Thread: Making Money as a New DE

Howdy DE's,

I'll try not to make this a "Hi! I'm new" thread, as I do have a few questions.

I'm a new Droid Engineer (currently 0-0-0-2) and a fairly new member of the SWG community (started playing in December). Figured I should go ahead and introduce myself to the DE board since I intend to stick with DE indefinitely and lurk this board quite a bit.

Anyway, getting to the point. Being only 0002 DE and Master Artisan, I'm having a hard time making money besides hunting enraged rancors with some powerfulfriends (and they're not always around). This makes it difficult funding my harvesters and other costs of working towards Master DE.

(I've read several DE guides, but none of them really address making money.)

I was hoping to get someideason how to use my current skills to get some sort of income (preferably selling droids).

Thanks folks.

I hate to say it, but the way I was able to make money while I was grinding up to DE was setting up two Floral harvesters, have them mine the highest concentration of whatever, and sell it at the Coronet bazaar. So for lots, I had a house, two floral harvesters, two mineral harvesters mining steel, a solar/wind power generator, and a chemical harvester getting fibreplast. That kept my head above water until I was a master DE.

Well, that's depressing. Another fine sign of the problems with DE. Ah, well. I'll manage.

I think I may be selling excess resources for a while.

There's not a lot of money in DE at all right now, even at master.

You might try (only oneof which really uses your DE skills):

  • Making powerups and selling them on the vendor

  • Selling off your extra power and resources

  • Making Master Artisan stuff and selling to DE's

  • Running mad delivery missions waiting for your harvesters to pull upmore resources

  • Making BH seekers and arakyd probes and selling them

Good luck... And get used to not having a lot of money, I've made almost every penny I have off of resource sales, although I do have somewhat steady (I use that term loosely) droid sales, it's not near enough for me to pay the maintenance on all my harvesters, factories, etc.

One way i was able to make some money as novice DE was to make crates of droid storage compartments. Currently they still use artisan experimentation and the Architects need them. Get yourself an equipment factory and find some high OQ metal and make crates of them up. I sell them on my vendor as fast as I put them there for 5k per crate.

I think this is a good plan.

Per unit of effort, being a good miner (ie. knowing what to harvest and moving to harvest it) is probably still the most profitable profession in the game,

Even with only ten lots, 250k or better a day is not hard (assmes your a willing to be homeless )

Seeker Droids and excess resources. That is about the only way to make cash just starting out. Droid Storage compartments / Vehicle Coloring Kits should be a decent seller once they go live.

Well, thankfully my Master Architect friend has provided me with several extractors. It's just a matter of maintaining them...

Should I just harvest my usual grind resources (steel and fiberplast) and sell the leftovers or focus specifically on a high-demand resource (high-quality steel, I suppose)?

Aside from that, Droid Storage Compartments, Seeker droids, and the new vehicle customization kits ought to be sufficient.

Thanks for the help. It's appreciated!

I have to agree with others. The way to make money early on is to sell excess resources, and, if you can get the BH's on your galaxy aware of your vendor, to sell the BH doids.

Even now, at 4/3/1/4, I still make about 25% of my profits from selling excess resources on the Coronet Bazaar. Everytime I pass through there I drop of my excess resources for sale.

I've also discovered that once you've got a shop set up, you need to advertise. It's also helpful to be a member of a city that has some good organization, and a "mall" area where you can place your vendor amongst other well stocked vendors. That way you can leverage each other's advertising efforts and share customers.

And the way to advertise, in my opinion, is to give a droid a name that advertises the location of your shop (or mall) and set it on patrol in a major starport.

I've seen droids that say "Tell-playername-for-droids" as their name, but that requires you to actually be on and to hold the customers hand to make the sale. Far better, in my opinion, is to be in a mall area in a city and have a droid whose name is: "Shops-in-cityname-planetname". That way all vendors in the city mall area are advertised in one shot and you don't have to directly talk with the customer to make the sale. the other good thing about being in a mall and having a droid that advertises the mall location is that you can give advertising droids that advertise the mall's location to every player who has a vendor in the mall, and can thereby have advertising going on simultaneously on multiple different planets at once.

Good advertising is a 3K auction (not instant sale) on the Bazaar. Good for 7 days. Pay the premium for 100 credits and put your shop info in the description. Kinda an exploit because nobody can win. To be fair, you can put a good droidup for 2890 or something.. if your a fair kinda person.

Put one each in the big three(Theed, Bestine, Coronet) if you want to go crazy.

This is one of those 'free checkers' things because it takes no skill points.
