Thread: Combat Modules and Probots...

On a sidenote, I was informed that everyone might want to start stocking up on Probot Deeds and Chassis now, in preparations for Publish 7. The resource cost inadvertantly will have to go up, because of the way the slots are alloted and how the combat modules are made. I'm hoping that I will be able to elaborate on this comment, but it will more than likely be another month before I can do so.
Same as above
Granted, some of my concern was that they may actually fix experimentation, but under the circumstances, I am not big time enough yet that I can toss some schems in the oven in the hopes that they might be useful, only to find them outdated.
Hell, since I started my shop up (and since put it on hiatus) I've all but refused to do any Probots, because I thought we might be seeing somthing substantial that would outmode them, and didn't want to sell a junker to a customer.
We'll see.

Well if the cost goes up to build them, why don't you lobby to get the Micro Sensor Suite removed from the schematic? They are already rediculously complicated to build for the result. They nerfed our power without ever compensating us for the resource cost or the subcomponents, and now they are going to cost us more?
If functionality does not change, then they should cost us less to build, not more.
Radical suggestion, but can I suggest we flat out don't make any of the new combat crap they are throwing at us until they actually fix our profession and make the droids we have do what they are supposed to do, which is assist beings in day to day life?
I am not now nor will I ever make any droid outside of the probot for combat applications simply because this "droid invasion" is the biggest crock to come down the pipeline yet.
I can't call this request a strike, because we would first have to be paid for what we do and be a union, but what they are doing to us is horrendous. It may be the biggest bone the Dev's have ever thrown the DE profession, but it is still JUST A BONE. The underlying problems with the DE profession are being ignored and nothing is being done to make droids popular.
How many Level 10 droids do you guys think you're going to sell? If people aren't using level 10 pets, you can almost guarantee they won't use droids either. Oh, I'm sure we'll all see an initial influx of sales, but when people see that our new combat droids are no better than our old ones, those sales will drop back to the levels they are at now. We aren't getting anything new.
Sure, we'll be able to make droids of a higher CL, but who is going to use them? Us? Probably not, as that argument is water under the bridge, and the DE community decided that DE's are "pure" crafters, not a hybrid combat type class. And if another profession is created to use high CL combat droids, the majority of the people transitioning into that new profession will be the DE's who initially thought that DE's should be a combat hybrid. Those people who wanted "pet" abilities are already CH's, so the actual number of people who will be buying these droids will be few.
No, this entire "Droid Invasion" thing is the DE communities fault as a whole, and unfortunately I get the feeling that it has eliminated any chance of our profession actually getting fixed. Ultimately, I see no change for our profession along this path and can only hope that the DE community comes together against this "invasion" and gets the Dev's to go in the direction of "utility over combat".

Hiya Drashk,
One quick question. Am I reading this quote (my emphasis added) too literally?:
" . . . everyone might want to start stocking up on Probot Deeds and Chassis . . ."
Gribnitz, I really think you are wrong. The reasoning behind people not using CL10 pets may have a slight something to do with camps and calling, but if you listen to the combat monkeys the real reason is that they can't be bothered with anything that will die in one hit. Add to that the fact that CL10 pets don't do much damage AND a lot of creatures/NPC's ignore pets and attack the owner and you will see that there simply isn't a market for "new" combat droids. The probot is a CL10 droid. It is the best we will ever get. Oh, we may have some variations that do more damage but have less armor, but it will always balance to CL10.
As only Droid Handlers will be able to use the high end droids, and most DH's will be the DE's who wanted the ability to make AND use combat droids, there is next to no market there. As I said before, most people who wanted high level tanks are CH's, and why would anyone want to pay for a CL60 droid when they can go out and be a CH and get a free CL60 pet?

Does that mean that their function will remain unchanged?

Do you think the HAM and combat power of probot deeds will be "grandfathered" into the new droid system? Or would the Devs only grandfather "tamed" probots and allow the deeds to get the new probot HAM and combat abilities?

I wasn't aware we could do anything with a finished deed. Is this some impending change in game mechanics?
I too am hestitant to stock up on any droid components long-term, for fear they will turn into junk.
Nerf the micro sensor suite! A nerf that nobody can disagree with. ![]()
