Thread: The ideal solution to the combat droid issue please read (including Thunderheart :P )
Ok, many DE's know my feelings about combat droids and all the recent stuff about them... but I've placed by self on-the-fence and grouped togethor a few ideas I've seen people suggesting over the past two days to make, what I believe to be, a seriously good idea.
Combat Droids Slots
A combat droid would have three types of specific slots during construction;
Combat AI Chip
The combat AIchip determines the damage abilities of any weapon a combat droid uses. It is a required component of all combat droid types. The different combat chips are;
¬ Level 1 chip
Schematic in Novice DE.A droid with a Level 1 chip can be used by any player. A level one chip gives a droid an attack strength of 25-50 damage.
¬ Level 2 chip
Schematic in Droid Production I. A droid with a Level 2 chip can only be used by players with one of the following skills;
Novice Brawler, Novice Marksman
A level 2 chip gives a droid an attack strength of 50-100
¬ Level 3 chip
Schematic in Droid Construction II. A droid with a Level3 chip can only be used by players that have gained any of the following skills;
Novice Fencer, Novice Teras Kasi Artist, Novice Swordsman, Novice Pikeman, Novice Pistoleer, Novice Carbineer, Novice Rfileman.
A level 3 chip gives a droid an attack strength of 100-150
¬ Level 4 chip
Schematic in Droid Production III. A droid with a Level 4 chip can only be used by players that have gained any of the following skills;
Master Brawler,
Master Marksman
A level 4 chip gives a droid an attack strength of 150-200
¬Level 5 chip
Schematic in Droid Construction IV. A droid with a Level 5 chip can only be used by players that have gained any of the following skills;
Master Fencer, Master Teras Kasi Artist, Master Swordsman, Master Pikeman,Master Pistoleer,Master Carbineer, Master Rifleman
A level 5 chip gives a droid an attack strength of 200-250
¬ Level 6 chip
Schematic in Master Droid Engineer. A droid with a Level 6 chip can only be used by players that have gained any of the following skills;
Master Droid Engineer, Novice Squad Leader
A level 6 chip gives a droid an attack strength of 200-300
Combat Module
The combat module determines the "type" of attack a Droid can perform. A combat module can be placed in the appropriate combat slot during construction of a droid. Some droids may have several combat slots allowing a droid to perform different types of attacks. Other droids may be limited to one certain combat slot.
¬ Melee Module - uses Melee combat slot
This requires adroid knuckler weapon from an weaponsmith. The different knuckler determines the range and armour piercing bonuses the droid gains during attack.
¬ Bladed Module - uses Melee combat slot
This requires a droidblade from a weaponsmith. The different sword determines the range and armour piercing bonuses the droid gains during attack.
¬ Pistol Module - uses ranged combat slot
This requires a droid pistol from a weaponsmith. The different pistol determines the range and armour piercing bonuses the droid gains during attack.
¬ Carbine Module - uses ranged combat slot
This requires a droid carbine from a weaponsmith. The different carbine determines the range and armour piercing bonuses the droid gains during attack.
¬ Rifle Module- uses ranged combat slot
This requires a droid rifle from a weaponsmith. The different carbine determines the range and armour piercing bonuses the droid gains during attack.
Droid Weapons
There are several weapons required during the construction of a droid combat module. These are all made by a weaponsmith. They are as follows;
¬ Droid Knuckler
The Droid knuckler is found in the Melee Weapons tree within the Weaponsmith profession. Each box allows a higher-level knuckler to be produced. Each level knuckler allows a different bonus of armour piercing and effective range.
¬ Droid Blade
The Droid Blade is found in the Melee Weapons tree within the Weaponsmith profession. Each box allows a higher-level blade to be produced. Each level blade allows a different bonus of armour piercing and effective range.
¬ Droid Pistol
The Droid Pistol is found in the Firearms tree within the Weaponsmith profession. Each box allows a higher-levelpistol to be produced. Each levelpistol allows a different bonus of armour piercing, speedand effective range.
¬ Droid Carbine
The Droid Carbine is found in the Firearms tree within the Weaponsmith profession. Each box allows a higher-levelcarbine to be produced. Eachcarbine allows a different bonus of armour piercing, speed and effective range.
¬ Droid Rifle
The Droid Rifle is found in the Firearms tree within the Weaponsmith profession. Each box allows a higher-level rifleto be produced. Each rifle allows a different bonus of armour piercing, speed and effective range.
Defense Module
Droid Armour (defense module) would work exactly the same as the current system. Combat Droids, however, may well contain more defense module slots to mimmick the idea of sheilds (such as Droideka).
