"...Droids are supposed to be more common than pets, obviously. They aren't currently as useful nor as popular. The droids are also accessible to anyone, whereas higher level pets are gated to a degree. Given how pets took over the world, we want to be very careful about any changes that replicate the same thing all over again only with droids.

Combat droids are clearly something that's needed. Several of the things that DEs can do currently are somewhat obsolete, and there's a desire to have the droids do more (for example, have surgical droids that actually replace medics, as opposed to just enabling medics). Of course, each time we make a droid that replaces a player, we reduce group tactics and interdependence, and make the player profession less valuable in the game, so it's a tricky line to walk.

We've talked about having a "Droid handler" profession that would serve as the CH equivalent, and then DE wouild be the equivalent of BE. There's also just rolling the certs into the DE track itself."

That would be the Stupidest Idea ever. In Star Wars ANYONE can use droids, they are fricking machines, you get them programed and they obey you dont need a damned handler class for droids. If the devs did this it'd show how stupid they are. Do I need a Certification to use my Printer? a Vacuum? a Computer? TV? Washing Machine? NO. They need to just fix the DE class and add more droids. Whats next, taming wild droids? LOL

- I support NO DECAY.It should be run like EQ . No 20k price cap on the bazar and everyone can craft. Its has worked for 7 years on everquest and there is no decay plenty of money and no crazy prices.

Decay is only good for crafteres and bad for everyone else.

How the "heck" are you going to tame some thing that is programmed to follow someone elses orders? Or there could be instead of tame, reprogram command...... dont worry the devs wont see this they never come here.

**edit** that's bad! Folly! Droid Certs should just be tied to player levels, so if you're advanced enough in ANY profession you can use'em. A Droid Handler is sheer madness.

Holy droid droppings!

Malfunction!

1. Make it so DE's can create droids that have the same HAM, attack and resist values of the level 15 creatures that anyone can use from a CH. Give players a choice to either have pet or a droid as a companion fighter, but not both (at least not at the same time)

2. Make it so a player can have 1 battle droid and at least 1 utility droid out at the same time. Example in a camp have battle droid and a repair droid or surgical droid out. Make it so any non DE can only have 1 battle droid in their data pad at all and 2 utility droids to keep the current 3 droid limit.

3. Allow master DE's to be able to have up to 20 droids in their data pad and be able to call upto 3 combat droids out at a time like a CH master can with pets. Have it scaling up with the number they can keep in data pad / call out like CH's do with pets as they advance up the DE tree.

4. Allow for redeeding of droids.

5. Watch the movies!

WHY ADD A NEW CLASS FOR SOMETHING WE SHOULD ALREADY BE ABLE TO DO?!! We built the freakin things we should'nt have any problem controling them... I didn't see Han Solo at any time tell Luke to control the droids because he lacked the ability heh. They really have no idea what Star Wars is about do they?

What a load of bull....

"Given how pets took over the world, we want to be very careful about any changes that replicate the same thing all over again only with droids."

Is Holo honestly trying to tell us he didn't realize that if 10k+ HAM AT-STs and Rancors were available that people would actually want them?

Or even 3k non-CH pets? That only cost around 1.5k or many cases for free? And can be provided by 0/0/0/0 Novice CHs? All this after the probot nerf. And NOW he's worried about pets taking over the world?

I went DE anyways because that's what I wanted to do when I signed on to this game, holding out hope that it'll get fixed eventually. Posts like these containing vague promises and half-truths aren't very encouraging.

I would like to see weapon modules be available to the DEs to install in the probots. These modules would have to be purchased from a high level WS. Also some class (DE or a new class) that would allow more than one droid to be out at a time (even if of different types to prevent multiple probots out at once). And DE's should be able to have more than 5 droids in the pad. It is too hard to try and show people droid models when you can only keep 5, 3 of which are taken for my own use.

Droid Handler..what a bad idea..not only for the realism but for practicality. So, basically they want to make DE like BE and a DH like a CH? So if im a DH,I could go to Lok and tame me a droideka? and a DE couldn't even use the droids he makes? Well..im making alot of guesses, but the idea just seems silly.

If they need to go toa cert system, they need to spread the certs through each existing profession, not create a whole other class to use droids. And I am assuming this would only effect agreesive droids and possibly healing droids not common crafting or utility droids. So these certs can be added directly to the 'Ranged Support', 'Unarmmed Specialization' and throughout the elite combat trees for the high level fighters. This way, the level of combat droid a fighter can use will increase with the combat skills of the individual.

Another option is to direcly tie a persons ability to use a combat droid to the total accumulated experience a person has in the game and give the person a skill mod that can be trained up. Suppose a person has 10000 of total experience, than he can go to a DE and the DE can train him to +10 DriodTraining. The person can than use any combat droid that requires 10 or less DT skill (A DZ70 with usefull stats for example).

I definatly do not like the idea of having the certs in the DE trees only. That would make Driods even less viable to have since it would require folks to skill up Engineering than whatever boxes in DE to get a droid they can use. No non-artisan person would spend that many skillpoints to be able to use a droid. So you would end up with chefs and merchants with droidekas or assasin droids?? The only benefit I see in doing it this way, is that DEs may become a usefull profession to group with for combat, since they would be about the only ones who could bring out the metal tanks.

Hmm, I agree with the point about the Droid Handler being a bad idea.

However, going back to a previous person's point. Sure you don't need a cert to have a toaster, tv, or whatever. But you do need one to operate a car, aircraft etc. We are talking about Combat Droids here, machines designed to kill on their own. I am certain that if such a thing existed in today's world it would highly restricted and illegal for the ordinary citizen.

So the vanilla droid should be allowed for anyone, but I could definitely see licensing for Combat droids.

Lets go to the movies, who had the Droidekas? The trade federation, and they had an army of them, they had fleets of starships too, and political control. Not ordinary citizens.Who had the assassin bot? The bounty hunter, who lives outside the law.Who had probots? The empire. Obi Wan had those little annoying flyingtrainer droids to teach Luke to feel the force in Chapter 4, although they didn't seem to be deadly.I can't thinkof one case in the movies where therewas a killer bot in the hands of a regular citizen. Of course, being Star Wars, you really don't see many regularcitizens, although theymust exist.

Any comments?
