Thread: Daker's Droid Mini-Tree Proposal

If we are talking workability and ease of implementation....you guys are missing a major problem with Sodan's plan...
There are already thousands of DEs acrocc the servers.
The problem: How do you convert the DE profession to the hybrid with new prerequisites when people already have the skill?
Do you take all DE skills away from everyone and make them reearn them? (Devs will never do this)
Do you grandfather every DE in and let them keep their skills forever? (Devs will never do this, because it gives you too much power--additional combat droids--for no additional skill point cost--you don't have to learn the prerequisites)
Do you make it so that DEs can only keep their skills until they drop some, and the ones they drop can't be relearned until they learn the prerequisites? (This is a programming nightmare)
If we are supporting a plan that is "easy to implement" how does a plan that changes the prerequisites for a profession that thousands of players already have fit that bill?
I think that' all you needed to say, Runesabre. What I read in the full, original post was "This isn't going to happen".

If that's the case, it's cool that you let us know so that we can focus on a different proposal that might meet the 'requirement' you put forth above.
Thanks for keeping an eye on the DE boards, by the way. There's a lot of good 'signal' happening in here right now via proposals and plans and such (on how >CL10 combat droids should best be done for the game).
I think we have a good handle on the criteria needed to fit the Dev Team's needs and I'm sure we'll continue to try to tweak these into the best outcome (with your expert assistance and guidance, of course).

Additionally, according to the devs, all professions will be substantially fixed in the combat balance (patch 8), so there should be no reservations from Rune-Sabre after that. Additionally, almost all DEs have succumbed to the fact that we are getting bug fixes and utility droids in the next 2 patches. If we had to wait a little longer (as publish 9)for this proposal to be implemented, isit that much different from what we are already going to get?
All combat professions, not all professions. There are many professions that need substantial help that will not be addressed in the Combat Balance changes and will have future publishes devoted to enhancing those professions. I also want to re-iterate that it is my goal to ensure that new professions need to have a distinctly new play-style, purpose, and aesthetic when they are added to the game. I don't simply want to add a new profession that is merely a derivative or copy of an existing class in terms of play-style, purpose and aesthetic. Simply having the time to do a new profession does notconstitute reason enough to do a new profession unless it meets all of these goals (existing professions are addressed and the new profession is unqiue in terms of play-style, purpose and aesthetic).

Following this and your posts on Sodan's thread where you kindly noted that you had not understood fully what was being proposed, will you please now finally stop being devisive and sign up on the other thread. Already you have managed to attract negative Dev attention to this thread, and this does none of us any good at all. I admit to not being hopeful on your reply...but just maybe you can see that this is just not going to run, and can see your way clear to supporting the other idea.
Please..if not for yourself then for the community.
Can't you think of the community first please.
Runesabre, good to hear from you, I'd also like to urge you to check the other proposal that has been gathering support on these boards.
As Javac said above the main discussion is in this thread:

With a cleaned up version of the proposal here:

I have talked with Woody, and have reluctantly decided that if this plan is the ONLY way we are going to get combat droids, that I would have to support it no matter how much I hated it.

That's by far my biggest problem with the other proposal - it forces people to be Droid Engineers in order to use droids that anyone should be able to use.
The plan we were going to get would have forced them to DH/DC anyway, so that point is moot.
I think the important thing is that Runesabre has hopefully seen both posts, and they can see the current direction that we are thinking.
Knowing the direction we're headed with our proposal gives them a basis from which to work, whereby they might post their own version of the DE-hybrid plan (that takes from what we've put forth but has 'Dev balance' included).
It's all good...

Very nice, Daker.
I prefer this type of solution over the other one currently being discussed because, to me, it is more elegant and easier to balance. I suspect that it is too powerful as you proposed it, but that should be easy to fix.
The extra droid for Master Droid Engineers is a nice touch. I presume that ifan MDE wants to call 3 Combat Droids, though, that they'll have to be levels 12, 12, and 11? (I'm just confirming, I'm pretty sure that's what you meant.)
I particularly like the mini-profession's ability to allow ANYONE to use higher level combat droids without becoming Droid Engineers. That's by far my biggest problem with the other proposal - it forces people to be Droid Engineers in order to use droids that anyone should be able to use.
And this would be the same Kollos who said:
"I'm sure you'll all be thrilled to hear that I am about to start a new job and probably won't have time for SWG anymore, or at best I will only have a small amount of time. So since I won't be able to play much, if at all, it wouldn't be right for me to campaign one way or another.
Ahh well, can't keep a good Wookiee down eh ![]()
Dont bother telling me that if you were actually campaigning you would be more forthright lol, I know.....all the above said in mild jest.

I'm sure we'd all like to know exactly what's happening with droid HAM/Armor in patch 7 as well.
