Thread: Does a DE need to be a Master Artisan?
Need to? Not exactly.
But that's like asking: "Does my car really NEED to have a gas tank bigger than one gallon?"
No, maybe not, if you always drive in areas where you're VERY close to gas stations, and don't mind the invonvenience of having to fill up several times a day.
We use a LOT of Master Artisan components, beginning at BP1, where our first sellable item, the bounty hunter seeker droid becomes available.
An R3 droid requires two advanced droid brains, each of which takes four GP modules and four memory modules. (by the way, they all have to be factory-identical modules, because the two advanced brains need to be factory-identical). Most of the other desirable droids also use some (though fewer) M.A. components as well.
Just like the others have said.
Nearly everything we make requires MA components or components made from MA components.
I'd hate to not be an MA at this point. It would be so not fun.
Hey guys thanks for the advice. I also spoke with a member in our PA dropping DE and all crafting. He basically said the same thing.
My other option is getting the MA's in my guild to make a schematic for me with my resources so I can run it on my factory at my convienence. At this point I'm going to hedge my bets and train up to Master Artisan (all I have left is the dom III and dom IV). At some point I may decide to give it back if I find a steady supplier.
I have to agree it really sucks that this broken profession is also so reliant on mastering another. As an architect we only need a few MA things for a few structures or furniture, so I can get by just ordering from a friend.
Thanks again for your responses.
Shiner aka Novide DE
Yes, we do, and yes, it sucks.
I've tried to get some attention to this issue, but some people seem very content with this. They are the people that only craft and don't do anything else, generally. Or they are in a guild that has a MA, or have a close friend that does. I have neither.
It's simply not right that we are the only crafting profession that has such a huge reliance on another class. It's not interdependence, it's total dependence.
I brought this up yesterday regarding how our customization kits need yet another MA part, and our corrispondent seems to like it - which makes me very sad that we don't have someone in there who thinks that the master artisan parts in general are just too much.

Instead of decreasing our reliance, why not increase other professions reliances? Right now, as I see it the following relationships exists:
DE -> Master Artisan, Armorsmith, Architect
Architect -> Master Artisan, DE
As for the rest of the professions... meh! LOL
Make droid storage compartments required objects in say shield generators, or a component that adds an extra kick to weapons...
So even to create the most basic of armors, an Armorsmith is dependent on two different classes, one of which is an elite class. Whereas DEs (once again to make the most basic of droids) need the ability to survey ... which they most likely already have.
Relax ... it could be worse than needing Master Artisan ...
To answer the original question, you DO NOT need to be a master artisan to be a successful DE. I'm a box away from Master DE (just haven't ever felt a need to grind, so I'm progressing naturally) and I've NEVER been a master artisan. I worked out a good deal to get my MA parts that benefits both him and myself.
So, no being master artisan is not necessary, despite what others would suggest to you.
