And unless they institute a "Droid Handler" profession, I can't think of a more appropriate one to carry the certs [for high-end combat droids] than the class that designs, builds, and maintains them.

I can: Squad Leader.

Squad Leaders are already a combat class. Squad Leaders are already designed to enhance and control large groups. And for the realists out there, Squad Leader "makes sense" as the Droid Handler class.

It's not narrow by any stretch of the imagination. If you'll just take the time to look at how the game is laid out right now you'll see that what you are asking for is way outside those parameters. Put simply, it boils down to a design philosophy choice made by developers.

The design philosophy is that there is a very distinct separation between the combat and crafting professions. Every combat class does not have an ability to create anything. Every crafting class does not have the ability to use what they create. The one in-between class here is smuggler, although they tend toward the crafting line more than combat.

To see how out of place the DE-only droid of any type (combat or no) is, reverse the argument: We should give Pistoleers the ability to craft their own weapons, since they know how to do combat, they know how to make the most effective weapon for it. See, ridiculous sounding isn't it.

The devs made a design choice to separate the professions into categories, then gave you the option to mix and match categories to your desires. If you want some self-protection doing harvestor runs, pick up a few boxes of marksman. Want to join an advanced hunting party - go all the way to pistoleer/rifleman/TKA etc. If the devs had wanted the crafting classes to also have the ability to use their output, then it would have been in the core game design from the start. Combat types would have been given abilities to repair and build their own weapons, crafters would have been given combat cert bonuses etc. The clear evidence in the game design today that we don't have these is staring you right in the face yet you seem to want to ignore it. If the game had been designed the other way, then yes I'd certainly be championing the DE-only droids, but it's very clear it wasn't, so that's the reason for this stance. Otherwise, if we get something, all the other crafting professions will start screaming for their own unique certifications, and the game goes downhill very, very rapidly from that point.

Me being able to run missions with my comnat droids would not affect you in any way, so why are you trying to force your ideas on me? Let me have my combat droids and you can sit back and craft all day!!!

Then why are you trying to force your ideas on a game design that does not support it? You want to run missions, pick up the skills you need to run them. If they happen to involve combat, pick up combat skills. If they are survey, pick up survey skills. If they're delivery, put on the jogging shoes, buy a mount and off you go. There is no limitation on you. Surely you're doing missions already. Even if you got a DE-only combat droid, why do you need it? Did you make the choice to spend all your skill points on DE/WS/Merchant? If so, bad luck, you chose to focus your character purely on crafting. Yes, you should suck at combat - and suck pretty hard at that too. If you want to have a combat aspect to your character be a combat character and drop some of those skills and pick up combat skills. Nobody is forcing you to do anything in this game. You're given a limited amount of skill points, work out how to use them to do something that you enjoy. If the DE is getting in the way of you enjoying your combat missions and you want to "fix" DE then there is something wrong with you, not with the game design. Ditch the DE skills as it is obviously getting in the road of your game enjoyment, don't force the game to change just because you can't make the sacrifice to be one profession or the other.

I have no fun trying to sell anything, or even explaining the server limits of the droids i sell. I would much rather build some combat droids, then go out and participate in the game!!!

You've answered your own problems here. DE is boring to you. Ditch the skills. The faster the better and it will stop you complaining. Go buy a couple of combat droids from your local DE. That way you can enjoy the game, and we don't have to put up with your whining. There's obviously something wrong here, and it's not the DE profession. Just look at your entire post - it was whining "I hate making droids, but I want combat droids because I want to do combat missions". Ask yourself a question - why are you a DE then?

I just have one question for you, if you don't enjoy selling things, why are you a crafting profession? If there weren't any combat droids then you could free up the skill points you put into it for whatever profession got certed for it or one you enjoy more. As I said, just a question, people seem to be overreacting to some of my posts.

Jenden,

That's the real irony of this situation. People who hate business have chosen a profession which is supposed to make business. That and the same people don'tseem to be considering that business might beeasier once some of the changes go in. I really think the fixes going in should focus on making it easier for droid engineers to sell droids rather than just the combat uses. This perk should be pretty low down the priority chain compared to other issues.

I think this is the second time though someone has complained about not wanting to do business, and I wonder how common this feeling is amongst the people pushing for this.

So far though those people seem to be in the majority, so I guess we'll have to live with their desires.

Not necessarily, and I'd say probably not likely. As long as its not looking like overwelming majority are voting for them chances are the devs won't put them in, since it would be quite a bit of work on their part and they do have an eye towards balance issues, which this creates plenty of. This is no a democratic system, what the people want is taken into account but not always followed.
