Thread: Combat Droid exp reduction (numbers)

OK, here's what I came up with for numbers...

The test:
Mob: lvl 80 shallow tortons (easy to kill one at a time and compare)
Me: lvl 80 MBH/Carbineer, no inspiration buff
Droid: lvl 30 DZ70 "Deathticle"

I ran each of these steps 20 times, what you see here are average numbers.

Solo: Each kill, 5123 xp
With droid helping: Each kill, 4935 xp (A 6.7% exp reduction)
Grouped with droid helping: Each kill, 4085 xp (20.2% reduction)

Conclusion: The higher effective level of your droid (grouping with my droid will raise his effective level to 80), the more exp reduction one will experience. It looks like a lvl 80 grouped with his droid would experience the most reduction, at about 20%.

Reposted from another thread, in which it wasn't entirely fitting with the thread's subject. Everyone else pretty much agree with these numbers?

Is it possible that droids are still acting under the pre-cu rules, where group exp is divied up based on damage done?

Possibly, or it might be that the group CL is being counted wrong. I'll try to run some tests on TC tonight with my CL0 DE and yard trash. Ever seen an Ithorian running for his life from a worrt before?

Ackdel, how did you find this out. Was the correct amount of XP floating over your target's head?

The floaties are kinda hard to read. I usually just compare the amount of XP I have before and after a kill. If you have the XP meter up for a skill, just hover your mouse over it before and after a kill. If you don't, just open up your skill window and look at the appropriate number. (pistol XP, rifle XP, etc.)

None of which answers my question. Does it report the correct amount or not?

I subtracted the number of carbine exp I had before the fight from the amount I had after the fight. In all instances, the flyover textalways showed 5123.

That's what I thought. So it not only does reduce the XP, it does so while still telling the user that it has NOT done so.

Ok, that is a major issue. The exp reduction is not accurately being reflected so people will not know that their exp is diminished. This is a bug that needs to be addressed. People do pay attention to the flyover text.

the fly over text that reportsXP is always going to display TOTAL amount of XP given. What you dont see in the fly out text is the ammount given to the appropriate skills.

Example: you kill creature X which awards 2000 XP. being grouped with your droid you loose 20% = 1600 XP delivered to you. During the fight you healed yourself a few times. so 10% is now split off for medic =1400XP remaining. now you also get a persentage of combat XP say 20% = 1000 Xp going to your combat proffesion.

so just because the fly out text says you get 5123 XP does not mean you get that ammount in your combat XP pool. it is just a represention of the ammount of xp awarded from the mob.

Yes this is a Droid issue, it is an issue for many professions. The flyover text is innaccurate in many cases, it certainly should be added to our bug list.

It is a problem with the flyover text and not droids directly, which is good. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.

Edit: I just got caught up on the other post.

Droids have always cut into your XP, that is how it is, most people realise this, so it is pretty much a given. No DE that I know here or in game would try to hide that information to artificially "inflate" the value of Combat Droids as you suggested. I actually doubt that many people realised the flyover text wasn't reporting correctly.

There is no conspiracy, there is no deception, please don't come accusing people of trying to do so. All that needed said was that the Flyover text was wrong. It's a bug and should be fixed.

I'm at work or I would test this myself. I'm curious to know if a non-Ch who pulled a pet to aid in combat faced similar XP reductions.

Pets for a non-creature handler are considerably weaker, granted, but an experience drop should still be evident.
