Thread: Poll Do you want to be a crafter or a combat class?
I would say a Hybrid.
I don't see why a combat class with no knowledge of how a droid works could be able to use a more advanced droid then the person that knows the ins and out of their creation.
CRAFTER
I don't want a combat droid that only I can use. As a Master Droid Engineer I have no combat skills at all. I don't want to fight I want to make Droids, repair, modifyand sell them. If you make a combat droid that only a DE can use then it is worthless.
A cert system that will give everyone the chance to control even the most powerful droids is what we need. But it should give perks to each proffesion. For instance DE's should be the only ones to use a repair mod. Medics and doctors the only ones who can use the medical mod. Smuglers the only ones who can use slicing mods.
Combat classes should get a bonus to the damage their droids can do with any type of weapon they are skilled with. Except for melee weapons unless they can be added to a droid. Melee combat classes should get a defensive bonus on their droids. This way everyone can use the droids but get a perk depending on what class they are.
DE's should be the only ones who can use multiple droids. Being able to call 2 when all level 4 boxes are filled and 3 at master.
By giving a perk to each class when using there droids will make them less likely to dabble in DE.
Why is making this ridiculous choice necessary? Is there a law that says mechants can't defend themselves?
Being hard wired into non-combat is foolish, the last time my DE died I was going to a harvester, and I am reasonably good with a weapon.
Should I have to hire a bodyguard just to go get my harvesters maintained?
droid useage is an additional feature the game is not replaced by this feature.
if u dont want it dont use it.
adding new combat droids and giving des some abilitys to use more than one droid and a slightly better droid will just improve every aspect of the game.
ch get something to compare against
des get more things to sell and more customers
des get more abilitys not only combat also in the use of all droids
thegame gets more starwarsy and more fun
...
why so many people dont want this? a game cant constist of just crafting should they remove chat, enemys, players, textures ... and just let in some clickwork?
the changes are not featuresforcing everyone to just use them, they are free contend.
but it looks like they already skipped the changes, no de changes thread showing up instead updatepoint 2 (droid invasion) was replacedand is now according to update thread 2 vendor and basar improvment.
great work! des will stay forever as they are yet...
DE's should have the option of going either way on there choice, it should not be restricted to just one type of style. If this threatens someones happiness i am sorry but this is my view. There are many actual examples in the books and movies of people with high technical skills and production abilities that where great fighters and pilots, Case in Point lets look at Lando for a moment shall we, espcialy the newest series of books the vong hunter droids are a primary example of for this game a MDE/MSmug. Also just for the whole crafter/fighter arguement lets look at ol darth aka anakin in the new movies built C3PO etc. The ability for us to craft and USE what we craft should be allowed. There is no reason stated any where that says we can not. Game Balance people have cried it is balanced there where combat droids and highly effective modles as well as assasin models (IG88 anyone). Well that's a matter of perspective honestly, if you don't want to use or go into combat and are a happy crafter thats great kudo's for you. I enjoy crafting and fighting myself heck when i first wanted into the game i worked out the skill points for a Smuggler/MDE.
So my vote would have to be Both.
Crafter
It's all about Choice. The Devs created this skill system with a limited number of points so that you would have to choose your character's path. Each character isn't just defined by their equipment, as in EQ, but by the choices they make in the various skill trees.
It's been said over and over that to be DE you "MUST" be an MA, and also take some Merchant. Some have even said you "MUST" have at least Novice Scout. While all of these choices definitely make playing a crafter-DE alot easier, none of them are required skills. This is all in the choice of how you want to play the game. If you truly value the ability to take part in combat then you must weigh that against the conveniences of MA/Merchant/Scout and decide what it is you want to do.
I'm not against a DE using a combat Droid. I don't make my stand from some pacifistic viewpoint. I simply state clearly that DE is a crafting profession, and should be treated no differently then any of the other crafting professions. Any combat Droid that we can use should be useable by any of the other classes. I understand the logic of "we build them we should know how to use them", but this is one instance where game mechanics/game balance go against the logic of the situation. We should get no extra perks over any other crafting class, regardless of what we make.
