Thread: Top 5ish Droid Engineer Issues

Ok folks, there've been a lot of interesting suggestions for new design options and modules. But there's also been a lot of crap. I have to admit that I'm rather new to SWG, but I decided to become DE and of course I'm interested in getting more diverse droids.
But please retain some common sense! I agree with surveying, hopper collecting and demolition/building modules and the likes.
But a targeting module for marksmen? What's so droidy about that one? That should at best be a tool (that might be craftable by DEs) but it certainly isn't sensible as a droid module.
Keep in mind what a droid is all about: independently doing more or less boring and repetitive tasks or to assist in difficult tasks like surgery.
I do agree to combat capable droids but why one should build droids that enhance combat skills of the user is incomprehensible to me. It sounds like total over-kill and powergaming/skillmaxing to me.
Oh and by the way: someone mentioned modules to enable a dancer/musician to perform outside the cantina. Well, they can perform but you don't get benefits - and a module that allows you to heal outside would seriously unbalance the game. So don't expect it to be done any time.

Yep you're so new you shouldn't be posting yet on the boards... There are already modules that allow you to heal anyplace you want, for instance. Go play the game for a bit more then come back...........

In order to make the DE profession useful it needs to become a quasi essential part of the game. To this end here are my suggestions:
1) Luke Skywalker bought droids because the old one broke could not be fixed and wore out. Not because of combat, but because of time. Non combat droids should be like vehicles, in that each time you take them out they degrade, batteries can slow the degradation, but not stop it, and eventually they die. Then you need to go back and buy another one.
2) Droids need to serve more essential/useful functions. These could include:
a) Resource mine maintnenance, as in droids can be loaded with credits and power and go keep your miners filled.
b) Resource Locators, they could be assigned to go across planets and report a general idea of whats there. As in lok as dolovite iron, phrik aluminum, duralloy steel, etc....
c) Slicing of boxes and doors, R2D2 did this way more often then Solo. Allow the droid to open boxes and doors.
d) Base shutdowns. Again droids could be equiped to participate in base shutdowns.
e) Training. Luke learned the light saber from a droid. Have training droids so we dont have so many kook campers.
f) Gambling Droids. Hey let me open a casino with slot machine droids!!!!!
g) Item Repair Droids. Let them fix my guns armor and stuff.
h) Vehicle repair, How many times has R2 fixed a vehicle? A lot.
3) Combat. Ok this is star wars, One of the most feared BH in the galaxy is a droid. If we need to have a Droid Commander make it. But give the game more fearsome droids. This is not He-Man I am so tired of seeing battle cat running all over the planet.
Anywho, this is my 2 credits worth, Sure this has all been said before. But the most important issue is to have droids decay, with no ability to fully repair.
Cheers
Except for your first point, I couldn't agree more. However, the devs have heard these same ideas, other ideas, and variations of these and other ideas, ALL of which are MUCH BETTER then any ideas they could ever dream of having on their own. They are just not smart enough to implement them.
If George Lucas (in his youth when he made "A New Hope") got wind of this b.s., he'd fire every one of these bozos.
Hmm... I would really like to know where your "repeat customers" will come from...
I can see it now... "Where are all of my droid customers... I built the best I could... sold them to everyone that I met... I never have any complaints of failure, because I KNOW that my droids will NEVER wear out and need replacement... Where in Hell IS everyone?"
Note... Everything in real life deteriorates... including us... unless you happen to be a God.

I didn't say droids shouldn't "wear out". I just meant that I didn't agree with the approach described in that first point. For that matter, I don't like the way vehicles wear out either. It's not well thought out. Currently, the way vehicles wear out is a compromise, and feels like a slapped-togethergame contrivance.
So, the point I'm making is that I do agree with the spirt of the point, just not the letter. The point of mymessage wasn't to debate that issue...it was to draw attention to the lack of talent and/or effort of the development team to implement those kinds of things. Ironically, your response made me think about the details of item #1 above, which intern shows another example of the poor excuse for a development team SWG currently has -- the way vehciles wereimplemented illustrates a clear lack ofimagination or skill bythese half-baked "developers". Pathetic, really, when you put this in context with the overall picture: Vehciles (landspeeders, starships, etc...), Droids, and Jedi are what make up a "Star Wars Experience", yet these things are the most disappointing things in Star Wars Galaxies. Whata farse.

Sorry if I wasn't exact enough. Of course, I know of medical modules that allow you to heal anywhere (except inside cantinas if I remember correctly). I was just referring to modules that allow you to heal mind wounds/battle fatigue as well. _I_ think such a module could have a serious impact.
Less arrogance and more considerate reading might be useful...
