Thread: Useful idea for protocol droids?
Crafters should be able to use them as intelligent shopkeepers of sorts. Some times it is hard to get with someone to deliver a finished product. This is how protocol droids could help.
Someone contacts me and wants to buy *insert item here*. I tell them ok it will take me a day or 2, I will send you an email when it is completed. Craft the item, send email stating you will place the item in your store on your Protocol Droid, under his name. Said person can come by anytime to the store. Radial menu...converse with protocol droid. "hello *insert name*, Master Soandso has one item for you, price 12000 credits, would you like to purchase this item now?" Click yes credits drafted retrieve item from Droid.
So basically the crafter makes an item and "lists" it with his protocol droid, sets the price and "connects" it with a player. Said crafter would still have to have a vendor as the protocol droid would be for special orders only.
How about a related function to both of these, a remote speaker/barker/communicator?
If a 3PO could be rigged so that it /tells you everything it hears, and you can /tell it things and it will say them, then you'd have something pretty darned interesting.
Imagine a protocol droid acting as your agent, and providing you with a basic text-only link to the person it is interacting with. Now imagine adding an R2 droid as a support, and gaining the ability to enjoy telepresence.
Ah, nice dreams...
This has probably already been discussed way back when, but I personally think it would be great to have a protocol droid act as a portable vendor. Heck bring him into the city, have him loaded up with product, and people can just come around and buy things off of him. Go protocol!
Great idea.

This is an outstanding idea, and is exactly the type of addition Droid Engineers need. We don't need combat droids, we need better utility droids!
Portable vendors, delivery droids, harvester tenders, portable harvesters, telepresence "shop tenders"... the list is endless.

I agree completly. I have Wookie friends and Trandoshan friends....both refusing to speak with each other (Roleplay reasons...most understand why.) I wouldlove to be able to build a protocol droid to act as the intermediatory. That could actually create some really cool situations.
It would be cool too from a role-playing standpoint to have a /petspeak function where you could type something and your droid would say it for you.
Like if someone approached you, youcould /petspeak your droid to say things like: "Greetings! My master wishes to speak with you personally. Please come inside." or "I am sorry but my master has instructed me to recieve alldroid inquiries. Please leave your order with me and I will see that he recieves this message."
This way at least you could steer some of the content.

Protocol droid with vendor capabilities? Hmmm..... better go look at the Master Merchant skill box. I think you'll find exactly what you are looking for.
A vendor which will reserve items explicitly for a specific customer? This is the function that makes this idea unique.
