Ultimately, this is the problem. Slicing droids and any kind of droid module that augments a player's innate skills isn't going to happen. Its basically "free" skills and abilities and I can't sell that unless we also agree to lower everyones innate skills to balance it out...and I can't see everyone saying, "lets nerf everyone so we can have cooler droids".

The other thing is that harvest maintenance, surveying and another class of abilities isn't a viable alternative because of the technological limitation. However this DE effort has let the devs lay the groundwork to add more modules in the future.

This was a strong start and like everything else, it will continue to develop.

Now just what is the DE community supposed to take from this?

What is the point of crafted items if not to "augment a player's innate skills?" Did I miss some fundamental truth about this game? With this statement, TH has confirmed a belief that many in the DE community have long held: Droids are an afterthought in SWG. They are the placenta on the delivery room floor.

I truely hope that TH takes a moment to re-evaluate this statement, and perhaps even retract it completly. It essencialy states that droids have no future in SWG.

I think this time he's really put his foot in his mouth. I really don't know what to say to that kind of comment except challenge him to order a droid from one of us and see how truly "usefull" it is....especially to a Commando.

Yea...I always love trying to explain to a Master Commando or a Master Pikeman or whatever why they would want a droid.

Them: "What will a droid do for me?"

Me: "Hmmm.....well, you could store stuff. And...it looks cool...but..."

Them:

Thanks, Devs. We continue to be the laughing stock profession of the game (and it seems we may always be that way).

Note: For those interested (or not), the statement by TH basically sank any positive or hopeful attitude that I have on our future. It makes it a lot easier to be more realistic.

TH for President! Afterall, he does fit in with a Politicians lifestyle...Lie...Lie...Lie...Lie...Deceive...Lie...Cheat, Steal, Lie again and do some more damage.

I am reminded of Skill Tapes.

What do they do if not "augment" one's skills in a non-self costing manner?

I am reminded of every thing in this game:

What does a weapon with a power-up do if not "augment" one's skills in a non-self costing manner?

What does a Krayt weapon do if not "augment" one's skills in a non-self costing manner?

What does armor do if not "augment" one's skills in a non-self costing manner?

What does getting a doctor's buff do if not "augment" one's skills in a un-self costing manner?

As far as the talk of technological firewalls, that is B...F-ing...S... Laziness strikes again.

SOE, the DEVs and TH have proven numerous times that they do not care for nor want to hear about/from the DE community. They are a bunch of Poke-mon copy & paste freaks who have no sense of originality. Their likeness sickens me and I am nearing the completion of my account. I do not think I will be paying these people's wages again!

This is part of the reason why we as DE's get so upset. In Three months this game will be one year old. So for 3/4 of a year the DE's have not even had the groundwork laid for our profession.

Now I understand this may not paint an accurate situation but itdefinatly paints an accurate view of my (and other long time DE's) feellings of how SOE has delt with this profession. Right now I am making more credits as a M. Artisan than I am as a DE and the DE profession should be an advanced profession off the artisan profession IMHO.

As a master commando and a former MDE, I feel I can comment quite well on this

A probot is completely useless to me. Just about all droids are completely useless to me. The only droid I've used since giving up my MDE skills is just one with a storage module, and that was only to hold some armor for me before I could get to an insurance terminal.

There really isn't any kind of droid that I could make use out of, especially on any kind of continued basis. Probots are sometimes usefull in pvp, just as a distraction to my enemy to make him target the probot and hopefully delay him a bit so I can get close, but they die about as fast as I can spam "a"

So lets face it, droids are only usefull to crafters and medics. blegh ( *** insert intestinal gas sounds here*** )

More and more I see them struggling to find a use for Droids. The problem is that droids were only built to do ONE thing. And thats help people with things they cannot do. I suggest they disband the Droid Engineer Profession so that we can all get on with our lives elsewhere.

I was never a HUGE Star Wars fan, but I loved the series and one of the coolest thing was alawys the droids. You don't see droids in SWG. He's basically said that droids cannot be what droids are, and that this profession is only here to give it a more SW-feel, even though it's useless.

Droids ARE free skills! They were hired/used to do things others couldn't/didn't want to do, or to help them do what they need done! If they want to Cert modules, that'd be fine, but how can they say "Free skills"? There are something things that don't necessarily give free skills. Droids that repair weapons/armor/clothing modules aren't "free skills" anyone can repair them. Letting a droid do a better job is just logical. Mini-factories or small harvesting/survying ability in a droid could be a requirement of Novice Artisan, all it would is keep people from getting themselves killed running all over trying to find the stats on two or three useless resources. In that case, it's swgcraft.com a "Free skill"? BAN THE SWGCRAFT USERS! NERF SWGCRAFT! C'mon here!

Is this is really Star Wars, then you can't make Droids out to be nothing but pretty. Droids are a FUNDAMENTAL part of Star Wars! Many characters had personality traits that revolved around droids (Han Solo's dislike of droids, especially on this ship).

