Thread: Poll Combat or Utility
I belive this can be done fairly easy and within a 3-6 month time frame.
Put combat droid discussion/development in a separate lower priority timeline since looking from the discussions thus far, we won't get a resolution to this anytime soon.
I wanted utilities at first, but a Droid Invasion has already been announced and planned for. I also can't understand how you cannot have combat droids and be a Star Wars game; also, this would go well with the GCW updates. Utilities can come after the destuction of the second Death Star, during a time for rebuilding.
The current poll standings appear to be
67 for Utility Droid Content First
33 for Combat Droid Content First
>>>Utility. It should have always been about utility. The droids we have should be made to work in a manner that makes them worthwhile to have. Combat droids should not be our focus, and should have never been the focus.
In the time period this game is based in, the use of droids in combat is nearly non-existant. Ep 1 and 2 had plenty, but that is not now. Now, combat droids just aren't seen.
If the droids we have would modify the skills and abilities of professions, we would be the most popular crafters for a great time to come. Roses would be thrown at our feet and mana would fall from the sky. Combat droids are going to do absolutely nothing for us.
Why? Because, unless a droid handler profession is introduced, or certs are added in the DE tree, combat droids will still suck just as bad as the probot to keep them at a CL10 or lower level. If a DH is added, then only a limited group of people will be purchasing our wares. If a cert system to the DE tree is added, we will be making our droids ourselves and not selling crap. We aren't making any progress with combat droids being our focus. The focus should have always been fixing what we already have, but the vocal majority screwed that up when they started whining about "droideka, droideka, droideka". We have no one to blame but our own community when the dust settles and everything is still the same.
Our current droids must do something that makes them attractive to the masses. Droids that eliminate critical failure during crafting, or make repairs more successful, droids that increase slicing percentages, droids that help track for Rangers and BH's, these are the things our droids should be doing.
But because the community wanted bang-bangs, we all get screwed. Ah well, it makes it easier for me to drop the profession and go to Tailor like the holo said....<<<<
Gray, you have echoed my sentiments EXACTLY. I could care less about combat droids...I want crafter that work, repair droids that repair...droids that make the player base life EASIER. There are so many different module ideas that I have seen put out on this forum to choose from and the list is endless.

I would also like to say that current functions need to work properly and have a useful purpose in the game. If that happenes we will have no need for combat droids.
To be honest I am puzzled why all this combat droid stuff came about.
I think players just were tired of seeing animals being used by anyone and wanted droid instead, I wouldnt mind seeing some more combat droids to choose from but didnt expect them to go overboard with trying for a DH class.
I also woulda happy if they gave droids just more purpose other than portable crafting stations, like using a BLL to carry a good sized inventory from 1 place to another, or surgical droid to actually do some healing, or 3po to do tranlating.
Why the devs think that bringing in combat droids was the answer is beyond me, I would like a variety to them but that was 1 issue out of several.
So my answer is Utility even tho I would like to see some variety to probots, just not as a end all solution to DE problems.

Three Comments
1). If the devs are working on one already, I am pretty sure we don't want them to retool to another.
2). I don't see why we would not want more utility droid frames as well.
3). I think it is easier to balance combat droids if the module additions/fixes are in place.
