Thread: Useful idea for protocol droids?
Most Crafters have the Problem that they have to explain things to there cutomers repeatedly. Specially we Droid Enigineers. My Idea would be to give protocoll Droids formemost another duty instead of maybe a plannded Language Translation feature.
The Master of a Protocol Droid should be able to customize the words he says to other ppl conversing with him. Something like the planned customized barking for vendors but with the option to create several dialoge trees.
Example: A Protocol Dorid stands in the shop of a Architect. You click him and he shakes n say "Hello i am W-3PO. Welcome to the shop of my master how can i assist you." Then 3 diaolog options appear like "What does your master charge forhouses?", "How do i place a house?", "Wheres the toilet?". He will answer to the question with his programmed dialog from his owner...
It should like like the ballot boxes while configuring and i bet everyone wanna have a protocol droid then for his Shop. He can be Afk while the droid supports his customers!
An additon would be...have advanced protocolls have a customizable sentence they bark as Player which meet a certain criteria like prof=master artisan or race=wookie or gender=female etc...
example:Like when a master artisian PC comes close to the adv protocoll droidwhich is programmed to bark at master artisians, the droid turns to him and says "Oh a master artisian. My master is looking for sensor suits at reasonable prices. If you like you can contact him. His name is master Jerom..."
Now Waypoints make sense! The droid works his given way through a city w waypoints and barks at PCs which meet his criteria....
P.S. (If it ever comes..)Translation should be a Module not a feature of Protocoll Droids. It works on every droid who can speak and of course makes mostsense on protocolls who deal with many alien races...normaly they just speak basic
Personality chips could do 2 things....
1. When you type in ur sentence it runs through a parser which replaces words with the words the droid with these personalitys would use...Or adding lines like starting the sentence with specific lines like "Hey You!..","Excuse me!",...
2.The personality chip also decides how the droid acts. Stupid Droidstend to forgetthere sentencesomtimes whenconversed with
"Umm sorry sir iforgot what i should say...umm...my memory is defect iguess.."
Sarcastic Droidssay things sometimes like
"I wont tell you anything! My master issure not interested in dealing withyour kind!"
The idea isn't to use protocol droids as barkers, but rather as a means to reserve a product for a specific customer that you may have difficulty meeting to deliver an item.
If you tell them "hey it's done come pick it up on my vendor" you run the risk of having the item bought by someone else coming through your store. This would actually use the protocol droid to reserve the item for one player and only that player could purchase theitem from the protocol droid.
Sometimes it is hard to get schedules to mesh and deliver a finished product to a customer. This would alleviate that. This would not take the place of the normal vendor, but rather be a specialised vendor.
It would have a limit of say, 10 items, and each item could be associated with a player character's name. So when Joebob runs up to my protocol droid and converses with him, the protocol droid references "joebob" in his little database and checks to see if he is storing anything for this person from the crafter. Does this make clearer sense?
In essence, I make an item, store it on my protocol droid and tell the droid to hold it until Joebob comes and asks for it, and when he does, this is how much to charge him.
It seems some people think this proposal is just to have a barking droid but that's not the case. Just trying to explain more.
I understand that maybe this idea is being discussed in the "right " proffession, being merchant.
But isn't the idea to give you guys more useful droids, that are useful to a wider range of proffessions, therefore making your products more in demand?
Why shouldn't merchant's have to buy a droid for a specialised delivery system?
It seems that too often they look within a proffession to fix a problem rather than looking outside a proffession.
Like, as a merchant, reserving items for specific players. Why look at making that a merchant fix, when they could put it in as a droid fix and kill 2 birds with one stone. Giving merchants some help delivering a product and making your droids more useful and NEEDED.
Basically, helping "fix" other proffessions by making other proffessions more useful. I mean , of course this can't be done in all cases but in some it could.
