The topic of combat droids seems to be a heated one. What I would like to know, are combat droids really needed? Is this something that is taken directly from the movies, or just something the Devs and players think is "cool" and "133t"?
It deeply disturbs me the amount of non-Star Wars content already floating around in the game, do we need to add more? Noone in the movies ever had a droid sidekick that fought with him. Sure, there were the droid armies of the trade federation, but they were crap AND were autonomous, they didn't have a "master" barking orders at them and fighting beside them. Then there were the destroyers who could give a Jedi Knight a challenge. Again, no master beside them.
Combat droids sound fun and all, but I don't feel it follows Star Wars idealogy too well. It fits in the category of the flame thrower, neat and fun, but really just not Star Wars. Droids, yes very Star Warsy, having "pet" combat droids, not Star Warsy.
Also, try to think of the impact combat droids will have on CH's. If you go with a DH profession, you basically just create a carbon copy of an existing guild, essentially adding nothing new to the game. If you went to some generic system where everyone can use em, it will unbalance the CH profession horribly. Why go CH when I can just whip out my uber combat droid that everyone can have? I know most DE's could care less about the CH's, but if one part of the game is screwed up or unbalanced, it does affect you.
But the main point I feel, is that using combat droids on a personal level just doesn't fit in well with theme of the game. Not one person in the movies uses a companion droid to fight for them. They took a big chance making a game with Star Wars name on it. Obvious benefits were received, an already established fanatalic/psychotic/obsessive fanbase, 100's of years worth of backdrop history, character bios, basically they got an entire universe for free, already laid out for them. The drawback is that they lost their ability to just "do what they want" or "what they think is cool". They are (should be anyway) bound by that pre-existing content. I think they dropped the ball on alot of things: flamethrowers (jango used one, but was built into his armor, wasnt a standalone weapon), ubese armor (we see 1 set in the movie), composit armour (we see 0 sets in the movie), wookies as a player character (we see 1 in the movies). In Return of the Jedi, they lead you to believe a thermal detonator is equivalent of a mini-nuclear bomb. In our world, they can barely kill womp rats. Our world is filled with things that do not exist in the movies, or at best are excruciatingly rare. I understand to bend a little for playability, but don't bend too much. That's the price you pay for using the name "Star Wars" on your game.

lets see..... you have 2065 posts at the moment...
So, 800/2065=~38%.
So, that means the other 62% (The majority) IS idle chatter

OK, so I pulled a number out of thin air...
My point was that I really do try to be positive, and have added plenty of posts for new modules, the cert system, etc. A lot of my posts are also ansers to droid questions, reporting things found in game, bug lists, and game guides.
However, there are posts like this waste of keystrokes
and also pleas / rants to get the devs to give us something substantial in the way of communication that really don't add anything constructive in terms of ideas for the game.

TH buddy... pal.
If you've read any of my posts you know I'm not one of your biggest fans...
Honestly in this instence, i don't think you ment to offend anyone. (*GASP*)
BUT, here's my beef with you... can you ever say your sorry?
Is it really so hard to say... Hey guys, It looks like I offended some people. Sorry. Then go one to explain yourself?
I don't think i've EVER ready something like that come from you, and you've offend quite a few people in your time here.... you know who they are.
All you got to do, is say, Sorry, and i beat THAT will put a positive spin on things faster than Justifing yourself and locking the thread.

You know, I really did not want to start a revolution with this problem. But what are players to do when fundamental changes to their crafting take place? What recourse, if any, is there but to ask the question why?
For those that think this invalid all together due to the cabal of mysticism the devs continue to make us live under with crafting stations, all I can do is point out that IF tomorrow your ability to make droid crafting stations was cut in half I'm sure you would have a problem too. Even without concrete answers from our developers perception is almost 100% of the market, whether for sales or posterity.
On top of that someone brought forth the contention that literally everything I make as an architect in the station market never disappears. They don't decay, get hurt in combat, or get destroy except through gross neglience of the house they are residing within. The only way to sell a crafting station, nominally, is to make one better than what existed before.
Both sides (Architects, DE's, and TH) have valid points. Reasonable people can all admit that things are hard to perfectly articulate in type, especially on the fly.
I really honestly appreciateTH's response, and his willingness toget directly tothe point. The sting of losing 5 months of planning to make my own competing stations doesn't seem so bad anymore when I realize that it makes sense "why" this happened. I still disagree with the decision, and offer up that as long as the development community continues to take away from players vice add to the game it is they that are setting this tone, TH. Not you, or us. Maybe you consider this negative but I for one, do not. Truth is truth.

Wow...after reading through this crap (don't ask me why), I'd say there are quite a few Droid Engineers giving the profession a bad name. Seriously. I have no pity for the whiney beyotches on this thread. What...are you the only players who have problems with their profession? Wrong...go check out the other forums. Gonna go take your ball home because the development team didn't call you and ask you exactly how you wanted your profession to work? Grow up. If you get mad at me reading this, then youknow I'm talking to you.
To those of you DEs that manage to act like adults on the forum, my sincere condolences for having to have these kind of posts misrepresent you.