You have trouble reaching your harvesters? I would suggest three courses of action for you, it's your choice.
1. Stop putting your harvesters in areas that spawn creatures you can't handle;
2. Hire someone to escort you to your harvesters or;
3. Drop some of your other skills and choose to climb higher in a particular combat profession.
crafter,
increase the functionality and give purpose to our profession, more combat droids only means probots will be nerfed
DE = Crafter
My 2 cents...
The cert. system using the number of novice and master boxes taken works.
The Droid Certification system using a license... interesting... Here is what i propose...
This would make DE like a BE and then a 4 box treecalled "Droid Certification"this would compress the CH tree into 1 column...
Each box would take 1 point to achieve so most classes with that 1 or 2 points left over would not go to waste! see thoughts in3rd to lastparagraph.
Each box would be based on Droid combat exp just like creature combat exp...
The only difference between a DE and a non-DE, DE's get upto a 50% bonus to earning droid combat exp... Meaning we can hunt with our droids and gain certifications faster because we have intimate knowledge about the machines we are controlling.
The other option i see is DE unlocks the Droid Certification Tree or unlocks a portion of it... still requireing DEs to engage in combat to unlock the highest levels and still requireing skill points!
Everyone should be limited to 1 droid, except Novice DE gets 1 combat droid and 1 non-combat droid. Also, box3 in the"Droid Certification" tree should allow the same ability for everyone. "Droid Certification" box 4 should allow 2 (box 3 or lower) droids to be called. This would allow a Novice DE with "Droid Certification" box 4to call 1 non-combat droid and 2 box 3 combat droids. Non-DEs only get 2 combat droids.
I envision the "Droid Certification" Tree to be listed as a starter profession and cost 100 credits to train first skill.
Level 4 - 20000 cr. - xp to unlock 100000
Level3 - 10000 cr. - xp to unlock 10000
Level 2 - 1000 cr. - xp to unlock 1000
Level 1 - 100 cr. - xp to unlock 0
I see level 1 and 2 droids used by everyone... keeping costs negligible... really only the cost of the droids... it also allows new players to immediately start using combat droids as soon as they can afford one! Now costs go up for level 3 and 4 droids... the xp to unlock the droids might even need a 5x multiplier... 500k, 50k, and 5k. The only other change i see to this system would be to make the skill boxes cost 2,3,4, and 5 skill points from the 1,1,1, and 1 system i am proposing... 4 vs. 14 points you decide how much of a sacrafice using droids should cost...
This proposed system adds minimal complexity and provides a FAIR way to use combat droids. The only question which remains is what bonus a DE should get... and should these bonuses only be given to Master DEs or to Novice... or only on the top box of a column... If you give a bonus to novice you envite dabblers, if you only give to Masters you alienate those working now but reward those existing DEs...
One final note people that have earned MCH should NOT be nurfed too much when using droids... I am thinking for each level droid that is called temporally remove 2.5 points from the creature control level. NOT max lvl of creatures... This would mean a lvl 4 droid would mean only a lvl 50 pet could be out not a lvl 60. The max lvl of creatures would still be 70 so you could still call a lvl 50 and a lvl 20 and a lvl4 droid and you could still call a lvl 51 pet and a level 3 droid! But you could not call a lvl 51 pet and level 4 droid... There will need to be checks when a droid or pet is called to make sure you do voilate this rule! (e.gif you have a lvl 51+ pet out you can't call a lvl 4 droid.)
I'll go out on a limb and vote Hybrid.
Only because I would be soooo cheesed if I could make a bad mammer jammer droid and not use it. I need protection getting to and from my harrvestors out here on Lok....
Neither- I craft them for many people... but its a stupid idea that I couldnt use a droid I built if I want to use it.
That does not make DE a combat profession... if it did... we are probably all combat profession people because of the weapons skills we had to pick up to protect ourselves while gathering resources
Make & Use....
