Also--

I've read the basic guide about using droids/computers in space and I'm wondering if there is anything that's more practical for the consumer/pilot.

The descriptions of the droid programs are not very clear to me. "Increase weapon performance", does that mean increase damage? And so on. Perhaps some very simple real-world examples of how a pilot would use certain droid commands, in what kind of ship, under what circumstances?

I'm also not clear on the way droid commands can change the "power" usage of a weapon. How does this matter, since by the time I'm using the droid command I'm already up in space with the components I picked out on the ground to fit my mass and reactor limitations.

For example:

I've been outfitting my TIE Bomber and I found that things were very tight on the reactor. I have a reactor that gives 13k power. If I wanted to use my two best blasters and my two best missiles, that would require 14k power.

So is this what I would do? Go ahead and equip my two best blasters and my two best missiles, then Launch into space and run the droid command to lower weapon power usage? So that now instead of 14k power my total power usage might be under 13k?

I'd been assuming that droid commands would be a temporary boost, like the Booster--for example, boosting your speed or your weapon damage temporarily. Is this completely mistaken?

I want to use flight computer and droid commands in my ship but I am very confused.

Maybe I can help. The Droid programs are not temporary, once you activate them, they will stay on until you change them. Even if you Hyperspace. Although sometimes they do act funky when you mix them with things like Reactor or ENgine Overload, sometimes those turn them off.

The Weapons increase one makes your weapons hit harder, yet at the same time really really chews into how fast your capacitor energy gets chewed up. That is what they mean by power usage.

As to your TIE Bomber question and reactor power. While I have not tested it and may be wrong, I don't think it works the way you want. I think the Weapons tuning option just decreases the amount of capacitor drain. Again I could be wrong, but I don't think it affects energy usage.

Im having some serious problems, perhaps someone here can help me out.

I recently traded some Imperial Overload commands with a Rebel DE for some Rebel shield programs and a v4 Flight Computer(Im at 3333, so am certified for one). I have installed Engine Overload 3, Weapon Overload 3, Shield Adjustment Front Moderate, Shield Adjustment Rear Moderate and the three normalisation commands, taking up 63 out of 110 storage.

Im using a Level 1 looted Droid Interface with a 14.4 command speed, mainly because its pre-patch and very, very light on mass and energy consumption(Im flying a TIE Interceptor).

I installed the Droid Interface, then placed the commands into the Flight Computer, and finally associated the Flight Computer with my ship under the management menu. The Flight Computer shows "(LOADED)" next to its name, however the text changes from white to red, and while in space no commands at all show up under the Astromech section of the Abilities tab.

I understood that you can use any commands, even if they're not your faction's, so that cant be the problem. The DE who made me the computer also tells me you dont need to use a Droid Interface that's the same level as the Flight Computer, so it cant be that either. Unless Im bugged, the only possible explanation is that you have to associate a Flight Computer with a ship BEFORE you install any programs in it, is that the case?

Im finding it difficult to get the needed XP for tier 4 quickly enough in my TIE-Int, so was hoping the commands would make it easier, so any quick help would be much appreciated.

If you do shield adjust front and shield adjust rear do you wind up where you started?

UPDATE about component decay after using overload programs

If your overload programs are not damaging your components for more that 10 armor points, you will not have any decay for repairing it

But don't forget to repair before you launch a program again.

If you repair near the station where you launched the programs : they will not be reseted to defaults
If you travel after you launched one or more programs and get repairs : all programs and systems will be reseted to defaults

To sum up : launch all your programs, get repairs (at a station where you can have 100% repairs) THEN travel to another system.
Any repair after you travelled via hyperspace will reset your systems to defaults