Is this the point where all the DE's get togther and protest on each Server so they can ban our accounts, delete the DE profession and pretend we never existed? Here's a good excuse: "The Emperorer has decreed all Droids contraband in the most strong of ways, anyone seen with a droid will be killed and have their clone data erased by the Emperors decree!" Biggest droid ditch in the game, and a month later everyone can say "What's a droid? We have no droids! SHUT UP!" (Not much different from now really)

Being in the TH's position makes him one heck of a big target for ciritisism. So, let's break down the different parts of this particular target:

"Ultimately, this is the problem. Slicing droids and any kind of droid module that augments a player's innate skills isn't going to happen."

Preception: Droids will never have any usefullness.

"Its basically "free" skills and abilities and I can't sell that unless we also agree to lower everyones innate skills to balance it out"

Preception: Everyone else gets to make items that give people "free" skills (armor, guns, food etc...). But for some reason, if droids had a point in the game, it would create "balance" issues. No Fair.

"and I can't see everyone saying, "lets nerf everyone so we can have cooler droids"

Preception: Laying the blame for worthless droids at the feet of the players? That's pretty dirty.

"The other thing is that harvest maintenance, surveying and another class of abilities isn't a viable alternative because of the technological limitation."

Preception: SOE didn't think DE thru at the begining, so now it is forever destined to be the "**edit**" profession.

"However this DE effort has let the devs lay the groundwork to add more modules in the future."

Preception: Double Speak. After utterly and completly destroying the moral of the DE community, and essencially stating droids will never be usefull, you dare speak of the future? Fork tounged if ever I say it.

"This was a strong start and like everything else, it will continue to develop."

Preception: Hollow, Hollow Hollow. This is coming straight from the bottom of a dry well. 6 months+ with no progress does not leave even a glimmer of hope for future progress.

TH, I have enjoyed the flow of information in the past, even if what you said was not entirely popular with myself and others. But this recent post of yours has SERIOUSLY compromised any credibility you may hope to have in the future. A true player's advocate (an image you have tried so very hard to project) would never hold to a statment like that.

Um, doesn't this mean that the capabilities a medical module give are basically "Free skills" for medics; allowing wound treatement away from cities and camps?

Doesn't this mean that droids with a built in crafting module is basically "Free skills"; since they allow people to craft and experiment away from public and private crafting stations?

Doesn't this mean that droids with a built in repair module are basically "free skills", since they allow black wound repair on droids without a droid repair kit?

Doesn't this mean that droids with a data module are basically "free skills", since now a crafter can hold more schematics in a datapad than a crafter without one?

Doesn't this mean that a droid with a combat module that does so much as ONE point of damage to a mob or distract it from the player is basically "free skills", since it adds to the amount of damage the player can do?

Doesn't this mean that a droid with an entertainer module that enhances entertainer's healing with their light show capability is basically "free skills" if it provides enhancement the way medical modules do?

Basically Thunderheart, my point is not only have you "justified" minimal if any, further useful capabilities added todroids, but the more cynical amongst us might even say you've laid the groundwork for removing what we DO have.

Is this our punishment for rejecting the Droid Handler profession?

You all thought these were good quotes?

Check this out: I got this back from TH on a recent PM regarding the fact that we were getting restless awaiting updates and clarification on the coming P7 push.

Enjoy!

Re: The DEs are getting restless again...

TK,

This is a natural cycle and its going to be up to you, Drask and the others to keep things on a positive tone. In essence, we've bent over backwards to give you guys what you want. As it stands, Im working with Drashk to get some questions answered, but the fact is, if you guys have issues, then bring them to Drashk and we'll get them done. And when this publish is over, there are 33 other professions that need attention - - turning it into a positive place is as much up to the leaders of that community as much as it is JustG and me...

th

I'll let you make of that what you all will.

I especially like the part in yellow.

What we want is for droids to be more immersive and useful in this game. Anybody seen this? Hmm.. didn't think so.

It looks like we're the only ones getting bent over.

WHAT?!?!?!?!? When did this happen? I must have been absent that day.

TH, all you have done is misunderstand and construe our thoughts into something they were not. Nothing has gone live yet. Nothing in my DE profession is any different than it has ever been. The other "32" professions have had their share of love and attention. You are attempting a pathetic compromise for our forgiveness. Please give it up. You and the DEV team both suck. I don't care what people say or if you delete my posts. You offer no assistance, no attention nor care for what I feel is the most important part of Star Wars, the DAMN DROIDS...

I SURE AS HELL DID NOT SEE HAN SOLO yell out to Leia: "Hey Leia, pass me that skill tape so I can get this door open before that AT-ST kills us all." NOPE! What did they say: "R2, you might be able to tell the computer to open the door for us!"

He sent this back to me via forum PM, Barfalomue. This wasn't posted on the forum in a regular TH post.

I'm sorry....but I have no interest (nor should any of us, now) in being positive or upbeat when it appears that we are going to be basically useless laughing stock forever in this game.
