Thread: Request to DEs who don't want to use our high end combat droids.
Ok, these are my thoughts from a total non-DE perspective ... so I have no idea if this is already discussed
I see DEs as Engineers ... hence I can't see why they should be entitled to uber droids, and everybody else shouldn't get this starwarsy part of SWG that has been missing for such a long time.
I would like to see that combat droids for the average player are more powerful than non-CH pets, because that's the only way to get more droids in the game (IMO). Also, I think in SW it's easier to control mighty droids than any creature ... those Trade Federation guys didn't seem to bright to be (and weren't DEs for sure
) but had a vast droid army behind them. I would also propose to give certain professions the skills to "wield" multiple droids.
... But ... I also see, that DEs "know" their droids, so I would propose to give DEs a skill that enables them to insert a "Tweaked Droid Batterie" into a droid while in combat, powering their stats up to a level that let's them compete with a lot of mid to high lvl CH-pets for a short amount of time. Where to put this skill would have to be discussed ... put it into MDE and a lot of DEs are still "left out" ... put it into a specialisation and it's easy to be acquired by anyone just wanting the uber droid.
This would preserve the DEs a wide customer basis, and still give those DEs who want it a realistic and IMO starwarsy advantage using droids.
Take this under consideration Progman...
I don't think many people disagree that we need to be able to make and usebetter combat droids.
HOWEVER, we need to be able to sell those droids to others AS WELL AS us them ourselves. Then the profession has the choice of what we want to do. Regardless, we need better things to sell before the devs turn us into CHs. There are already 20 combat professions. If you want combat, diversify into one of those (you have enough skill points to do both). There is ONLY ONE profession that can make and sell droids. Turning this one profession into the same thing that there are already 20 of should not be an option. Considering how prevalent droids were in the movies, those droids should not be limited to only DEs.
My preference would be to implement a good combat droid that non-DEs could use ONLY ONE of, and that we would be able to call 2 to 3 of at a time.
We get double/triple combat droid power AND things to sell. So you get what you want (an advantage in combat), we get what we want (better things to sell). Doesn't that make perfect sense?

Dakar, you refuse to actually read what I type don't you ?
Ditto.
As I have said, we are probably not going to get several new combat droids. We are probably going to get ONLY the droideka because that is the only one that is already in the game. So if you keep pushing to make that one DE-only, we will still have nothing to sell.
Even assuming, arguendo, that we do get several new combat droids the one they give to DEs will be the coolest. The coolest droid is the one that would sell the best. We NEED diversity of droids to sell not just to use.
Don't you agree that the perfect solution to this problem would be to add a good combat droid that we can sell ONE of to others (they are limited to that), that wears out (so we can resell it to others), and that we can have 2-3 called at a time of?
This is all I want. I just want to sell good droids. I have no objections to us having a little combat advantage (as in 2 to 3 times the amount of droid fighting power through multiple droids). I just think that ALL droids should be available for ALL to enjoy.
What you keep saying is that we should get to wield ONE powerful DE-ONLY droid. What I am saying is that I want to be able to sell that droid, so make it a little weaker but let us use a bunch of them. The result to you is the same, but those of us who actually want to craft get something to sell. Understand?
Isn't having 2 versions of a droideka much more a pain in the butt for devs to implement than simply letting DEs have 2?
Dev don't have time to do too much. I think the simplest answer is best. Certifications are complicated. Giving everyone the exact same droids and giving DEs a +1 to droid count is easy.
It's silly to assume what's too hard or to easy for the Dev's to do....to date they haven't done squat. So saying it would be to hard for them to make this, or do that, is just hedging your boring, class destroying wanna be crafter only bet.
They are asking us what we want so instead of thinking "Well, hmmm... I don't think they will make more than one combat droid". How about we say , "We want more than one combat droid, one to sell to the masses and one to use and make us feel great about being the special long suffering people we are."
Until they change the fact that to be involved in the "Story" you have to be involved in combat, until they implement something that makes being crafter completely exciting without needing some other profession to keep your interest, until that time comes I am on the side of the "Combat DE's"
Thosewho have such little skill in DE, and a majority of skill in combat professions should hardly be talking about making the class completely crafter when it's obvious they found no interest in being a 100% crafter in the first place.
Make us less dependent on learning other skills, make our crafting process less mundane and frustrating, give us the ability to be involved in a meaningful way in the rest of the "Story" then maybe you can talk about being 100% crafter.
So once you "fix" DE and make them more combat-able what do you propose for the other crafting professions? How do you make Architects more combat oriented, or armorsmiths? How in heavens can you improve on Chef? People need to understand the difference between combat class and crafter class and make their choices accordingly. If you want to fight, pick up some combat skills. If you want to craft go for it. Want to do both? You have to make sacrifices.
Let's face it, just how many Power Droids do you sell? Is it honestly enough that you need to keep Archiect skills just to make those "expensive" power cores? And what's wrong with passing that extra expense to your customers? For all the issues we've had with the way CH has been handled I just find it surprising that anyone would want something similiar to happen to us.
Let's say they do implement some form of DE-only Combat Droid. Let's say it Rock! It's the coolest thing in the Galaxy. Guess how many Master DE's there will be in a week or two after that change goes in? Won't be quite as special anymore, will it?
Stick wit hthe crafting. If you want powerful pets that only you can use go the CH route. If you want to make and sell Droids then stick with Droid Engineer. Stop trying to morph the two classes into one big mess.

I disagree, we could have semi-powerful combat droids for all, its just a matter of balance. Theres a number of things you could do. 1. Make them expensive. 2. Make them require regular maintance (batteries, oil bath, etc). 3. Make them die, maybe after 3 deaths, they die for good. Maintence would also give DEs a good passive income. Note thatall these ideasaremoney/time sinks too *insert tick*

Theres no way that a single class is going to get a uber droid, without the masses flooding into that class, look at ch, commando, look at the unbalance there.
With your concern over elite classes and mission being too easy, perhaps the payout could be decreased if a combat droid was used during the mission. Maybe those extra funds go straight back into droid maintence.

Seems to me that when a droid is badly enough damaged, badly enough to incapacitate it, there should be SOME effect on the droid, preferably a loss of some function until it is repaired by a qualified engineer. There should also be SOME chance that the thing will be turned into scrap, I suppose, although this raises the spectre of 'droid permadeath'... I guess you could not CALL it permadeath, but leave the droid in a state where it's as or more cost-effective to just get a new one, rather than haul the heap of scrap back to someone's shop.

I think some of the DEs out there are very confused about what a engineer is. If the profession doesnt have enough combat in it for you, then go spend some points on a combat profession - simple.
OK...seen this line enough about what an "Engineer" is
I spent 10 years in the navy...
I imagine the ENGINEERS on the ships on which I serve might question whether engineer can be a combat profession or not. For those who do not know on a Nuclear Aircraft carrier the Reactor Officer (an engineer) is third in command after the Captain and first officer. On a nuclear submarine the captain must be a prior nuclear officer and a prior chief ENGINEER on a sub.
So, was someone saying something about engineer not being a combat class ?
