Yes, well, I was kind of hoping for something more than:
Droid Enhancements
· Display for power meter
· Droid Customization Kit
- kit useable by anyone
- customization lasts longer
· Customized appearances for Droid Deeds so that Droid Engineers can display the models they sell.
It is still an early look, but here is our goal for Droid Modules:
Entertainer module: Entertainers would get a certification so that only they could use this droid (no combat functionality is added so its different that the combat certs). This module would allow an entertainer to queue one of 10 different new effects (smoke, lighting, etc.) The advantage is that the droid won’t consume entertainers HAM (just batteries). Each module will represent a different effect. So with 10 different effects, there will be 10 Entertainer modules which means the higher level droids with more module slots will be more useful for queuing different effects.
Merchant Barker module: This would give droids the ability to bark advertisements, give waypoints to shops, have additional information available so players could list prices, services, etc through a radial menu command.
Covert Detector Module: The covert detector module would allow a droid to detect and disable a covert detector in an area.
Exploding Module: This combat ability would consume a droid in a fixed damage blast.
Can we put six of em in an R3 and watch Theed get a 200 foot crater in it?
I'd like to see one of those! Talk about people wanting to buy droids!
Yes...they've seen it. TH has it (the thread link, anyway). There is come unknown amount of internal discussion on this issue still.

Are the devs looking at it and taking it into consideration?

Please, however, do not think that because "discussion" is happening that anything is imminent. It is very important that we do get behind some kind of proposal that we can all agree upon and revise to as close to perfect as possible. That much IS certain. What I'm sure the Devs don't want is another DH/DC thing to occur. So, we need to make sure that we get the system that will be used nailed down and get consensus behind it.
They don't want us to 'waffle' again, basically.
The short term focus is getting P7 'cleanly' out and then getting down with P8.
I don't have any info on the status of CL10+ droids other than the fact that they would like to add them.
The proposed system/form this will take, and the timetable for it, are not known.

Who said we waffled when? On what again?
We waffled on DH/DC apparently. I'm not sure why the development team needs a unified voice here. I would have thought that they would consider general opinion, factor that into their game structure and balance, and then make a reasoned decision.
Indecision, waffleness, and a supposed "Negative attitude on the forum" should not effect whether the SOE team can/will do their jobs IMHO.
I fear thatgame community doesn't feel very "Invaded" (at least not in a GOOD way). I further fear that they will not feel very "Enhanced" either.
And I can't adjust my attitude toward the positive without more info. Fine, Pub 7 is out, you ought to have had a plan for Pub 8 last week sometime, let's see it! Time's a wastin'!

We waffled, they misunderstood, whatever, it's all a matter of perception and semantics. It's water under the bridge now. The point is that the devs don't want to make any big moves only to have to dump the work they did at the last minute because they can't get a clear read on what we want. And I have to agree with TK. It makes sense that we have to provide something of a united and like minded front to them if we want this profession to be all that it can be. If we're squabbling crafters vs. wannabe droid army generals, the devs will just move onto the professions that have a coherent vision that can be translated into code and put into the game. They're designers and programmers, not social workers and mind readers.

It matters because it wastes their limited resources trying to dig through all the crap on the forums to get to the heart of the matter. Time they spend seperating the wheat from the chafe on these boards could be much better spent on fixing actual problems.

Sorry to divert the message of this thread, but I really need to clear up this revisionist history crap right here and now.
1. 7/03: Holocron said we were getting Certs for droids.
2. 12/03 - 2/04: Current Dev team said we're not getting Certs (read: waffled!).
3. 1/04: Current Dev team tried to apply a lazy, uninspired, insipid cookie cutter copy of CH as the DH professionwhile attempting to justify it at the expense of the DE community.
4. 1/04 - 2/04: DE's (and the vast majority of the entire community) rebelled against the stupid DH idea.
5. 3/04: People are starting to forget who really waffled here...

well...i really think that droids effect ALL players and all aspects of the game...
DEs are really there to craft the droids for other players..i dont really see why they are polling you guys about who candroids...i mean Droid commander would effect all of us...
i think it would be in the DEs best interest to stage a poll with ALL the professions...
have each forum submit a list of the TOP 5 Utility droids/Modules they desire...what uses they really want for droids. Then TK should take that list and tell the devs people want a light module, a looting module, a survey module etc.
Someone also needs to clue the devs in that the disco ball-bot and the spambot are not really utility droids...they are a cop-out, a cheap programming trick for the lazy SOE staff and an insult to the Players.
(i think all the devs are just creature handlers)

I think that this is starting to happen on other profession boards already. I do a lap around the rifleman board and Kwalenga had started a "What kind of droid module would help riflemen?" thread. I ws really happy to see that at least ONE other profession was looking at how droids impact them. I don't think that we have a huge impact on ALL other professions at the moment, but we could touch most of them if enough good utility module ideas are sread around...
