Thread: SOE Finally Admits that Droids Will Always be Worthless. [usefullness] isn't going to happen
What a disgrace and a slap in the face to a dedicated and passionate community. I've never seen such blatant denial and disregard for a persistent problem that is not a "gray area," no an "opinion" or an overreacting, whining community, but a FACT. The DE profession has been nearly non-functional since day one. How ANY excuse can be offeredfor something like the LE repair droid issue or the simple fact that the droid economy does NOT function blows my mind. There IS no excuse other than SOE royalled F-ed up. You don't have "bugs" or "imablance" issues, you have MAJOR, utterly non-functional "features."
ThunderHeart, your comments are akin to being wheeled into a hospital with broken legs, multiple gunshot wounds, bleeding all over the floor and at deaths door, when the doctor shows up, slaps a band-aid on your arm and tells you, "Sorry, this hospital really just isn't equipped to help you, and besides I have 33 other patients I have to look after."
The DEV team failed this community from Day 1, releasing a non-functional profession and wasting people's time and money. They've ignored us, shoved us to the aside, and attempted to placate us with pathetic attempts at a "solution," and then daring to tell us that, essentially, tough luck- "We F-ed up from the beginning and there's no way to fix it, but we'll blame it on you anyway." It's an affront to dedicated and enthusiastic people such as this community.
ThunderHeart, you should be ashamed of yourself.
I find it kind of funny that my dropping some of the positive/upbeat attitude has reversed my 1-starring. Now I'm seeing 5's again by returning to where I was....

What, we're supposed to remain positive and upbeat no matter what? We can't remain positive in the face of the Mushroom Treatment.
(For those that don't know: Mushroom Treatment == Kept in the dark and fed bullsh**)

Negative commentary will always garner more public support than positive comments. It's a fact of human (and particulary, American) culture.
I saw a commentary the other day (a link was posted in the DE forums, you probably all read it as well) where the author stated that he was having trouble with the Bounty Hunter profession, then he visited the forums where everyone was pissed off and he realized that he was pissed off, too. That's just human nature.
It's a LOT easier to incitethe massesto anger than to convince them of a position. They might not even know why they're angry, they just know that, "Geez, I'm angry too." They'll regurgitate the same negative catch phrases ad naseum until someone else convinces them that they should actually be angry at something else.
It's sad, but that's how the group psychology works. Play to the primitive emotions instead of the rational part of the brain and you reap a kind of artificial yet powerful support.
BTW TK I'm not trying to bash you here, I'm just making a general commentary on society (don't know why I decided to do it here... ?). Now that this particular snowball is rolling, there will be no getting back to a positive atmosphere in this forum.

It was nice while it lasted.
Instead of trolling by posting off-topic essays on human nature andanti-americanism how about you contribute your positive ideas on the situation?
Please, instead of waxing philosophical why don't you tell us what you are positive about right now?
If you are truly positive, nothing anyone else says should have any bearing on it - if it does, you were never positive, just in denial.
Please look at the launchpad today. "Did you know?" is a link to the patch notes. It is indeed called the Droid Invasion. Out of 10 or so things listed for droid changes, only 2-3 are actually changes - the rest are descriptions of the crafting process. ("A combat droid is a droid is a droid that is constructed by a droid engineer.")
I'm begging you - share with us all this positivity you have. I WANT TO BE POSITIVE. I just lack the knowledge as to how in this situation.

