop quite often. But, the kids like it.