-----------------------------------
Ok, I think that pretty much covers every aspect of a Combat Droid except for going into details of the droids themselves (which is irrelevant right now).
This idea means that;
- Anyone can use a combat droid
- Only high-level combat droids can be used by people that have learnt high-end skills
- Master Droid Engineers get the ability to use the best type of combat droid (which should please all DEs)
- All combat droids require a weapon which has to be crafted by a weaponsmith
I believe that would pretty much quell all of SOE's fears.
In essence, the combat droid becomes a support role for ALL combat professions. This sytem allows droids as powerful (or even more powerful) than the pre-nurf probot without the fear or new characters using the higher-end droids. Basicaly, combat droids gain the same uses and abilities as weapons...
Sorry that was a bad joke. Great Ideas here. This one has my vote!
I understand your thinking on this thread, however if i may I'd like ot interject a few thoughts...
You have completely left out any type of Artisan class other than a fellow DE from really using any of your droids.
There is really no reason why any class couldn't control your droids so your segmentation of the professions based on Combat AI chip is rough on everyone.
Regardless of personal feelings on other professions several that you left off could SERIOUSLY benefit from the use of your droids...not ot mention that you are severly limiting your marketablity.
Pistoleers, Bounty Hunters, Rangers, Doctors, Combat Medics could all benefit from a H2H type combat droid.
you have narrowed your market and excluded several professions that could be helped by the use of this new droid system you have proposed. Just wondering why?!?!
KiiRin, my idea allows ANY player to use a combat droid. A droid with a level one combat AI chip can be used by ANYONE ... it would require no skills. This means a combat droid is not limited to anyone or anything.
Since a level two combat AI chip can be gained with the two novice combat professions, its again allowing combat droids to be used by nearly anyone.
No one is left out in this. But at the same time, it brings balance.
BH and Commando are already over-powered, therefore they should not gain any extra droid abilities than what they already gained from the initial combat profession ... however, allowing the other elite combat professions to gain extra combat droid abilities makes them more level with BH and Commando.
Squadron Leader gains the highest combat ability because, IMO, it should be the strongest of ALL combat professions.
Master Droid Engineer also gains the highest combat abilities because so many people want DE to be a droid handling profession, this allows for that.
but all in all not a bad idea.
Though I would still like to have 1 MDE only chassis, even if it does the same damage as the SL one
I love this idea !
What about the chassis ? Would a mouse droid be able to have a combat AI chip ? Or only combat droids ? What would be great is that a lvl 1 combat droid could be perfectly crafted by a low lvl DE, as well as a master would. So that a novice DE would have a market instead of a grinding life !
Happy Halloween dear Vampire !
Vamp,
You really need to read the other boards before making generalized comments like " so and so is already overpowering"
you have no idea just how little power some of the classes you omited really have. BH's for example can incapp them selves just as fast as a Carbineer with HAM costs and in the last 3 stealth patches thier damage output has lowered so much that they are ineffectual in both PVP and PVE. They have a total of like +25 defense at MASTER level.
That is just a small sample of ONE example. Many professions are bugged, broken or just plan not working. there is no reason to exclude folks based on the reason you gave.
Not trying ot flame you or piss you off. I think it's a cool idea you have here. Obviously i'm not a DE but I'd love to also see more droid that freakin Rancors running around too.
KiiRin, like you say I'm not fully aware of all profession issues .. but thats the beuaty of this system
Because the combat droid ability is tied to a specific chip, which tern is tied to a skill mord or cert, it can be played with throughout ALL professions.
If BH say they should gain one, then let them have the same chip as all over elite combat professions.
If other crafters say they should get one too, then let the master class of each crafting profession have a level 2 or 3...
My idea is just the basis which can easily be molded to suit all ![]()
As for what droids should have these combat slots?
Well, I think they SHOULD be limited to combat droids and to begin with, I don't think any new droids should be added until this new system is tried and tested on DZ70's and Probotots.
MSE Mouse droids should never have any kind of combat abilities including this homing bomb idea....
Imagine being able to ask a DE to build them a Battle Droid with a pistol module. The module itself could define the weapon the Battledroid is holing too...
I like the part about the AI combatchips /cheer
BUT I really dont want to depend on any more classes for parts. I dont want to have to get so many parts from weaponsmiths. I'd think itd be better to just have 2 types of weapons, laser banks and some kind of melee.
I think the combat module and droid weapon part should be merged, with only parts made by DE. we use parts by other professions too much already. less is more. except AI combat chips is excellent.
