Thread: Answers for the list of Droid Engineer Questions.
Wow. Thanks TH for the long post. I look forward to the developments coming up. Especially though I appreciate the fact that you and our Droid Dev have acutally listened to and read the posts here. This does indeed support us with plans to fix many of our bugs first, while still implementing new droids too. There is always hope. I'm sure there will be alot of discussion about this at the meeting tomorrow on Ahazi Server.
Uh... barb-wire? Maybe you should look at what dependencies we are talking about before saying something as ludicrious as that. When we say dependencies we mean dependencies from Master Artisan. Currently, if a DE is not a Master Artisan, they really arent that self sufficient and it takes up a whole lot of skill points we could use to get some combat skills to defend ourselves. Theres nothing like build a probot, and then getting owned by a durni. Master Artisan components are required to make your BH droids. Being less dependant on Master Artisan, and having those components as part of a DE profession would make life easier for us and allow DE's the option of persuing another profession without fear of having to run from tiny critters most people would kill in one shot. Do your homework first before jumping to conclusions. Of course this IS something I'd expect from a CH...
(Feeling toasty?)

We agree. In the not too distant future, either all dependencies are going up or your dependencies are going down. Its way too early to talk about which way that’s going to go at this point in time…
Also note that TH said they might go down, not that they would be removed.
I just wrote a whole reply to this only to have the boards eat it when I hit preview. /cry
To sum it up:
A) I feel for you droid engineers out there. I'm with you all the way. Never met a rude DE...but I've met plenty of really, really rude CHs. This has turned into Pet Wars and it's very sad. Every DE I've ever spoken to has taken the time to be very informative and answer all my questions. There are only two creature handlers I can say the same thing about. Most of them are far too busy being uber to actually be nice to anyone, and I resent that...especially when pets as a fighting class in Star Wars is just about one step removed from totally ridiculous. Jabba might have had a rancor...but he sure as hell couldn't control it, now could he?
B) I love droids, though I know very little about them. I love the droids I have, and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I finally got my very first R2 structural droid only to discover that it was bugged and won't work at all.
C) It would be SO NICE if droid customization didn't immediately fade away the very first time you called the droid. It would be even nicer if I didnt have to reprogram the droid's commands EVERY TIME I call it from my datapad. And I mean any droid...I have several. What's up with that? Come on now. And while we're at it, it'd be great if I didnt have to stop every 20 meters to tell my probot droid (or any of my droids) to follow...or I didnt have to scream at it over and over and over and over again just to get it to attack something. I dont feel that expecting these things to work right is asking too much, and I have a lot of sympathy for DEs and what they have to go through.
D) I wish you folks the best of luck in getting your issues sorted out, and I'm very glad to see that they're being addressed (at least in theory).
E) The good part: I am a master artisan (and master architect). Any DE who comes to my shop and shows me her or his credentials as a DE (flash your tag at me, baby!) will get a 10% discount on any artisan component you require in your profession. I try to keep my prices low already...but you folks definitely deserve a break. I didnt realize until today how much you relied on artisan made components for your droid crafting, and so I want to do my part to help you out, since the DEs I've met have been so very kind to me.
I'm located on the Bria server, and my shop is on Naboo, just outside Moenia. Send a tell or email to Perilous in the game and let me know what you need. I have a factory, and I can make special factory runs for you as well. And if you bring me all the resources I need, I'll buy them for 2.5cpu, and put that purchase price against the cost of the components you want to order.
I sell to Imps and Rebs alike (for now), but if you're an Imp, some sage advice: be covert when you come into Moenia or wander around the area. It's a Reb town, and it's gonna stay that way. At least on Bria!
Doing my part to make the Galaxy a nicer place...
Good luck to you folks!
I agree... I think different droids should have completely different functions (except maybe family types like R3,R3,R5). The one thing that bugs me is that droids are not unique... they can all do the same thing.... oh well, guess we'll see what happens - in like two months.

I'm one of those that think that Master DE's should be allowed to control higher level combat droids... or multiple lower level ones. Not in the same class as CH's, but more in line with what a MBE could afford by dabbling in CH.
I see it as the only way we'll actually get higher level combat droids without unbalancing some other class, short of an extensive balancing act spreading different cert levels across all professions.
ummm, you mean the R3?

I don't know why everyone goes, great but... every time the dev's post good news. rather then pissin and moanin accept what you get and try to make due with it. you threatening to leave won't make a difference. oh no you leaving bring the total down from 250,000 to 249,999 accounts. it is the end of the world. Get over it. if you don't have constructive criticism about it, just don't say anything at all.
You really should pay more attention before flaming, it looks pretty stupid in light of the 2 post rebuttal I posted to the Combat thread night before last, and the reasoning I gave a while ago as to why a good portion of what he's said here is a massive mistake on the Devs part.
It's really very, very, simple. Probots are useless. They will be useless after the patch as well. When everything in the game is hitting for hundreds of points of damage, their pathetically low HAM will *NEVER* allow them to be usefull. And they can't change that, because if they do, everyone in their composite will be immortal.
If you haven't figured out by now that the Devs are just taking shots in the dark, without any kind of real plan, to see what it does to the game, then what can I say? But, the truth is, Droids will remain useless even after this plan, and the metrics of CH of the remaining players is going to shoot up to the 75%-90% level.
Because who wants/needs droids that fall down in 4 hits when they can go up CH and get a real personal tank?

Hehe, that's an R3. ![]()
And since we have your attention with the BLL situation, I think the BLL/Protocol thing needs a little bit of clarification.
BLL, BLL Adv, and Protocol Droids do not have ANY module sockets. This means they can literally do NOTHING - the BLL ("Binary Load Lifter") can't even be used to schlep around items. The Protocol Adv has two module slots, but the regular one has zero.
This makes two droids that are utterly useless - the BLL can be used as a sign, but since we can't name talking droids anymore the Protocol can not even do that.
So, basicly - they don't even work as well as a mouse droid - which at least has one slot.
This is a really easy fix - just add a couple of module slots to them.
Thank you,

Did TH just ask a DE if he seen a clear doom droid? ROFL
Hey TH drink more coffee..lol
TH, regarding the combat droid issue....
This is just my opinion, but I think it might work best if DE's can make combat droids that anyone can use, as well as combat droids that only a DE can use (to keep Droidekas from being in everyone's hands, for instance). That way people will be able to have battle droids themselves, but the "elite" droids will be a Master Droid Engineer perk and will also keep them to a minimum (to keep from overbalancing combat with these droids).
Now there's still the issue, how do you keep combat droids out of newbie hands so their combat isn't screwed? Well, there's been a lot of ideas about a Cert system.....we want to allow anyone to use a combat droid (since more than just combat professions make use of them, IE crafters who need a bodyguard while running to get their harvesters), but we want to keep the less-skilled players from using the top-end attack droids. Examples of such a cert system would be......if you get any elite Novice skill, you can use the medium-level droids. If you get the second box of any line in any elite profession, you use the upper-end combat droids. Something like that.
In this system, DEs would have a market for Combat Droids, any profession would get to use them, they'd be kept out of newbie hands, and the most powerful combat droids wouldn't be uncomfortably common in the world as they'd only be usable by a Master DE.
clear dome = R3 but everyone has posted about that already.
unless this is something new, maybe on test center anyone? im not a DE on test center.
