Thread: Fostering better DE communication or Why this DE forum needs a memory wipe...

TH is doing a good job. Keep in mind, he isn't a developer. He doesn't code anything or make anything. He is just the liason between us and the devs. They can tell him 'Yeah, we're doing this and that tomorrow', and he tells us, then the devs change their mind, and suddenly all the forums are up in arms against TH. It's a clever system really by Sony, to distract us as to where/who the real problems come from. =)

But it is disturbing the lack of attention DE's receive. It's almost like a snowball effect. They start (rightly so) with combat professions, as that's what most people are. Even DE's take some fight stuff sometimes. EVERYONE fights. Even a guy with no combat prof skills, he can still engage in combat, and does engage in combat. The combat HAS to be air-tight. The more they fix, the more people try it out and the more bugs they find. I'm sure once they do finally get to the DE's and do stuff, we will witness an influx of DE's to the game. This influx will help find even more flaws/bugs in the system which require longer than scheduled maintenance and attention, exactly what's happening to the other professions. Any programmer can understand this. "Well, let me fix this class over here then I am gonna work on this other thing. Ok, fixed that class, but, now that broke this other thing, hang on lemme fix that real quick... oops, now this class won't work... etc... etc..."

We will have our day in the sun. We will bask in the glory of our shiny metallic companions. We will enjoy the fruits of our labors. We will then get nerfed back to the stone age and the whole cycle repeats. HUOH! =)

I just sent a message to JustG, asking what sort of boundaries we can expect in our requests for DE changes, and what to expect. It looks like TH is putting together a post. This is the reply I got from JustG, which is super cool. I did not expect to get a reply within like 5 minutes, but I did. See??? There is reason to stay positive.

Re: Droid development question (non-aggro!)

Thx MA... TH is putting together his first post for later today... and it will be followed by at least two more, on our development efforts with regards to your profession.

stay tuned...

LOL, I feel sorry for TH. He is the mouthpiece to the player community and he tries to respond and gets lambasted on each attempt. The guy is in a no win situation. I've done my share of ranting, but I understand how the Dev's don't want to walk into a powderkeg rarely post.

The DSC's have changed because it now based off of the DE resource primary stats, which are OverallQuality AND Conductivity. Master Artisans only need to be concerned with Overall Quality for just about everything they make, which made it quite easy to make the super high rated DSC's. Now that it is where it should be, under the DE experimentation line, it is going to be harder to find those super resources to get the higher rating.

May as well face it, if experimentation starts to actually play a role with our droids and piece parts, we are going to have to find those super OQ and Conductivity resources. If this is the price we have to pay to actually get experimentation into the mix for Droid Engineers, so be it !!! Bring it on ! We have lived forever without experimentation and I look forward to actually seeing my points do something to the finished product.

Architects, this change may effect you now because there are no good copper spawns, but the resources are always shifting. My suggestion would be to look out for high OQ and Conductivity copper and mine the hell out of it. Polysteel Copper seems to be good when it spawns. When you get some, ask the DE community to make you up a bunch of the DSC's. Coming here and griping about a change that may actuallybenefitDE'soverall on the rest of our items is not going to change matters. DE's are OQ and Conductivity users......find some good stuff and hoard it.

Well, the olive branch needs to go in both directions.

Its quite clear from the language TH used (despite later saying otherwise) that he's just as fed up with DE's. I dont suppose I can blame him after the last round, but its not helping, and whats more his voice is a lot heavier than any of our voices.

This change was due to a Droid Engineer request.

(Pleaseput posts like thisIn Live)

I didn't have time to finish my thoughts on this one, because of a meeting I had to go to (I despise days filled with meetings!).

This was my response, and after reading THs posts here in the DE forum to be 100% accurate:

I know you said to put this in live, but your comment was made here.

The response that DEs got towards this change that it had to do with fixing experimentation on DSCs so that DEs can experiment on them using DE exp points, not MA points. There was nothing to do with a DE request directly. Kinda makes it sound like the DEs wanted this change. We weren't aware of it, and personally I'm not supporting or thrashing it, just the point is we didn't have a say in it, it was just done.

Yes...I'd agree with this. That's part of the reason why I hope that DE board goers will heed the call for a collective memory wipe.

We need only realize that the time for negativity may have been before...but it's not NOW.

The situation IS different than it EVER has been (since the start of beta 3) for DEs.

That difference does call on us to step up and revive the once positive and idea-filled place that was the DE board.

Coming from you TK (with all due and sincererespect), whatever is coming down the pipe must be super -mega -eclitpto - gargantasaurus great.

For the record, I am trying my darndest to be positive...

Virtanis,

Thanks for keeping your chin up. In that regard, I might suggest picking your favorite pet DE idea or cool new feature and flesh it out. Do some thinking on how it could/would go. That's the fun stuff we used to do around here.

In addition, I am not stating that anything in the upcoming updates is stellar. It won't be the end-all, be-all release that we'd all like to see. We need to realize that we sometimes ask the Devs to perform the development equivalent of going to the moon when it's more realistic for them to get us to, like, Cleveland.

No matter what comes, stay positive and try to add positively to the discussion and debate on what's put forth. That really IS the way to get the powers-that-be to respond.

(But...rememeber, we can't yell and whine that we aren't going to the moon yet.)

TK -

I was going to follow you lead in being constructive. I was really trying hard.

But then I saw TH's post, and the locked thread.

Sorry, this isn't communication. This is how I managed the university servers when I was an admin there - the clients were like cattle to be handled.

If they want our respect, they have to give us some.

I am still willing to follow your new paradigm, TK, but it has to be a two way street.

The one seminal thing that would stuff a nice sock in my cake-hole is a repair pack for the droid white bar. I can't say much more than that and it's a pretty straightforward request.

Put in the droid repair pack usable by all players = shut Virtanis up for a while cause he'll be really happy.

That is the forum that I miss. Many people have noted that I haven't been posting as much and the negativity is one aspect of why I haven't been around. It is good to see a few people taking in a deep breath and stepping away from the aggitated state that they have been in. That state was even starting to effect me, the perpetual optimist.

The DEVs really are trying hard to do the best that they can for the DE community. Having a negative environment to work in does not help to promote the positive changes that the DE community would like to see in the not so distant future. Keeping a postitive attitude on this forum will only help out the community and the DEVs iron out better lines of communitcation. I for one am glad that you, TK, have taken a major step towards trying promote a more positive environment.

Thanks TK.

OK, I kinda posted in anger in the last half hour.

I'll just say this.

To be constructive, we need more than "you were wrong", "you asked for it", and "what do you want" posts.

This is an incredibly creative group we have here as DE's. But when treated as children, we will act as irate adults... well, like children, I guess.

I am guilty of this. But seeing TH's post about how the DSC change was the extent of what we asked for for making experimentation count... that is just adding salt to the wounds.

By asking for Dev posts, I want something that doesn't assign blame to DE's for probs - I want to know the limits of the utility mods we can ask for. I want to know what the combat mods really mean. Give us information so that we can give the devs the feedback that they really do need. And they do need it - I don't think there is a dev DE, and I doubt that many devs own those nice R2's with the transparrent tops.

It is really up to the devs here. Treat us as adults, they will see the constructive responses they want.

Ugh, please don't say you're sure we'll see something in the morning. I've got faith in you guys but if something comes up or something goes wrong and it gets delayed, all it starts is more conspiracy theories and bitching. Tell us you hope it will be ready in the morning, or it might be, but not I'm sure...