Now just what is the DE community supposed to take from this?
What is the point of crafted items if not to "augment a player's innate skills?" Did I miss some fundamental truth about this game? With this statement, TH has confirmed a belief that many in the DE community have long held: Droids are an afterthought in SWG. They are the placenta on the delivery room floor.
I truely hope that TH takes a moment to re-evaluate this statement, and perhaps even retract it completly. It essencialy states that droids have no future in SWG.
100% true. IF you think about droids in context to what their purposes were in Star Wars, you fill find one thing undeniable: droids exist to assist a person with tasks. 3PO translates better than a person could ever possibly, r2 fixes better than any living being (basically), Assasain droids have all the tools they need to assainate, and of course wardroid are far superior to any human could ever be. Hell, we could even take this to vehicles and then technology in general. Without technology, we'd still be fisfighting in caves and eating with our hands.
Now, while I enjoy fingerfood as much as the next guy, I don't think it would be too much to ask for a characters Food Eating Ability to go from +50 to +55, +60, +65 etc from pikcing up a fork and a knife. God help us if said character also obtains a plate! woooo uber loot plate of eating stuff +1....no wait we can't let people use plates, that would unbalance the game! Gimmie a break.
The point is, thatin real life all technology exists to make our lives easier. In SWG, the same is or at least should be true. The medical modules let medics relax a little in terms of camp requirements, storage modulesease the stress on our inventory, and hopefully combat modules will assist us greatly in....well.... killing stuff. To not allow droids to fufill their purpose in SWGis complete and utter Star Wars Blasphemy.
Droids ARE Star Wars, especially with the lack of starships. Droids HAVE to play a key role in daily life for a great number of the population or we might as well just drop the "Star Wars" from the title completely.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. I guess we haven't squeaked enough yet.

BHs have always been a ferocious lot since before launch (and they have a lot of good reasons to be).
It's a LOT easier to incitethe massesto anger than to convince them of a position. They might not even know why they're angry, they just know that, "Geez, I'm angry too." I don't think someone has to look very hard for valid reasons to be upset about the state of DE.
It's sad, but that's how the group psychology works. Play to the primitive emotions instead of the rational part of the brain and you reap a kind of artificial yet powerful support.
Yea, I'm all for being rational. But, rationality kind of falls by the wayside in the face of our being handed 3rd-class status in the future of SWG. Unless something comes out that contradicts that, I'd say we may likely be relagated to that position for the long term. (Sorry for doubting you, Audio.)
BTW TK I'm not trying to bash you here, I'm just making a general commentary on society (don't know why I decided to do it here... ?). Now that this particular snowball is rolling, there will be no getting back to a positive atmosphere in this forum.
I didn't take this as a bashing (I agree with most of what you said). I guess I tried to make things a bit better...and it worked for awhile.
But, I can't fight the tide in the face of what appears to be our future.
That being said, I don't want the DE boards to get super-negative (against each other, that's key). We need to place our anger and hurt at the feet of those that deserve it...not our brother DEs.
Be mad at the game. Be mad at the features. Be mad at the future. But.......don't be mad (or rant at) each other. We are all in the same boat.
I have a much better idea of whom to target now. If the positive tone I tried to promote had actually been returned in kind with real, useful, valid information and discussion.....I might not have taken off the gloves.
That time has past, however.
So much for "communication".

I'm really at a loss for words to describe what I'm thinking right now. After reading, reviewing, and comprehending much of what was said here, I guess it's back to old fashioned "raising awareness" for me.

We need to "wrangle" what's wrong with our profession. That doesn't mean 'targeting' the Devs for some kind of character assassination though.
Don't shoot the messenger.....just the message.
Edited note: As this applies to TH - your messages on DE/droid stuff are often laughably incorrect or horribly misrepresentative to the actual state of a game feature or system. I don't mean that in an offensive way. It simply is what it is. "Race ipsa locquitor" (that's Latin, for those playing the home game.)

If by "raising awareness", you mean 'taking-off-the-upbeat-gloves', then I'm all for that.
We tried to be nicey nice for awhile. I think we all know how that went. I'm tired of playing a bit o' cheerleader when we get kicked in the teeth.
I remember you saying something about playing nice for awhile and if that went bad, you were gonna 'open up' (so to speak). I guess you can get out the can opener now.

Well, I'm not ready to loose the dogs of war, as P7 and P8 aren't on live yet. What I'm saying is that we should make every effort to bring to light thedespicable state of droids in this game to everyone and anyone who might listen: on the forums, in the game, and outside the game.
Agreeing to a focus on utility, then restricting the definition of utility to something so horribly narrow as to be laughable is a serious 'kick in the teeth.'
They've only mentioned two modules for P8 so far, and not very impressive ones at that. I'll keep my pistol holstered for now, until I see more of what they said would be coming with the utility modules. For me, now isn't the time to get a rope, I need to see what more is slated for P8.
I'm no Polyanna though, and I'll raise hell when hell is due. Right now, maybe TH is just trying to "lessen" the expectations of the community? I don't know... and no, I'm no TH apologist.
I will wait and see.
