I agree as well. I was SO excited about getting into DE and finally got Engineering Level 4 - rushed over and noticed 28k... I had 500.

I did not get Master Artisan because I wanted to get into DE quickly, but if I can't make anything worthwhile to get me points except for weapons and armor, I am never going to make it.

I have played as much as I possibly could since Thurs... Friday (with the exception of going to work) and this is the first time I have been dissappointed.

Don't get me wrong though... I want the DE profession to be hard. Really hard. It will keep me playing if not a lot of people are DE's, but as I was reading some other posts, I realized this profession doesn't have much use to the world around us.

Sure, I want to make a combat droid, but I would like to make all kinds of others as well.

If I knew, for example, that the droid makers would also be the vehicle makers when that is available, then it would be a big boost to keep going.

Also, I am pretty much useless in combat since I spent so much on my mind and action. I need a bodyguard droid (or two) to protect my MON hide...

Running out to my harvesters is a chore to dodge red dots.

Plus, building the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over gets pretty old, especially for 28000 xp.

What makes the mouse droids useless is that we can't make any modules that are marketable. At novice you can make data storage.....doesn't work, Item storage......tends to delete items put in it, and medical modules..... they seem to do something but we need to make 232 to get the next box. What is the fun in making 232 droids of questionable value. I've started trying to sell mine as cute little pets rather than a useful droid. "look at the little droid, isn't cute, and it makes those cute little beeping noises."

So for those that were in the beta, what was the idea by the developers, for their purpose in the world? I can't believe they would put all this detail in and then drop off and make droids completely worthless but make the skill so hard to attain. It makes me think they have/had a greater vision. Anyone know what it was or what it might be?

I think we are all in the droid field because we want to make useful droids, but I have yet to see the purpose in it.

While I will sign my name to this because I feel that this class needs some major improvement, I feel that the exp for this class is at the right pace compared to all the other classes. Take a look at some of the exp required to advance to reach bounty hunter or commando. They are just as high if not way higher and they do not have the ability to construct factories that will give them exp even when they are logged off. Just because at novice droid we have to crunch out a gazillion of those crappy little mouse droids that don't seem to do jack, doesn't mean we need more xp or a lower limit on the xp needed to advance. If they did that then everyone would be a DE and the market would be flooded with all kinds of droids and there would be no need for a specialized class.

However, the DE class does need some serious improvement especially in functionality of droids. Droids are a huge part of the SW universe and mostly take the roll of helpers and assistants to those that are their "masters". Hell they even serve drinks on sail barges (aka ROTJ)... In SWG, droids are mostly just toys at the earlier stages and have the ability to become crafting stations...well whoopity f'ing doo. Crafting stations are a joke in my opinion. When in the course of the game are you going to be out in the field fighting and you suddenly stop and say...OH WAIT A MINUTE I WANNA MAKE A MORE POWERFUL CDEF GUN!!! Most people that have enough sense would check their equipment before they leave, or if they really want to craft a nice item they will just take the two minutes it takes to walk over to a crafting station to do it. Why spend all the time and money to invest in a droid when you can already do something for free.

Make droids more useful to not only the ones that make them but to others that could benefit from them as well. As it stands now, the only real class that benefits from droids is the medic class because they can /tendwound outside of the medical clinics. For everyone else they are a novelty and not much use at all. I know some of you will say, "well wait till you get the Probot...its so UBER!!!", which is all fine and dandy. I will love getting and using a probot, however, i did not become a DE to solely make combat droids. While combat droids need soem serious work (good lord the DZ70 is the crappiest thing i have ever seen...why make something that can attack when all anything has to do is hit it once and it goes away, either fix the aggro in the game so it acts like a "flaming sword of xuzl" for those of you who are EQ players...or give it a way to have a shield or something...yet, i digress)...
As I was saying, the reason I chose to be a DE was to make cool droids that do cool things. Make them able to maintain harvesters or buildings so that the upkeep in them is cheaper or they can repair them if damaged...make them able to repair items rapidly and fix vehicles (yeah right, like we will see those before 2006.) Have them add to your attack ability or crafting experimentation stats, or allow them to benefit some of the classes such as entertainers by giving them bonuses if they have a droid equipped with a "entertaining" module of some sort. Have the droids able to interact with the environment a little more (we all know how adept R2D2 was at opening locked doors. I think I could go on and on but you get the idea.

Fix some of the current issues please such as not being able to store data in the droids (which is a really cool idea once you start filling up your datapad with experimental schematics) and the ability to store items in your droid and not lose them if you log or go LD. And for crying out loud make the earlier combat droids actually worth the time and effort they take to make.

These are just a few suggestions I figured i Might add...they have probably all been said before but now that i have voiced my opinion I will step off my soap box.

Thank you.

it seems to me that an archetict can build 4 homes and gain a lvl, and it takes us a lot fo time and effort just to make one lvl.

I totally agree with everyone on this message board. I'm working on my 28,000XP needed to get to DE, which is expected, but it should be a drag the entire trip up the DE ladder.....Make it hard but acheiveable. If a causal gamer wanted to be a DE, he'd probably reach Jedi before...lol
