As an AS I need MA to make subcomponents for PSGs, 0300 tailor for the 2-3 subcomponents used for in every piece of armor, 3000 merchant at the minimum, every armor requires 1-6 types of organics (some of which are specific, i.e. padded armor, 4 organics, 2 specifics) thus some minimal level scout, and then something to take down the critter and maybe a little bit of offense for when I am bored of being a complete crafter. As an AS I can only make 3 (finished) items without dependency on another profession (ironically, none of these 3 item are even armor.)Your pal,Renea,Message Edited by Cianhydle on 04-07-200503:14 PM
You don't NEED, scout, tailor or even merchant to be an Armorsmith. You could join a guild or post on your server's trade form for what you need or just talk to people and work out some kind of agreement.
If you feel those skills are a must have then you will need to be willing to give up skills in other areas to have them.
Here's the problems with your "don't need" statement:
1. Tracking down someone who can provide what you need is VERY time consuming. It can quickly end up being the only thing you do in-game. Prohibitive unless you have nothing else to do but play SWG all day. But if that's true, how do you manage to pay your account fees? Your mommy or daddy take care of it for you? Not workable for those of us who work for a living and have other real life obligations.
2. By the time you need a resupply of that same item, your previous supply has either switch professions completely or has cancelled account. Hence you have to do the hunt, talk to people, make aggreements each and every frigging time you need something. After about twice, you chunk that route and either find a way to supply yourself or bail out completely.
3. Average lifetime of most guilds out there seems to be just a few months. Hardly something you can depend on for supplying your in-game business.
4. Until they implement a decent consignment system, crafters will continue to be their own merchants. Even then people are gonna do their own merchants rather than hand over a huge investment in time to someone else who just marks the price up and may bail out leaving the crafter stranded.
5. For something like droids, the demand for the end product is too weak to support middle men, parts suppliers, and all the intermediatary markups. In fact, only two lines of business in SWG have any ability to support them and thats weapons and armor. Why, because after the CU those are the only lines of products that people can make more money at then grinding combat missions for cash.
You'd think that after two years of absolute failure to breath life into interdependency, people would get a clue and stop kicking a dead horse. It's stillborn! It's never gonna fly! Bury it and be done with it! Geezh!

Wow first time I seen a post in the DE forums have so much input into it in such a short time.
Anyway I have skimmed and read most of the bits but just wanted to say, I have been a MDE for a year now and have never been a MA in all that time. I am one of the best and well known MDE's on the chimera server (so im told
).
On chimerawe have thenormal guild, auction, planet etc etc chat channels, but we have something called n00bcom. This chat channel is for anyone and every one. So for those people who are on at 3am or 3pm there is usually someone to chat to. The benefit of this is also you get to know other crafters and players a lot more so when I need that so called schematic or vice-versa (Architechs needs etc etc) then its so easy to give a shout for one in this channel. I agree this isnt the ideal world but its a sacrifce I take as I am trying to unlock atm so my normal template is a bit messed up.
At present I am - Master Swordsman, novice med, Master DE, 0004 merchant, 4042 Artisan and 3 branches in the force sensitive quests/unlock.I have enough to get more branches but as you can unlock the branch and get the xp without haveing to put into the boxes i am saving up till i can get all 12 boxes i need to unlock and then I will just drop novice med for a while.
I have found this game is more fun and enjoyable to be able to dabale and have some fun. How many people do you know who solo the geo caves with the above template ? or solo krayts (all be it canyons and juvies, giants can b done if im mind buffed).
The so called "nerfing stick" has already hit me before when vendors got changed to actually having to keep merchant so im sure when the CU hits I will adapt and enjoy the new highs and lows that my template offers. (Well maybe by then I will have unlocked and then can tie one of the chars to becoming just crafting
)

Retractions: I will concede that items #1, 2, and 3 in my last reply is no longer valid due to the Vendor Search feature. It is now possible to track someone down in a reasonable amount of time. You can pretty much count on having to reuse the Vendor Search each time you need something as the turnover in Master Artisans is rapid. They need to go farther with the Vendor Search to make it a more viable solution.
However, I'll let the rest of the items I listed stand.

Nothwithstanding that fact that the recent bazaar changes havent gone down well in Merchant circles (but thats an argument for another board)
