With THs announcement that vehicles are officially moving to MA, and since more than any other elite crafting profession DEs mostly are MAs...guess what that makes us

I know, it really wasn't worth arguing about all that time, was it? heh

Ya, good news in a way. The next three months are going to be completely nuts for DEs. Firstly vehicles, then two months in a row of big droid changes. Should be a rather fun time to be in-game.

Anyone know a decent chiro? My wrists are going to need it after this! I already have about 150 vehicles pre-ordered, two weeks or so before the patch lands.

This is the best news that us more advanced DEs have received in quite some time. Giving vehicles to Master Artisan is as close to giving them to DEs as you can get without actually doing it.

I originally didn't have a problem with them sitting at Engineering IV. Despite my rosy metrics analysis post earlier, I've been running into a LOT (far more than I anticipated) of players grinding to Engineering IV just to make vehicles. With that kind of glut forming, it was looking like vehicles were going to be a less and less profitable venture. This changes everything.

Three cheers for you, devs. You did the right thing, and I'm pretty dang happy with it.

I plan to "camp" Theed on opening day making bikes for 10k and speeders for 15k for as long as I have resources.

Efon posted a suggestion on Test Center about making vehicle schematics more complex that's a really cool idea. Basically, add interdependency components from other elite professions. Light Power Core (Architect) for the engine, Synthetic Cloth (Tailor) for the seats, Advanced Droid Frame Unit (Droid Engineer) for the base frame, Composite Armor Segments (Armorsmith) for the body cladding, etc. That'd make vehicles a really cool cooperative venture instead of a one-person craftable item.

He, you know how long factories take to crank out vehicles?! Yes I will be using them, but the demand is so high I'm going to be hand crafting a lot while the factories are churning. Also, I have a vendor that I'll be stocking and sticking on the planetary map as early as possible that day. Then, come combat droid day, we'll be having fun there too with all the experiementation and combination trying while we craft those droids, line up parts from other professions etc.

After paying a CH 15k last night (negociated down from 20k) for a carrion spat, I am not sure my prices will be this rosy on the first day, particularly for CHs.

There's a difference between mounts and vehicles. A Master CH can make at most 16 mounts in a weeks time, and that's if they choose to forgo using any personal pets. An artisan can craft as many vehicles in that week as he has materials for. Someone who's been hoarding metal for a month could have hundreds of thousands built up. The demand for vehicles will match that of mounts, but supply will be far greater. Prices should stabilize at around 5-10K on the first day.

Vehicles don't need training. And if they do anyone will be able to do it. Some CHs charge 6k+ just to train a mount. Also, it doesn't cost them anything to aquire a mount to sell.

But generally, yes, I agree that Master Artisans will charge more reaonable prices.

Why sell so cheap at 10-15k? The demand for vehicles should push the price up much more. Charge more for a droid than a landspeeder? I don't know - I think I will be try to charge a lot more than 10-15k and see what the market bears - and no, I'm not trying to screw over people, but rather just see what people will pay for something that will get them around planets pretty fast...

One thing I know for sure is that I'll be giving them for free to the small handful of players who helped me get started as a newbie. Once those debts are paid I'll worry about what to charge everyone else , but 3*N where N is the number of resources required to craft the thing is probably a good starting point.

You'll be undercut very quickly Mr_Moo. You can probably get a few sold for astronomical prices, but the relatively small number of master artisans will be offset by the number that they can crank out. I'm certain that there are some master artisans sitting on a dozen factories and hundreds of thousandsof resources just waiting for the servers to come up after the rollout. They'll jump on those schematics like a hungry dog on a steak and make a hundred vehicles within a couple hours. Do you really think the price will stay high very long?

As I said, the demand hasn't changed since the mount rollout. There are the same number of people wanting vehicles that also wanted mounts. The supply will be far greater than that of mounts. Economics at its simplest is supply and demand, and that's what we'll see here.

I love giving droids to friends. Vehicles will be no different in that regard.
