Posted this over on my server forum. Sodan's State of DE Dev Crapper Address....

They really screwed us over.

DEs have ben a patient bunch for a long time. Experimentation has never worked. We can paint droids now, but the paint only lasts one-day's use. They nerfed the probot early on, then gave CH dabblers even better pets. We have only medical and crafting droids to sell. The LE Repair droid does not repair. The Power Droid needs batteries to charge other droids. Personality chips don't add any charm -- or words - to a droid. Droid battery usage has gone way up; it annoys me and I'm a DE. Under the changes currently on the TC, Binary Load Lifters ADV (not basic model) will finally have functionality -- ONE module slot, meaning the MSE "Mouse" Droid ADV wil have twice the functionality of our "best" and most complex and largest droid. Thanks to expermentation being broken, all droids are cookie cutter droids which has lead to dramatic underselling with service being different DEs' only distinguishing trait. But though underselling has been rampant, the resources, time andcredits requred to make it to Master Droid Engineer and to craft droids have not dimished. Indeed, Droid Engineers have a HEAVY reliance on Master Artisan components (not to mention the need for architect power cores and armorsmith armor segments for our Power Droids and for our best armor).

For six months, I and a number of other DEs on this server have been waiting for fixes to the droid engineer profession. I bought this game to become a DE and dreamt of one day crafting and using a droideka. This week we found out that despite the fact that 90% of DEs oppose the idea, the much awaited "fix" to the DE profession will actualy not be a fix at all, but an entirely new profession: Droid Master. (Yes, that means that you can be a Master Droid Master someday soon).

Rather than fix DE, rather than give us new droids to make and use much like armorsmiths, weaponsmiths and CHs have recieved new or improved items to craft and pets to use, our "fixes" wll go into a new profession -- ostensibly to satisfy the minority of DE who wish to remain "pure crafters" unable to use their combat droids. (The majority of DEprefer crafting but also expect to control all of their non-skill based droids (like medic droids, unless they have medic abilities).)

The devs are right that there are important balance issues to address. The zoo that SWG became before the CH correction is a good example -- though query whether or not crap loads of droids is a bad idea in a Star Wars game. The approach they have taken really screws our profession in the name of balance. Many other systems have been proposed, many others are feasable, but the devs will instead cut and paste the CH code into Droid Master and rob patient DEs of the fruits of their patience.

Worse still, these proposed "fixes" are six months away. The fabled Droid Invasion is not occuring in January and February as initially planned.

Rialia, Fu'bar and I are actively contemplating whether there is a future for us in this game and in the DE profession. I would say we're taking a wait-and-see attitude, but that's the only attitude we've ever had. Be patient with your Droid Engineers. This game is really sucking for us right now.

Yeah, seriously. Great post, and I agree 100%. I also am just going to wait and see how DE is going. Right now I am practicing my combat skills, for fun. If DE gets better, I will drop my combat skills and finally finish mastering DE, since I havent yet. I dont see a point in mastering right now, since all I get is a big 1/2 of a mouse droid. Seems pretty crappy to me. Good Luck!

The outlook is very grim since our corrispondent is now openly working directly against the community.

All I can say on the Drashk matter is Boy am I glad you didn't vote me into power. His position must be a fairly miserable one

You know I hate to say it(well maybe not), but maybe it is time for a no-confidence vote in Drashk. I have nothing against him personally, but I do not feel he is representing the DE community as he should be. Although I dont know if we could even do that....Am I the first one to ever suggest this or has it been thought up before? Of course he is with the Dev's, so he probably will not be kicked out no matter what... Well Its just a crazy idea anyways, and im not 100% serious about this post. I meant it as a funny post but then I thought maybe it could be a good idea. Whatever.

<=== Thats a confused face just so you know. Kinda hard to see the question marks...

Whoah whoah whoah... I don't know bout that. Drashk is caught in a very tough spot here. On the one hand he has to represent a riotous and angered mob of players, and on the other hand he has to try and get across to them that the Devs plan is probably the best one. It's a job that makes enemies on all sides, and even after it's done there'll always be animosity. I find it amazingly brave of him to bear through it all and stay with the job.

Well put Sodan as usual. I've Long enough for this profession to be fun. It's not, it's more of a Job than a Game. Per TH it'll be fun in July...yeah right I'll believe that and Pay them 6 more months worth for them to MAYBE make DE fun. Now they cut off the jedi persuit tree also, Quest means more BS, I saw over 3 years of SOE quests in EQ and they All sucked!

unfortunately you hit the nail on the head :/ unfortunate because its so true, after waiting from the 1st month of live for droid improvements i can honestly say weve seen as many screw ups as we have seen improvements. it is a terrible time to play DE as we wont see the combat modules for anpother 3 to 5 months, and the new droids at least 6 months out....well were begging for a timeline and we got one. DE is not what any of us were expecting and i am sure i am not the only DE contemplating switching craft classes in the interim. oh well i lie SWG overall but i do tire of the DE wait ...

YOu have more patience then me. I'm already started dropping it, about half right now. I am having fun with my new medic skills, and I can actually fight stuff now too. With my BE Kahmurrah I mean, my ProBots spend most of their time in my datapad regenerating. I have the resources to grind it out again when its worth it. Good Luck to you!

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

Yep, and I give the developers until January 31st. If there's no new droids, then I find another MMORPG. I would say about 70% of the people I know in game have cancelled their accounts. I waited the wait for 8 months of being promised something new for DE. No longer do I wait.

Yeah, I tell you what. The combat droid certifications should be based on player age. So you spend6 months in SWG, you get a cert for a medium combat droid. You spend 12 months in SWG, you get a heavy combat droid.

That would solve all of the problems, because nobody would ever get powerful droids. Whoever can last a full year in this game has more intestinal fortitude than they need as a human.

One thing is for sure, when I quit DE I quit the game. I don't like the idea of making my best droids for L33T D3WDs.If I was another class, I would still always resent one of the things I loved most about the films. No droids = no Star Wars.

If you are on the Starsider Galaxy, and you see me in-game, I will be having a garage sale. Next time I log in, it will be time to pack it up.
