Thread: Moving On To Combat Droid Certifications -- Who Gets To Use Combat Droids?

Ill explain why i feel certs should be used...

Weapons like pistols blasters are leagal firearms in the SW universe.

Certain Bountyhunter weapons and lightsabers are illegal to own and are only used by those few who feel that can get away with it.

All droids that can currently be made (excluding the probot) are leagal to own.

In the SW universe after the droid invasion of naboo and the clone war all combat droids where banned (hense why you dont see them in the next few films bar IG-88 who has his own mind). So really the only logical people who can have these battledroids are those who can make them.

I haven't started DE yet, and I don't ever recall owning a droid..but...

I am assuming that combat droids take damage..
Surely if this damage was made permanent, with DE being the only class that could repair it then droids could be for everyone.

DE would gain by being able to repair people's favourite droids, and by being able to use ours much more effectively in combat because we can repair them as they get damaged.

This method also makes sense from a SW point of view - who would know how to fix their droid if they weren't a DE?

I support this suggestion

I like what I am reading for the suggestion, I really don't want to see people having to become droid engineers to use the cool droids.....

Um... how many strong creatures and a Master Creature Handler Use? I think a Master DE should be able to use the Same Number. So 2 if it's 2 and 3 if its 3 ect.......

Sorry I dont see the need for certs. DE's are to Battledroids what BE's are to pets. Do BE's get extra pet handling abilities, no they dont.

Droids are commodities, that means you can buy what you want. If some droids are illegal, they dont need certs, instead the Stormtroopers etc will attack/confiscate them.

I dont see the need for certificates, if you give the fighters more certs then they best fighters become more uber. If you give the crafters more certs, then the fighters will cry nerf, and ask whats the point of grinding the fighter trees.

What stops every one having an AT-ST? - Imperial Faction Points, not certs, or any other half baked idea. Money should be the only thing that restricts what droids you can use. Otherwise whats the certificate actually doing? is it based on weapon types? I.E - Flamers weapons require Commando skills etc.

I'm more keen that any weapons on the droids shouldbe created by weaponsmiths etc, than certs.

Again I ask..why Certs?

PLEASE explain to me why certs are needed? I want to learn, really I do!

So far I believe everyone can and should have a droid...I see no reason to change this except some people being ..selfish?

If everyone can own droids, then everyone will equip themselves with the best droid available in the game because players want the best for their characters. This will not effect PvP, but it will effect PvE.

Most of the money in the game, and all of the drops, come from creatures/npc’s and creature/npc missions. Therefore if everyone gets an uber droid then the PvE combat suddenly becomes far easier. Important things like holocrons and Krayt missions become far too simple, there is too much money in the game, and players shoot up the skill trees much too fast.

The only way to correct this would be to make PvE combat far more difficult. That is not good solution because it would force everyone else to use an uber droid whether they wanted to or not. Every single combat would include a droid. They would become an essential feature of combat as opposed to an accessory.

Basically PvE combat is central to SWG, if it is imbalanced it can screw up the whole game.

Certs are not needed..economics will take care of itself.

Droids should be for everyone (and we should be able to call 2)..thats it.

Droids are not...once and for all...PETS, neither are they guns or swords..they are Droids

I'm not a droid engineer.

I'm a CH/Pistoleer.

DEs should be able to make any droid.

Every character should be able to handle any droid.
DEs, because of their special affinity with droids, should be able to call 2 droids. The rest of us can have one.

Mob levels can be raised so that it's impossible to solo high end content without a high level combat droid (and even then, still impossible).

A group of 5-6 players with 5-6 high level combat droids can take on the Krayt.
10-12 players plus 10-12 high level droids would have a fun time with nightsisters.

Low level players would not be able to afford the 100K+ price for a high end droid, at least until they worked their way up to it.

Combat droids should be a combination of food/spice and weapons. Everyone uses them like food/spice and they slowly decay and can be repaired, but eventually will decay so much they need to be replaced like weapons/armor.

PvP is unaffected. Boths sides have accesibility to the same droids.

-----------------------------
Bring back Holocron - at least he was HONEST.

This new "communication" is ruining the game.

See my earlier post on arguing in game reasons for droid certification. (The real issue is game balance and playability, in game reasons are just window dressing)

But do you guys who oppose droid certification also oppose weapons certification? Do you think any player should be able to go into combat with any weapon they like? Both certification systems would be in place for the same reason, so you can’t support one and oppose the other.

However if you do oppose all certification then we just have to agree to disagree.

Also, wanting droid certification is not selfishness. Quite the opposite. If everyone could use droids, then everyone would buy them and we DE’s would get rich. Supporting certification means we sell less, but it is a sacrifice we know we have to make for the sake of game balance.
