Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: Lets hear your responses to the devs post.
Battle droids from the movie (A low-end droid made by low-end crafters. So Low level crafters have something to make and sell. Easy to make, low ham (500?), uses a built-in or (if the system permittes it) a player provided blaster for modesty damage. Think of these as fairly disposable, but help with damage output. Akin to a damage buff or potion in other games)
Droideka (A high end battle droid made by high-end DEs. with better stats than the battle doid.)
Maybe few of the assassin droids others mentioned here.
How about droids that can do some supervised mining?
It would be awesome (maybe technically difficult) if droids could pay upkeep and power on harvesters.
Really a lot of peoplelove the battle droids (It is the skinny head) and think that it would make the game more "star-warsy."
Other posters have some good points. Which is more likely in the star wars universe: Someone with a trained attack pet, or someone with a droid?
Along the mission programming lines, droids should have a list of other people who have access to their storage areas, and who have access to use their other functions, (if there are any).
Also, to fascilitate cross-country travel, could we make the hovering droids immune to small animal attacks. (How could they hit the droids when they're floating above the animals' heads?)
Also, this is a BIG ONE: Droids should be repairable -- not PERMANENTLY dead, when killed. As long as there is permadeath, droids will never be used to their full potential.
I have 2 boxes left until master why waste the skill points at this time?
-^^most of the droids mentioned, usefull and effektive ones first, special droids later when the devs have time for that. better combat droids so we can earn money by selling them, also the best Droid of any type should only be usable by DE´s
-ability for DE´s to controll multiple droids at a time (also more droids to store in datapet for DE´s "like CH´s")
-shildgenerators for droids
-droids acting as turrets
-remote control device only useable by DE´s
-new functions like transporting stuff via remot controll, maintaining buildings usw. (droids should be able to carry energie and money to a building or also work on the building which lowers the maintaincosts) they should be able to search for an resourc location of an stated % and send u cords when they found a location, they can also begin harvesting but not as fast as players and with les storage room for ressources.
- ofcourse bug fixes and stuff.
^^most important additions i can think of, but there are many more to come someday.
How about a Protocol Droid that can act like a database management system. It can hold 150 units of data that can be created by it's user. Maybe each entry is 1/4 of a data unit or 1/8 of a unit. This will allow merchants to track what and who they have sold to in the game.
How about a droid that has the ability to record a conversation. It's hard to be a spy when you show up on the radar as a shiney blue dot. A droid would only show as white and thusly be ignored.
Harvester droid to manage the mines, harvesters and power generators out there. He can haul some items, not a lot but some back to the Vendor in an owners shop and put them there for sale later.
Just a few ideas I had kicking around in my head. Oh and BTW, permadeath is still out there, I just lost my Advanced Probot to a mob, I tried desperately to store him but he kept fighting to the bitter end.

Ok.. I'm a new droid engineer.. and pretty new to the forum so this might've already been suggested but here go my suggestions gathered from my experiences and what I read.
Basically.. droids lack one big thing.. to be able to be programmed. From what I gather you can get them to drag stuff around for you.. follow you as a pet (though a crappy one compared to the CH one''s).. store data for you.. and that's it.
Why not make droids programmeable.. even simple things like mentioned before in the thread.
Survey droids.. very useful.. and not that big a deal.
Foraging droids.. once again useful and fun.
Power transfering droids.. dedicated to transfering power from your power generators to your mines.
Escort droids.. to keep your power transfer/survey/forage droids alive.
Basically droids should be able to do most of the "trivial" stuff of classes (surveying.. foraging.. harvesting from the stuff you killed.. basic medic'ing.. play some music but less good than an entertainer..) in that way making the droid engineer a bit of a "jack of all trades" with their droids.. but definitely not as good as the classes themselves.
And then there's lots of simple tasks droids could do.. (power transfering, hopper-emptying, passing items to friends/customers.. basically all the simple tasks that artisans have to do now).
This all could be achieved by giving bots the ability to memorise 4 waypoints (thereby having an area for the surveying and a few waypoints for the other stuff).. be able to perform certain tasks at the waypoints.. or be able to recognise the things in between as an area to work on.. and be able to work with items.. the simple things.. empty hoppers.. fill up power.
The key to it all.. make bots more programmeable as they should be.. and make them work while you're off-line.
