Thread: Difference Between a Droid Chassis and a Droid Deed

I've recently finished my grind for Master DE and now I'm simply overworking the factories to get my stockpile of components and subcomponents before I actually dive into the real work.

I've read the information contained in the Droid 101 sticky but I have a question or two if they're not redundant. If they are, please forgive me.

I want to know what the difference is between a chassis and a deed. I know that the deed is the finished project. This is what initializes a droid and stores it into your datapad. The reason I ask is because the DE 101 sticky recommends keeping a variety of chassis' on hand to fit fast demands. In the game, I've examined the schems for for chassis and deed for the same class of droid and I thought that perhaps a chassis would be a required component in a deed schem but I don't see where a deed schem calls for a chassis.

So what's the difference? Furthermore, if I can make a chassis and then later customize it with modules and so forth, how is that done? I apologize for not actually experimenting with this in-game before coming to the board but I didn't want to waste a lot of valuable resources if I didn't have to.

the finished droid is the deed

the deed is made of sub-components one of them is called a chassis

if you want to make decorations make chassis you can drop them in your house to look like a droid

if you want to make a droid u can call and use make a deed

The chassis is only required in the advanced version of the droid (and even then only R4's and above, not MSE's, R5's, treadwell's, DZ70's, or power droids).

Main difference I see, is that a Chassis can be put down just like adeed, but that the deed can become a functional droid (more or less, depending on what modules it was made with).

So insteady of putting down a Protocol droid deed, you might want to choose a adv protocol chassis instead.

Can be cheaper, resource wise.

To elaborate further and hopefully explain further

A Chassis is a component in the making of most of the Advanced Driods. For a DE we can't even make those droids without first making the appropriate Chassis.

A Chassis if dropped in your house (anyone not only DEs) will be like a furniture/statue item showing that droid but will be just that - furniture

A fully complete Droid Deed is the only way anyone can call a Droid that is functional (depending on the components installed for how functional it is), but if you drop the Deed in your house it will look like any other Deed, a very small brown square item.

Wrong. If you drop a droid deed in your house, it looks like a droid just like it does when in your inventory before you drop it. One of the first decorations I made was an R2 deed (not advanced) with nothing in it because it didn't really require much more than an Adv R2 chassis would have. The 3p0 decoration however is the chassis because that's the only way apparently to get that 3p0 gold color.

Really? If so then sorry, my bad. I guess I don't think I've ever dropped a droid deed in my house as far as I remeber it so I was just assuming. Also still somewhat newly back, so it's not like I've done everything back and forth for years anyway. Curious though that you say it looks the same as in your Inventory - though all Droid Deeds looked in Inv like all other Deeds, a brownish square. Anyway, if somebody wants a droid to look spiffy as essentially a piece of furniture in their house there is no need to make a full Droid Deed even if it will look the same when dropped cause there is a bunch more crafting to get to that point.

Well actually at one time when a fully functional droid was in deed form and you dropped it in a house it looked like a deed. That was long ago. Now when you drop a fully functional droid deed down in a house it looks like a droid. Boy has this proffesion advanced!

FYI only. History is wonderful.

I think chassis are the better choice for decorating because you can name them nearly anything. In my guild's cantina, I put in a few seekers and named them "Security Droid" and put them in corners and behind the bar. I also built a few LE chassis' and named them various number/letter combos to make them seem like actual waiter droids.

And if ever you need a spare chassis, you can use your decoration. But, if you use a deed as decoration and try to sell it, you probably won't get customers with fancy names and numbers. Think of it, if you had no knowledge of droids and had to choose between two astromech with the stats you need and one is Deed for: R2 and the other is Bill's Servant, which would you pick?

Just my two credits.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my questions. I guess the reason behind it--and this could just be a result from my own lack of observation--is that I failed to see where advanded droid deeds called for a droid chassis in the schem.

Again, I'll be the first to admit that I just have not paid much attention. At this point, I'm still trying to stockpile crates of components and subcomponents before I even begin thinking about crafting deeds. I just know that at some point, I will come around to throwing chassis' into the factories but didn't see the logic behind doing so because I haven't seen them called for in the deed schems.

lol it's all good. I'm actually a new MDE myself. Oh and I do seem to remember when I started playing a little over a year ago that yeah droids were the brown squares but as someone mentioned at some point they changed it. I can definitely see the point with names and chassis vs. full deed. I've only done the one full R2 as a deco droid since like I said it wasn't much more to make a full standard R2 vs. the Adv R2 chassis. Definitely would NOT sell for anything other than for someone to use as decoration though. It's totally empty of any modules lol.
